Hands Across The Water - Trump thread #135

There's only one floating pile of garbage in this story and it lives in Mar a Lago.

To Kamala Harris and all the other Democratic candidates on the ballot - May your courage, determination and hard work bring you the success you deserve. ❤️
To Donald (Jessica) Trump - May you get everything you deserve... and then some.

USA was created in response to the Madness of King George.
What will the Madness of f'King Trump produce?

BruceAndNosh · 06/11/2024 17:01

For all his complaints about Democrats Lawfare, I suspect Trump is going to demonstrate what REAL Lawfare looks like.
I read that Alito and Thomas are likely to retire from SCOTUS during the next 4 years (congratulations Aileen Cannon, you're barely qualified to be a judge and you might be a Supreme Court one soon...) but also mentioned Sotomayor as possibly standing down too.
SCOTUS is not looking good

This is why we should be very careful of what powers judges have. They are only accountable to the law and increasingly they like to extend it.

Appellate judges across the world increasingly see themselves as philosophers on the American model and it's been a dangerous trend.

The commentariat should all resign.
I will not give them clicks or time.
They are arrogant rich white men who WILL NOT listen to what has actually happened.

Remember that Labour lost vote share, but Reform split what was left of the Tory vote.
Dems lost vote share
and are in UTTER denial about why.

Willowkins · 06/11/2024 19:52

@biscuitandcake I thought that was going to be: Always look on the bright side of life Grin

Ds has said that we are unlikely to have grandchildren Sad

He doesn't think he could or should bring them into a world with such a precarious future Sad

He's only 24. What future does he have if the planet is going to burn: whether by war or by runaway climate change. Hmm

He's switched off/uninstalled all his social media and is going off to enjoy the rest of his holiday until he had to go back into the office on Tuesday.

He's paying for us and his girlfriend's parents (first time meeting them) at our favourite Italian restaurant on Saturday. They're coming over from Fife specially. So at at least that's something to look forward to Smile

Lonelycrab · 06/11/2024 20:20

fwiw @prettybird thats exactly how I felt in my twenties; the modern world is especially cruel and the outlook for the younger generations is sadly awful, but aged 40 I had my son and despite all that is going on I wouldn’t change it for the world. Have dreams of coming to live in Scotland one day and of course he’ll be with me if that’s what he wants.

I'm in California and I'm absolutely devastated. I just cannot understand how anyone voted for him, let alone him increasing his share. I am going to grieve for a few days and then find and join the underground resistance.

Talkinpeace · 06/11/2024 22:16

@prettybird
Give your boy a hug.
The sun will rise in the morning - even behind the clouds
Life will go on. We will fight on

BUT for people like @noodlezoodle
you need to seek out the women who voted for Trump in California
(and there are a LOT of them) and understand why and deal with those issues

The mistake we made here in the UK after Brexit was to shut ourselves in silos.
Learn from our fail.

Kamala Harris's concession speech was something else, it brought tears to my eyes and I think it will be inspirational to a lot of young disappointed people

Copperas · 06/11/2024 22:38

I thought so too

Well obviously the majority of Americans didn't want the woke shit the Democrats were spouting out hence the landslide win for the Republicans from ALL demographics!

Spandauer · 06/11/2024 22:42

Teflon Trump.

Fox News is reporting that Special Counsel Jack Smith will be gone before Trump is sworn-in and his two federal criminal cases will be withdrawn at the same time.

Our US family are gutted but not surprised. It’s a vote for ignorance and America has more than its fair share of narrow-minded fools.

You know what, I can accept some people don't want "woke shit" - not that that actually means anything.

But I don't understand how people can vote for someone who inspired an insurrection, paid off a porn star, is a convicted felon, has utter contempt for women, says horribly racist things, can't distinguish the truth from a lie, is a failed businessmen who doesn't pay his bills, is OK with women bleeding to death in hospital parking lots, was a good friend of Jeffrey Epstein, loves Kim Jong Un and is Putin's puppet.

Yeah, that's the bit I don't get.

Talkinpeace · 06/11/2024 22:47

@noodlezoodle
People voted based on what they saw in their day to day lives

  • rising food prices
  • boys on women's sports teams
  • rising fuel prices
  • immigrants they did not like the look of
less than 4% of Americans even considered foreign affairs in their vote that has to include a lot of Blue
Talkinpeace · 06/11/2024 22:49

Abortion was not on the presidential ballot.
In most of the states it was listed it was protected
even where Harris lost

I'm 30, had started to consider having children but worried about the world I am bringing them in to, this has really made me think no.

I had been thinking today that if I were Jack Smith I'd be filling in my application to emigrate somewhere today. His career in the USA won't be progressing any time soon. 😔

I am wondering how Melania is going to cope with this. She never liked the whole thing first time round ("Who gives a fuck about Christmas stuff"... her words) and her 'Be Best' and whose speech is she going to plagiarise this time, given she used Michelle Obama's just about word for word last time.

I don't think we will see much of her.

I can't decide whether this is her worst nightmare, or whether she imagines the job, and golf, will keep him safely occupied and away from her. Isn't Barron now at college or is that next year?

Boopear · 07/11/2024 07:37

Interestingly the Economist refused to endorse Trump last week precisely because his economic proposals were so shit. Nothing to do with him being a repugnant wannabe dictator. On paper his plans will send inflation through the roof. Which will be utterly exacerbated by labour supply issues (a la Brexit) when he strips the country of cheap immigrant labour. So let’s see how swimmingly that all goes…
