There's only one floating pile of garbage in this story and it lives in Mar a Lago.

To Kamala Harris and all the other Democratic candidates on the ballot - May your courage, determination and hard work bring you the success you deserve. ❤️
To Donald (Jessica) Trump - May you get everything you deserve... and then some.

You have a dog of discernment, Wallaw. Please give her a gentle furfle from me as a token of my esteem and regard, once she is talking to you again.

Bwah-hahahahaha! at that video @Talkinpeace

So deluded. Both him AND his sycophants and myrmidons.

Flipping Joe Biden if only he had stood down sooner. It seems so rushed but Kamala is getting in the swing now though thank goodness.

prettybird · 03/11/2024 18:20

@Talkinpeace - ds is coming over for his supper tonight, so we'll ask him.

I think, like most of us here, he doesn't want to get his hopes up until it's absolutely certain - because even then, Trump is going to try to steal it.

Talkinpeace · 03/11/2024 18:28

because even then, Trump is going to try to steal it.
But this time the election officials and local government officials and state national guards are READY
Any wazzock with an Old Glory flag within snipers range of the Capitol will get a hard time
Places like Maricopa already have the video feeds and security set up

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 03/11/2024 18:50

I know XTwitter is not necessarily a reflection of any kind of truth - but I've just read a long thread of posts from mainly "Boomer" women, who, like myself, remember the horror of back-street abortions and the women's lives lost or damaged because of them, and who rejoiced at the Roe v Wade decision in 1973, and refuse to contemplate going back, because they are thinking of their daughters' and grand-daughters', nieces and great-nieces', futures, with full control of their own bodies without interference from men/government. I hope they will carry the vote. I really do.

Thank you but I am not responsible for linking the 2 asylums (asylii?), someone on social media came up with that several months ago

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 03/11/2024 19:48

This is horrific but necessary watch for anyone wondering about the affects of withdrawal of women's health care rights

HeddaGarbled · 03/11/2024 19:56

If Biden had stepped down sooner, there’d have been more time to consider other candidates, and I suspect Kamala wouldn’t have prevailed.

Whether that would have made any difference to the current position, who knows. I think probably not - there didn’t seem to be anyone particularly outstanding coming up.

BestIsWest · 03/11/2024 16:51

Me too @CaveMum. I’m halfway through S3.
You have one of the saddest moments coming up.

Oh I know. This is my eleventy-billionth rewatch 😜

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 03/11/2024 20:10

I'm too squeamish to watch the whole of the Rachel Maddow segment. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for timely obstetric interventions and D&Cs in the 1990s. That the alternatives are legally happening in some states in 2024 is beyond horrific. I hope that evil bastard and his equally evil followers are not voted in on Tuesday. But also, doesn't the American electoral system, and SCOTUS, need to be completely overhauled to come into line with the twenty-first century? It can't remain as it is after Trump's bad faith machinations, surely?

I sort of disagree.
I think it was a master stroke and possibly deliberate to wait until after the vp candidate was confirmed for the republican party.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 03/11/2024 20:25

I agree that it was a masterstroke, @bluecomputerscreen, but not so sure it was deliberate. There have been times recently when I've wondered if Biden, out of resentment, may not have deliberately mis-spoken in order to land Harris in it, given how hard he (or was it Jill Biden?) resisted the pressure for him to stand down at the time. Maybe those thoughts are unjustified on my part, and maybe he is just losing touch with reality more and more.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/11/2024 20:30

I think underestimating Biden's intelligence and political savvy is probably as dire a mistake as overestimating the same things in Trump.

And I am not convinced about that "gaffe": having listened to it, I think the reporting is mostly a hatchet job, just as accusing Clinton of saying that all Republican were deplorable was a hostile spin on what she actually said.

I also really see no reason for Biden deliberately to sabotage the party he has given his life to for all those years....

TokyoSushi · 03/11/2024 20:33

I honestly thing it's shifting towards Harris now, and it's women who are shifting it, there really is hope.

Talkinpeace · 03/11/2024 20:37

Neither Biden nor Harris were my choice for the Democrat candidate this year.
Biden is a good man, that is why he stepped aside.
Accusations to the contrary need a LOT of evidence

I know, @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime, I just have had these little misgivings at the back of my mind recently, as I said, probably quite unjustified.

Yes, I agree. I've had my issues with Joe Biden over the years, but he genuinely loves the Democratic party and his country. I also believe his affection for Harris is very genuine. She was very close friends with Beau, which is how he got to know her. But I'm old enough to remember about 30 years of Biden gaffes and verbal missteps. It was also a nothingburger compared to the sewage that spews out of trumps rectum-mouth on an hourly basis. I love how JD backflipped straight from 'we need to stop being so offended' re the Nazi rally to 'waahhh, Biden is a meanie, we're offended'.

Re Harris. I didn't love her the first time she ran, but think she's grown a lot. I don't know if she would be my first choice, but I can see the many reasons she was the wisest choice at that particular moment.

I have to say, I'm incredibly impressed by AOC right now. She's really grown into her role and learned a lot about how to be a team player and is incredibly articulate. I'm eagerly waiting for the day I get to vote for a Buttigieg/Ocasio- Cortez ticket.

But for now, go Harris-Walz!!

Fuck me, that was powerful.

We talked about the election over supper: in essence, ds said his head thinks Harris will win but his heart still fears a Trump win. He refused to be heartened by the recent Iowa poll - despite the pollsters credentials- as the polls have been all over the place and essentially they're too close to call. M

What he's really disappointed about (viz-à-viz the USA as a whole) is that someone as nuts and divisive as Trump is still holding steady at c47% Shock. That concerns him - even though his head knows that it's only the swing states that count.

He did also point out that it could be a tie in tbd electoral college Shock ....in which case it goes to Congress, Shock but he said that that's not as bad as you might think as even though the House of Representatives is currently Republican, it would be the newly elected members that get to vote in January and there are still a few some decent Republicans who believe in democracy. Plus the HoR doesn't get to vote "normally": each state's vote would have the same weight. Not sure how the House of Representatives and the Senate are going to look after Tuesday - the coverage has focused almost exclusively on the Presidential campaign.

His poor girlfriend is not that interested in politics (but has become a lot more aware over the last 3 years Wink) so had to tolerate us discussing it for most of the meal Grin

Ds has taken a white board and pens away with him so that he can draw his map tomorrow Smile

SpoonHeader · 03/11/2024 22:27

It sounds very heated over there. A priest said he was walking with a man wearing a MAGA hat and someone tooted their horn, shouted at them and gave them the middle finger.

BustingBaoBun · 03/11/2024 22:41

And ...

Workers are installing anti-scale riot fences at the @VP residence tonight in preparation for Tuesday’s election 😮
