Hands Across The Water - Trump thread #135

There's only one floating pile of garbage in this story and it lives in Mar a Lago.

To Kamala Harris and all the other Democratic candidates on the ballot - May your courage, determination and hard work bring you the success you deserve. ❤️
To Donald (Jessica) Trump - May you get everything you deserve... and then some.

Greetings from New York. I had no idea these threads existed. Hopefully, no one minds a Yank joining. 😀

P.S. - great thread title.

Hello! Pull up a bollard.

Wow, so much overlap with the Ukraine threads. Who woulda thunk it? 😂

I need to stay off youtube. The comments are frying my brain and twisting my gut.
I'm not planning on staying up but I am a chronic insomniac so might well be posting at 3am.
What I don't want is to wake up to the same dread as I felt the morning after the Trump Biden debate.

Greetings back from a native New Yorker, now a transplanted Londoner (for now).

Welcome!

I'm going for gin or wine or both tonight!

Warm fuzzy thoughts to everyone in the US 🥰

I keep reading that the sky didnt fall in last time Trump was President. But surely this is the difference with President Trump 2.0 - no limitations on how he might choose to exercise power.

BruceAndNosh · 05/11/2024 16:05

The incessant cries of Rigged and CHEATS, is actually slighty reassuring. Trump can't be that confident if he's needing to get his excuses in place.

Trump 1.0 wasn't sure how far he could push it.
Trump 2.0 knows that most of the attempts to hold him legally culpable failed and he's now got a shiny new Cloak of Immunity

BruceAndNosh · 05/11/2024 16:12

I'm hoping that Trump is so hyped up on Adderall that he accidentally checks HARRIS when he votes

ListenLinda · 05/11/2024 16:29

What UK time are the results expected?

elp30 · 05/11/2024 16:34

Hello from Houston, Texas 🤠👋

Greater Houston has 12 counties and their main county, Harris, had 1.2 million people take advantage of early voting and as of 10am this morning (it's 10:30am), 85,000 have voted. Harris County has a population of 4.28 million. That's a great turn out so far.

What's interesting to me is that in the past, on Election Day, you could only vote in the area where you live. Today, you can vote anywhere with a voting booth. There are 700 in Harris County alone.

I'm very impressed.

Anyone having a special dinner tonight? We've got an old friend coming over so doing a roast chicken with all the works and plum kulfis for pud. Hoping that, plus lots of wine, will sustain us until the small hours.

I ordered some Double Gold Caramel Billionaire Magnums to sustain in the middle of the night. They sound quite Trumpy. Hopefully Trump and the ice cream will suffer a similar fate.

Hello, lucky you, being a New Yorker! One of my favourite cities, though I have only realised in the past couple of decades how it is by no means a microcosm of the USA. Welcome from a European who has been upset about Trump for more years than a donkey. I visited Trump Towers at some point in the last century and haven't been the same since.

Yes. All the decent republicans who were in his Administration are gone. It will just be those that pay lip service to him. And Project 2025 of course

And AT LEAST Biden is POTUS now so has the wherewithal to combat it

Where is everyone watching in the night? I will wake and put on the TV but it will only be terrestrial on my bedroom telly (no CNN etc). I will just flip between channels maybe....

I've put the CNN app on my phone for watching any progress during the night. You could do that and use headphones.

Talkinpeace · 05/11/2024 17:11

So you know how at lots of polling stations in various countries
they hand out "I voted" stickers.

At a certain polling station in Palm Beach they hand out enamelled badges to every voter to pin on their lapel afterwards.
Who paid for that I wonder ?

Hello from a long time lurker on these threads which are amazing. I downloaded the CNN app but it won't allow me to watch due to location. Any other ideas where I could watch on my phone? I am not in UK or US either and I don't have a VPN. What a Loser! 😊

I’m going to watch the TRIP coverage on YouTube from 8pm UK time. I’ll probably bail out around 11 as I’m so knackered!

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 05/11/2024 17:37

I think I did this for the last US election. I hope you don't mind if I raise my glass of her beloved apple cider to someone who posted on these threads as GingerIvy (amongst other names, probably, but that's the one I remember), a lovely American woman transplanted from Appleton, Minnesota to England, who died in early 2020, rapidly, in her forties from a brain tumour, and who was a stalwart on the earlier Trump threads on AIBU. I don't think she could believe this might be happening again.
Trish, I miss you, though I never met you.

My son is RN (retired), but I got the phrase well before he was born, possibly from the Navy Lark or the Goon Show. In full it would be "Ahoy, ahoy! Pull up a bollard."

Thats where I picked it up from too! My dad had me listening to Goon Show/Navy Lark/Round The Horne, etc as a kid - very unusual in the 90s!
