Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

The Mission did some cracking songs in the 90s like Butterfly on a Wheel, Tower of Strength & Like A Child Again

Brilliant band. I was lucky enough to catch them a few years back when they supported alice Cooper. His vocals are still amazing, unlike Mr eldritch...

Ummm, who's Mr Eldrich? But you're lucky to have seen them & great that his voice is still good

Sorry, I meant Andrew eldritch from sisters of mercy! They were another dark goth rock band around at the same time as the mission.

Oh I loved the Levellers! I saw them live several times… i had t-shirts and all their albums ofcourse. They still tour , but they look so old. I am just afraid it won’t be the same as it was back then.

Last time I saw them was over 10 years ago, but I saw them live a lot at gigs and festivals. I even met Mark once - was a bit cringe - have the photo to prove it!!

@Specksofwhiteallaround I remember No Mercy Where Do You Go from 1994. It still gives me a funny feeling when I hear it and I'm 15 again!

Relieved it’s not just me who remembers that one, it was definitely an ear worm at the time.

@Cattyisbatty Also Return to Innocence -Enigma. I remember school discos where both of the Enigma songs were played...not really easy to dance to...😂

Haha that’s amazing that so many people do know mine. I remember being at a Radio 1 roadshow in Nothern Ireland in the 80’s when Steve Wright played it and he said then no one in England knew it but it had topped the charts for months in Northern Ireland (for obvious reasons)

Clearly it got more popular over time!

It's a massive song. It's on the radio a lot. I'd be more surprised if someone didn't know it tbh.

So many.

Independent Love Song by Scarlet

Living on my Own by Freddie Mercury

74/75 by the Connells

Are particular stand outs for me.

The video for 74/75 is so depressing.

Set Adrift on Memory Bliss by P.M. Dawn
Such a teenage throwback

PM Dawn did a great performance of it on TOTP.
The singer died tragically young.

Rocket from the crypt - on a rope

LOVE RFTC. I got to see them twice. On A Rope is on a couple of recent episodes of TOTP from 1996 on BBC 4

Justified and ancient you mean?

Does anyone remember Doctorin' The Tardis also by the KLF but known as the Time Lords in the late 80s for this?

LyndaSnellsSniff · 05/11/2024 20:47

Dark Therapy by Echobelly.
Under The Gun by The Sisters of Mercy
Glorious by Andreas Johnson

xsquared · 05/11/2024 20:48

Has anyone mentioned Buddy Holly by Weezer yet? I loved the Happy Mondays video cross over.

xsquared · 05/11/2024 20:53

There was a point where ex Eastenders actors were having a go at being a pop star.

Michelle Gayle - Sweetness

Sean Maguire - Everybody needs someone to love, or something along those lines.

Martine McCutcheon who was a bit more successful Mon that front. Although Bradley Walsh was gobsmacked at a co testing getting a question about her right in The Chase!

I think even Sid Owen had a go but can't remember what he did!

Sophie Lawrence did too but she wasn't great.

IKEAJesus · 05/11/2024 20:59

@xsquared So many TV actors releasing singles in the 1990s - half of the Neighbours cast seemed at it, and then from the UK Robson & Jerome, Jimmy Nail (although tbf I think he was a singer before he was an actor), and Nick Berry.

xsquared · 05/11/2024 21:06

I blame Stock Aitken and Waterman.with the Neighbours actors although Natalie Imbruglia escaped as she was a out 10 years too late for them!

I'm specifically referring to Eastenders actors claiming to leave the acting profession to pursue a pop career, only for it to disappear again.

Sid Owen did a cover of ‘Good Thing Going’ iirc.

Why that takes up space in my brain when I can barely remember my own name these days is a question for another day…

Se a vida e by the Pet Shop Boys. I recently rediscovered it!
