Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

Thinking About Your Love - Kenny Thomas

I loved Kenny Thomas. He does seem largely forgotten which is a real shame

I’ve had one in my head for years and I can’t remember the title or artist - it’s infuriating!

I’ve tried searching the lyrics and singing it to friends but no one can remember it.

Do you remember this?

We were put upon this planet
to love and help each other
at least I think that’s the way god planned it
why then hurt your brother?

we come from earth
sister or brother
we come from earth
whatever colour

You Come From Earth by Lena?

I was listening to Sparkle by My Life Story the other day.. been along time since I heard their stuff.

Kiss the Rain - by Billie Myers (strong French exchange trip memories)

Your Woman by White Town (had it on single cassette)

Love Kiss The Rain too. In fact I had it as an ear worm the other day.

Right beside you. Sophie B Hawkins.

One of my favourite songs of all time.

St Swithin's Day by Dubstar. Walked around Oxford with my Walkman in listening to them.

I love that song and the whole album. I also lived in Oxford at the time!

FranKatzenjammer · 01/11/2024 19:50

I have so many 90s favourites. One is 'Vanessa' by Marion.

MagicianMoth · 01/11/2024 19:50

Hanging Around by MeMeMe.

It was a “supergroup” involving Alex James from Blur and some other Britpop types. I don’t think it was the success they hoped for. But it slaps and the video is hilariously bad 😄

I particularly like the deep and meaningful lyric: “He said everything is free, I like coffee you like tea” 🤣

I had this on CD single. Think other tracks included Tabitha (Agatha?)’s Island.

Mine is We’re Going Out by the Younger Younger 28s - it was 2000 actually but almost scrapes in

Occitane · 01/11/2024 19:50

I loved Dear Jessie by Madonna (late 80s I think rather than 90s), lots of people I've spoken to don't know it at all.

INeedEvidenceMum · 01/11/2024 19:55

World Shut your Mouth by Julian Cope. Had the single on vinyl. Still love it.

Piemam · 01/11/2024 19:55

@OliviaRodrighost Allison Clarkson AKA Betty Boo too! I like this song. @FranKatzenjammer loved the This World and Body album! Vanessa a real favourite. @Pancakeflipper went to see these circa 1996 and there was confetti at the end, how apt!
Thanks for the memories all

KittenBiscuit · 01/11/2024 19:55

I Am, I Feel by Alisha's Attic - I remember driving my family up the wall playing the album on repeat on our family holiday in 1996, looking back it probably didn't sound the best on the little speakers I had plugged into my DiscMan! 😂

RebeccaDecember · 01/11/2024 19:55

I can’t pick one!

On and On by Longpigs
Anywhere by Dubstar
Secret Smile by Semisonic
Olympian by Gene
If You Don’t Want Me to Destroy You by Super Furry Animals
I Alone by Live
King of the Kerb by Echobelly.

I’ve got more 😊

RenoDakota · 01/11/2024 19:55

Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might be Giants. Saw them in 1990 when it came out and am seeing them again the week after next in Manchester. Everyone I have told about the gig has never heard of them! Shocked.

This was on a 90s TOTP recently 😁 I bought it because I was a huge Blur fan and loved Alex. It's so shit but so very 90s, I love it and remember the TOTP performance.

Mine is A Pessimist is Never Disappointed by pre-Groovejet Sophie Ellis-Bextor in theaudience. Also First Big Weekend by Arab Strap, an Evening Session favourite.

Katrinawaves · 01/11/2024 19:56

Haha that’s amazing that so many people do know mine. I remember being at a Radio 1 roadshow in Nothern Ireland in the 80’s when Steve Wright played it and he said then no one in England knew it but it had topped the charts for months in Northern Ireland (for obvious reasons)

Clearly it got more popular over time!

Right beside you. Sophie B Hawkins.

I luuuurved Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover by Sophie B Hawkins. 12 year old me thought it was so sexy.
I Love You Always Forever by Donna Lewis and God by Joan Osbourne were big hitters on my disc man. I thought the latter was very profound.

@Ilovemyshed the video for 1963 with Jane Horrocks is brilliantly bonkers. LOVE that song!
I also had the Dubstar and My Life Story albums on CD.
Can I add Won’t Stop Lovin You by A Certain Ratio feat. Bernard Sumner(of New Order), and Walking Down Madison. Kirsty McColl(with help from Johnny Marr).

He still tours and pretty much sells out.

I've been to see him twice in the last few years.

Pink elephants and lemonade…will be going round in my head this evening now.

Jifmicroliquid · 01/11/2024 19:58

“Damn, I wish I was your lover” Sophie B Hawkins. What a tune.
