Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

Geneva - Into the Blue

Always sing it as the plane takes off.

Rock N Roll Kids - Paul Harrington & Charlie McGettigan. A really beautiful ballad. Winner of 1994 Eurovision but got overshadowed by the success of the interval act...

I love that song, but I always wondered if Ireland was actually trying not to win by putting forward something that was so different - considering they’d won the previous two IIRC.

That was a banger- I had the single, album and went to see them live.

Anyone remember 'Shake your head (let's go to bed)' by Was Not Was?!

I remember this - I think Kim Basinger was in the video?

A lot have been mentioned already, but has anyone mentioned Crazy for You by Let Loose?

Was Six Undergroubd 90s?

The early 90s was brilliant for a diverse selection of music genres being popular. I'm trying to remember songs from the late nineties but it really did get too boybandy at that point.

Six Underground was a song by Sneaker Pimps?

Can't believe Sisters of Mercy have been mentioned - went to see them a few months ago and they great (despite the bad reviews of the previous gigs)

Boom boom boom boom I want you in my room by vengaboys! Remember crying on the nightclub floor to this after a painful breakup.

Se a vida e by the Pet Shop Boys. I recently rediscovered it!

Yes! This is my ultimate cheering up song. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be sad listening to it. As soon as that drum intro hits…. 😃

FraterculaArctica · 06/11/2024 09:21

Has anyone mentioned Jesse - Joshua Kadison yet?

Also loved 74/75 and Runaway Train.

Haven't read the full thread but has anyone done a Spotify playlist for the thread?

Anyone remember 'Shake your head (let's go to bed)' by Was Not Was?!

I remember Mark Radcliffe & Stuart Maconie talking about this song a few years ago & apparently it's pronounced 'Whazz not Was'

I've always hated that song, along with Breakfast At Tiffany's!

Same. Always hated Two Princes, Breakfast At Tiffany's and Birdhouse in Your Soul (which has got a fair bit of nostalgic love on this thread) for the same reason.
Dull as dishwater, so repetitive, shit melody.

gotmyknickersinatwist · 06/11/2024 17:28

Not a minor song by any stretch, and the band is behind one of the most recognisable tv theme songs of all time, especially due to a resurgence in popularity amongst Gen Z, but I have a recent love for The Rembrandts' Just The Way It Is, Baby.
It was a big enough hit but obviously they were known for the Friends theme above all else.

It came back into my head a while back because there's a notification sound on my Windows computer that sounds just like the opening guitar strum of the song. I spent a while going slightly crazy thinking 'WHAT'S THAT SONG?!' before my brain decided to stop torturing me.

Dark Therapy by Echobelly.
Under The Gun by The Sisters of Mercy
Glorious by Andreas Johnson

OMG Dark Therapy - I had the Echobelly album and have forgotten how amazing that song is.

For some reason though, the song 'Jessie' makes my flesh crawl.

Funkyslippers · 06/11/2024 18:26

Voice of the Beehive - Monsters & Angels and I Think I Love You

Snoopey · 07/11/2024 22:40

Ohh - just thought of another one - Morcheeba - The Sea

Haha, I was thinking about Jessie the other day. I actually googled it as there was a rumour it was about SJP. Alas, it is not.

I'm glad The Beloved and M-Beat with Jamiroquai have been mentioned because they're such good songs.

I'm sure these are very well-known but I haven't heard them in a while:

Jane's Addiction-"Been Caught Stealing" (you gotta love the barking dogs)

Crystal Waters-"Gypsy Woman"

Mother Earth-"Apple Green"

Fun Lovin' Criminals-"Scooby Snacks"

Cake-"Never There"

The Black Crows-"Hard to Handle" (Otis Redding Cover)

Electronic-"Getting Away with It"

Natalie Merchant-"Carnival"

Beck-"Loser" and "The New Pollution"

Digible Planets-"Rebirth of Slick"

The Offspring-"Come Out and Play"

Bush-"Everything Zen"
