Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

Kiss the Rain - by Billie Myers (strong French exchange trip memories)

Your Woman by White Town (had it on single cassette)

yes to kiss the rain 😂😂😂 reminds me of being on holiday parted from my 13 year old boyfriend
“keep in mind, we’re under the same sky! And the nights as empty as me as for youuuuu!”
FFS 😂

Gene - olympian
Stiktskin- inside
Roachford - cry for me
Bluetones - things change

Stiltskin Inside is one of my faves. I ask Alexa to play it at least once a day.

RJnomore1 · 01/11/2024 20:24

Surely almost all of these are still massively well known and relatively mainstream songs.

Exceot maybe gorkys to be fair.

@springbabydays Amazing! Happy someone else remembers it! They basically played the same 10 songs on repeat for about 5 years! 😂
(Walking in Memphis - Marc Cohn, What is Love - Haddaway, Mr Wendall - Arrested Development etc) There's a playlist on Spotify if you want to reminisce...

I don't have Spotify but I'm willing to join it just for this haha!

This thread is making me wish I was back in my teenage bedroom with my yellow wallpaper and my beautiful silver hifi system with huge speakers 😁 I listened to music so much back then, bloody awesome decade for music, how lucky were we??

Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might be Giants. Saw them in 1990 when it came out and am seeing them again the week after next in Manchester. Everyone I have told about the gig has never heard of them! Shocked.

I loved that song so much

🎶 not to put too fine a point on it. Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet....🎶

Tigresswoods · 01/11/2024 20:26

Best thread ever!!!

I give you Baby Bird & You're Gorgeous.

Also weren't Menswear much hyped then just disappeared?!?

SallyMcBeal · 01/11/2024 20:27

@BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop love your user name! Agree with your post 100%. Damn, I wish your lover was another great tune.

ChilliHeeler1 · 01/11/2024 20:28

@Tigresswoods
I also remember as a 9 year old being baffled why Bad Boys Inc and Worlds Apart were featured CONSTANTLY in smash hits etc despite nobody knowing a single song of theirs

R00tat00tt00t · 01/11/2024 20:28

Very different vibe to my other suggestions but happy hardcore rave was big where I grew up and this one always makes me smile....Bits n Pieces - Artemesia...

I’ve had one in my head for years and I can’t remember the title or artist - it’s infuriating!

I’ve tried searching the lyrics and singing it to friends but no one can remember it.

Do you remember this?

We were put upon this planet
to love and help each other
at least I think that’s the way god planned it
why then hurt your brother?

we come from earth
sister or brother
we come from earth
whatever colour

Get the Google app. You can hum a song into it for it to recognise. It's been successful for me with very obscure ear worms!

Zoflorabore · 01/11/2024 20:30

the song I remember is called “Alane” by Wes. Think it was a one hit wonder. Instantly takes me back to the time when me and my work colleague were applying for Camp America ( applied 1997 went 1998 ) and we were 19 (him) and 20 (me) and I had THE biggest crush on him and everyone knew. We used to put this on in his car and talk about going to America and it was crazy in a country so big we ended up at camps 10 minutes apart in New York State.

a few months after getting home we ended up getting together and I was mad about him, this song just brings me back to that time. He ended up going to uni down south and met a girl and is now married to her, we lost touch about 15 years ago but he’s my one that got away.

sorry for essay!

Sneakybusiness · 01/11/2024 20:30

Does anyone remember Bad Boys Inc? I swear they were more popular than Take That for a while… Why do I feel like walking on air?!

thefemaleJoshLyman · 01/11/2024 20:31

Birdhouse in your soul is one of my favourites. Also love Yes by Mcalmont and Butler. Another one is 7 Seconds by Neneh Cherry and Youssou N'Dour.

Scorchio84 · 01/11/2024 20:31

Electronic Get The Message

Dontcallmescarface · 01/11/2024 20:32

Walkaway by Cast.

BatFaceGiirll · 01/11/2024 20:32

Everyone is naming songs that are extremely well known. Almost like they can't be arsed to read the post properly

Anyway OP, I'll offer up Alice by SOM. Which of course lots will know but perhaps not as many who know 'you're the voice'

SomethingFun · 01/11/2024 20:32

Trouble by Shampoo!

Drinkdrinkduuurink · 01/11/2024 20:33

OverthinkingOlive · 01/11/2024 20:20

I bet nobody remembers or even heard these...

Lullaby - Shawn Mullins
Tuesday Afternoon - Jennifer Grey
Stand By Me - 4 The Cause
Orange - Orange
Freakytime - Point Break
Summer Girls - Lyte Funky Ones

❤️

Lullaby is wonderful. "Hung out with folks like Bob Seger and Sony and Cher"

4 the cause, love the version they do (the young girl from that was molested by R.Kelly)

LFO and Point Break, both yes.

CaveMum · 01/11/2024 20:33

Random ones that have popped into my head:

Ooh La La - The Wiseguys
Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) - The Offspring
Chasing Rainbows - Shed Seven
Temptation Waits - Garbage (because it was on the Buffy Official Soundtrack!)
