There's only one floating pile of garbage in this story and it lives in Mar a Lago.

To Kamala Harris and all the other Democratic candidates on the ballot - May your courage, determination and hard work bring you the success you deserve. ❤️
To Donald (Jessica) Trump - May you get everything you deserve... and then some.

Yip, he's really whipping up the 'steal' rhetoric to prime his base for a fight. It's not the action of a confident (or healthy, sane) person.

And now they're ready for that tired old playbook!

Trump will be sitting in a jail cell come Christmas. But I'd put money that once he loses he'll play the cognitive decline card as a medical justification to avoid prison.

violetchachki · 04/11/2024 12:40

It's not as if he doesn't have enough evidence on tape of his cognitive decline...

MorrisZapp · 04/11/2024 12:40

Oh god let's hope so. Politics as soap opera is great fun when you're winning!

I honestly don't think it is that close. I think that sense (and women) will prevail and Harris will win.

I also think that the 'tight race' is often very much hyped by the media, Harris has pulled ahead now and is going to win doesn't as easily draw in the viewers. My goodness I hope I'm right!

I want to believe this so badly but there's a small part of my brain reminding me that every time until now the 'hidden' vote has favoured Trump. His unhinged rhetoric I think makes it less likely people will admit to voting for him even if in the privacy of the booth they do.

Spandauer · 04/11/2024 13:00

I'm definitely more optimistic than I was a week/10 days ago but whenever I see a clutch of positive posts about Harris being ahead or previous GOP voters switching to her, I make myself look at a few Trump supporters' posts to bring me back down to earth again!

if not jail, house arrest in florida during hurricane season is sevond best

Today's 'poll of polls' apparently has DT ahead by one tenth of a percentage point.

In Scotland, we call this a 'baw hair'.

Is it insane to take a day of annual leave to watch CNN without cease 😂

No, I'm doing it! That's my Wednesday plan

MorrisZapp · 04/11/2024 13:16

Trump supporter on the news just said that the January 6th attack was a day of love which only became nasty at the end, which was staged. You can't argue with stupid.

Things are starting to look a bit more positive, Katty Kay described the Harris camp as “nauseously optimistic”.

HunsandRoses · 04/11/2024 13:33

I see the Daily Fail is doing its best to shake Pom Poms for Team Trump.

That article about Melania and Barron heading down to Florida for the victory party is hilarious. How long do you think it will take them to disappear if he loses?😂

So I've consulted the tea leaves and here are H&Rs 2024/25 predictions

  1. Trump loses
  2. Trump says he's won
  3. Trump is sentenced to 6 months in prison with 6 months house arrest
  4. Melania files for divorce
  5. JD Vance tries to unite MAGA behind him as the new dear leader but bombs.
  6. Trump's real estate assets are seized including Mar-a-Lago to pay the $500M New York fraud verdict.
  7. DJT stock crashes
  8. Jack Smith makes a major push forward on the election interference case and gets a court date on the calendar for 2025. SCOTUS refuses to give any further help to Trump.

What do I win if I get a full house 🤣😂

This kind of buoyancy troubles me. It could just as easily swing the other way if floating voters think it’s in the bag & stay home, or it mobilises Trump voters who weren't going to bother turning out. If I was in the Harris camp I’d shut up right about now & continue fighting for every single vote.

Completely agree@boatyardblues. It's not over till the Orange Man sings.

MorrisZapp · 04/11/2024 13:39

Barron has my heart. God love him, he didn't ask to be a Trump. He's the image of my wonderful, weird, autistic nephew and I hope he thrives once this utter shitshow is over.

TheABC · 04/11/2024 13:40

If Vance does not achieve VP this time, I can see De Santis trying to take over the MAGA wing with his presidential bid in 2028.

I'm with the Harris camp. Nauseous and hopeful. It sounds like their ground game is a lot better than Trump's too after rumours that Musk fired a lot of people from his PAC.

MorrisZapp · 04/11/2024 13:42

If Trump is vanquished then there is no further need for reasonable Reps to hang back in their reservations about him in the hope of seeing power. Could this bring reasonable /moderate Reps back to the mainstream?

TheABC · 04/11/2024 13:45

Long term, I hope so, @MorrisZapp. However, if Trump loses this week, all his supporters will still be there and primed for the next look-alike.

Yes, absolutely.

There was already evidence the Trumpists were planning to claim a steal if they lost ( these threads passim – appointing carefully selected election officials, the Gob telling everyone it didn't even matter if they didn't vote, and the best guide to future behaviour being past behaviour).

And we can see they're preparing the information space for exactly that.
Marianna Spring has been monitoring election messaging coming into various social media accounts:

Gabriela is an undecided voter. Here's the very different content TikTok and X showed her
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy5lngzxxrvo

The messaging she's being fed on YouTube (but not TikTok), is very skewed to material claiming the Republican candidate is well ahead, visually reinforced with images of the US painted red; and unfounded rumours about election fraud which have already been debunked.

More on the sources and type:

Rumours, misleading allegations and outright lies about voting and fraud are flooding online spaces in unprecedented numbers in advance of the US election.

In no surprise to anyone, some of it is coming from the Russians, in an operation named Storm-1516 which is linked to another of the late unlamented Prigozhin's organizations, viz the "Russian Foundation to Battle Injustice":

Wasn't Barron behind the booking of Tony Hinchcliffe for the Nazi rally?

No. They've moved too much of the Republican voting base to the extreme. 33% of the country has no interest in a moderate party. JD Vance et al are the direction of the GOP for the foreseeable future.

I think this is good advice for both sides of the debate.

That's actually some of the most repellent advice I've ever seen.

mibbelucieachwell · 04/11/2024 14:05

In the event of Trump winning, horrific as that would be, at least I'd enjoy watching him being asked about his claims that the election was rigged. If anyone were brave enough.
