Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

She represented England in Eurovision 96 with that song so make of that what you will 😄

Just England?

I wouldn't say no one else remembers, because they still have a sizeable fanbase but they'd rarely get mentioned outside of this

Afghan Whigs - John the Baptist

That whole album is great, and I still listen to it regularly, especially Somethin' Hot and Omerta.

John the Baptist has a great groove, but it always seems so sad to me. He's got the wine and the Marvin Gaye, but then it's

'I only want to see you happy
Baby can we pretend'

Still a set list staple.

Doesn't say much for our country 😁😂

Soukmyfalafel · 02/11/2024 11:12

Just thought of another

Fascinating Rhythm by Bass-o-matic

Soukmyfalafel · 02/11/2024 11:14

Good call about Rocket from a Crypt

Wasn't one of the guitarists really fit?

So many great songs mentioned already. I also loved listening to Atlantic 252.
Does anyone remember To Be With You by Mr Big? And Everything About You by Ugly Kid Joe? Baby I Love Your Way by Big Mountain is another good one.
Great thread!

To be with you by Mr big os one of my fave songs

I apologise whole heartedly for writing England instead of the UK… well done you for pointing it out.

Don’t let go by Eternal has just come back to me.. Not in the territory of favourite songs but I have very happy memories of belting that out with my mates after DT 😂

I remember Gene! Saw them live a few times. I love “Where are they now?”

Yes, that’s it! A thousand thank yous!

Oh, the relief to actually hear it again and not start to think I just made it up.

The artist’s name didn’t ring a bell, so I probably never knew who it was in the first place. No idea why my searching brought nothing of the sort up that linked to the song though.

Yay! I’m so glad your agony is over! I bought the single when it was released because I worked with her at the time 😁

DCIGeneHunt · 02/11/2024 13:09

@TribulationPeriwinkle No way! I just recorded it from the radio and cut off the DJ naming the track!

Yep. 1988, but I figured I had probably done my "Decade breach!" klaxon a few times already. 😂

xsquared · 02/11/2024 13:25

Someone mentioned earlier "On the bible" by Deuce earlier, but I quite liked "Call it Love", which I believe was their first single.

In a way, they were supposed to have been what Steps had become. One of them was Lisa Armstrong who went on to become a make up artist for Strictly.

I remember being desperately unhappy in the 90s but three songs I adored:

You - Ten Sharp

Your woman - White Town

Circle - Edie Brickell

Then DH usually lectures me that we met in 1994, so I clearly wasn’t as miserable as I recall for the entire decade. He’s right, but the early 90s were a wasteland and I was so grateful for some good music.

I love Your Woman. Big hit though so plenty of people know about it

DearSnail · 02/11/2024 13:29

Sale of the Century by Sleeper is another underrated but great song.

Dual Lipa also sampled "Your woman" on one of her songs didn't she?

Another one that's been sampled and doesn't get played anymore is "I love your smile" by Shanice Wilson.
That was catchy too.

Joshua kadison
Jessie-side A

SinisterBumFacedCat · 02/11/2024 14:43

Another couple of indie ones

Duel by Swervedriver
Overthrown by Libido

Someone mentioned My Life Story, Angel was a beautiful song, I listened to it on repeat coming home on the train after visiting my then boyfriend at Uni.

1998 by Binary Finary

Edited

Not sure about that but Your Woman sounds like it samples a song or two!
