There's only one floating pile of garbage in this story and it lives in Mar a Lago.

To Kamala Harris and all the other Democratic candidates on the ballot - May your courage, determination and hard work bring you the success you deserve. ❤️
To Donald (Jessica) Trump - May you get everything you deserve... and then some.

I would hunker down if I was there.

I've just seen this from Anthony Scaramucci. Looking forward to the latest TRIP US which I believe will be out later today.

Now the orange buffoon is suggesting he'll ban vaccines if elected. Fairly certain he had a nasty bout of Covid and was saved by being vaccinated. 😶And RFK said yesterday they would look at removing fluoride from tap water. Between that and abortion what the fuck is his problem with legitimate healthcare!

He really does want to take the US back to the middle ages.

He wants to dictate what media people read. What people do with their health, their bodies, what they watch on TV

It's North Korea style with a dictator at the helm. He wants ultimate control

Sorry, flogging a dead horse here, but this is exactly why I have no comprehension as to why anyone at all would vote for him? His mysoginistic, half-baked "policies" aside, he has said clearly that he will remove all people's democratic right to vote from them on Day 1 of his next Presidency. Who thinks that is a good idea?

It is totally beyond me. Interestingly, I watched some of his rallies from previously, his decline now is absolutely shocking. Back then he made a tiny bit of sense on occasions but now he slurs his words, he doesn't seem to know where he actually is speaking, he rambles far more, he is incapable of talking on one subject. The contrast was so apparent

BruceAndNosh · 04/11/2024 08:52

@BustingBaoBun same here. I watched a clip from his 2016 campaign... You wouldn't think it's the same person. You could follow what he was saying, even if you didn't agree with him, he stuck to the point. His entire pattern of speech was completely different, the vocabulary, the cadence, no unusual emphasis on certain words like he does now (like Ch-y-nya)

Absolutely agree. I don’t like Trump’s policies but Trump from 2016 was a strong political force, he was a powerful public speaker and very politically astute. Now he’s just a dangerous bumbling fool.

Igotjelly · 04/11/2024 09:26

BBC's Americast have done a good episode on whether Harris is pulling ahead (spoiler they think she may well be). They talk at length about the Iowa poll and it's fascinating and would recommend it to any uber-nerds like me 😂Essentially the poll could be:

  • Wrong (they think this is unlikely as she's a well respected pollster who will poll the same people/groups of people each cycle and will know if they're likely to turn out)
  • Showing something that other polling companies have dismissed (this has been known to happen before when polls are surprising)
  • Wrong(ish) - so it shows Harris up by 3%, given that it's a solid red state and Trump is expecting to be up by 10%+ even a 6% margin of error in her poll would be a disaster for Trump in what should be a safe state for him.
  • Driven by women 💪 (I like to think this is it and as ever women will sweep in and save the day).

So why on earth is this election so close, apparently? I'm sorry, I know I can't expect you to answer that but I am totally flummoxed by this. I can't for the life of me think for a reason for it. Unless, of course, the Democrats have managed to do a real dirty with the polls and have somehow deluded Trump and his followers into believing he is leading when he is, in fact, way behind? Oh, and Evangelical Christians who have no comprehension of what Jesus Christ actually stood for, I suppose. Trump/the religious right go completely against Jesus Christ's teachings in their restrictive interpretations of the Bible.

I sense I am so invested in this that I'll be glued to news sources and social media for the rest of the week. Fortunately I am leisurelily retired and already taking tablets for hypertension.

The 100 Worst Things Trump Has Done Since Descending That Escalator

Some were just embarrassing. Many were horrific. All of them should disqualify him from another four years in the White House.

@Igotjelly - wrote and posted the above before reading your last. Thank you, will listen to that Americast podcast.

I love that! Agreed! Edited to add that I am nonetheless very disturbed by the numbers of women who seem to firmly believe that Trump is God and therefore a Good Thing.

Fellow flummoxed here too! It is honestly beyond me. He is so so so much worse with the hate, the racism, the mysogyny, the insults and name calling... than he was back in 2016, but here we are. I think a lot of his rally audience go to hear him just desperate to see his nasty rhetoric. It makes them feel good. When he performed fellatio on the mic, the cheers and whooping was off the scale.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 04/11/2024 09:39

@BustingBaoBun - yes, the misogynistic raging haters walk with impunity amongst us, facilitated and emboldened by Trump and Farage.

CaveMum · 04/11/2024 09:58

Came on to recommend yesterday’s Americast but see @Igotjelly beat me to it 😜

Instead I will recommend today’s episode of TRIP Leading with Michael Lewis - author of Moneyball, The Big Short (one of my favourite films) and The Fifth Risk (about Trump’s presidency).

He’s very engaging and entertaining and also offers his opinion on why people are voting for Trump - he says he thinks it is not a question of supporting Trump but more that they are so disenchanted with politics that they are just looking for someone who will attack what they perceive to be a biased system.

mibbelucieachwell · 04/11/2024 10:02

There's a fascinating documentary, directed by Louis Theroux but presented by a fantastic young woman, in which American women on the right were interviewed and followed.

One of the women in it is genuinely terrified by Trump's rhetoric about America being 'flooded' with terrorists, rapists and drug dealers who enter America from the Mexican border. Armed and wearing a bullet proof vest, she regularly visits part of the border to look out for illegal immigrants and report them. Trump has managed to frighten many Americans into thinking that the democrats would allow America to become a failed state and that it's about time someone stands up for the ordinary American who has been extremely hard done by. Unfortunately many many Americans have fallen for this.

They've been fed a line that Democrats are liars and cheats who have a vendetta against Trump. Some Trump supporters think he has been sent by God to save America. I mean, we all know that God works in mysterious ways, so the fact of the American saviour aka Trump being an extremely rough 'diamond' doesn't put them off voting for him. I think something like 25% of Americans believe that angels exist in bodily form.

Apologies if I'm rehashing previous posts - I've only skim read this thread. Thank you for starting it, it's so good to have somewhere to discuss this historic election. I'll be biting my nails with you over the next few days. Though cautiously optimistic that Harris will win. Let's hope it's with a bigger margin than the polls are predicting.

I honestly don't think it is that close. I think that sense (and women) will prevail and Harris will win.

I also think that the 'tight race' is often very much hyped by the media, Harris has pulled ahead now and is going to win doesn't as easily draw in the viewers. My goodness I hope I'm right!

MorrisZapp · 04/11/2024 12:30

I'm refreshing YouTube to get the latest Trip US, I'm not a fan of Americast as I find so smug it almost makes me want to vote orange 🤣

MorrisZapp · 04/11/2024 12:32

I have no vote, I'm in Edinburgh, I'm talking theoretically of course!

violetchachki · 04/11/2024 12:34

I believe Kamala Harris will become the next president. I think even Donald knows this by now, which is why he is increasingly unravelling.

Yip, he's really whipping up the 'steal' rhetoric to prime his base for a fight. It's not the action of a confident (or healthy, sane) person.
