Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might be Giants. Saw them in 1990 when it came out and am seeing them again the week after next in Manchester. Everyone I have told about the gig has never heard of them! Shocked.

Oh I love this song too! I really wanted to get DS a bluebird nightlight, but haven't been able to find one yet.

I feel like this might be a good thread to mention that I saw Alanis Morrisette is touring the UK next year. She did a tour of Jagged Little Pill for it’s 25th (😖) anniversary a few years back and I missed it- still gutted.

GellerYeller · 01/11/2024 20:00

Cry for Help, one of the lesser known Rick Astley classics(IMHO).

BananaSpanner · 01/11/2024 20:01

A lot of you would like listening to the Indie disco show on Friday evenings on Absolute 90s, I listen to it whilst waiting for my daughter to do gymnastics. Some 90s classics.

springbabydays · 01/11/2024 20:01

So many.

Independent Love Song by Scarlet

Living on my Own by Freddie Mercury

74/75 by the Connells

Are particular stand outs for me.

Jifmicroliquid · 01/11/2024 20:01

But my ultimate favourite is “Cornflake Girl” by Tori Amos. That song is so clever.

Absolute 90s is permanently tuned in in my car 😁

I love Independent Love Song and 74/75.

Thanks @Specksofwhiteallaround - I’m going to be using this thread to make a playlist!

Just Another Day Without You - Jon Secada. Played a lot on Atlantic 252.

Few years later was equally obsessed by Speak to Me Someone and Haunted by You - Gene.

I was a melancholy, love struck teen...

Kiss the Rain - by Billie Myers (strong French exchange trip memories)

Your Woman by White Town (had it on single cassette)

I was going to say Kiss the Rain, still love that song

I loved Dear Jessie by Madonna (late 80s I think rather than 90s), lots of people I've spoken to don't know it at all.

I love Dear Jessie. I was massive Madonna fan in the late 80s. Listening to anything from the True Blue or Like a Prayer albums still takes me right back to my teenage years.

You Can Talk To Me by the Seahorses.

You’re the Voice by John Farnham. Was 1986 rather than 1990s but close enough?

Nah, anyone with any 'Aussie' in them would singalong with Johnnie!

See if you can get tickets for their current UK tour! Most places sold out but I think a few more tickets have just been released.

springbabydays · 01/11/2024 20:07

@R00tat00tt00t omg Atlantic 252!!! Huge memory unlocked there, I remember being a tad obsessed at the time 😁😁

Atlantic 252! That was my childhood right there.
Just another day without you was such a massive part of a lot of my childhood memories. It was played a lot. Brilliant song!

Race by Tiger
On your own by verve
Seether by verucca salt
Feed the tree by belly
Loads of excellent stuff that rarely comes on the radio.
Lucky I have my old mix tape CDs 😁

I had the single of Independent Love song 😂

WhitegreeNcandle · 01/11/2024 20:10

LOVED Atlantic252. I’m 16, on my tractor on my Dads farm in 1996 on a Sunday night listening to Graham Torrington’s late night love.

Surely everyone remembers this song. It’s a classic!

I've got it on a Spotify playlist. My kids know it!
