There's only one floating pile of garbage in this story and it lives in Mar a Lago.

To Kamala Harris and all the other Democratic candidates on the ballot - May your courage, determination and hard work bring you the success you deserve. ❤️
To Donald (Jessica) Trump - May you get everything you deserve... and then some.

My nerves will be shredded so I am liking feelgood stories like this one....

VOTER ALERT 109-year-old survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre just cast her ballot — For Kamala Harris. Pass it on to any friends with a lame excuse for not voting. “I don’t know how much longer I have left. But if this is my last ballot, then I’m grateful it’s for Kamala Harris. I have five children and more than 20 grandbabies. VP Harris has the better chance of building the nation I want them to inherit." Lessie Benningfield Randle continued in her statement that she was grateful for the right to vote. She was born in 1914, and women in Oklahoma didn't gain the right to vote in until 1918.

I know he badly blotted his copybook and was actually a version of Trump, but I can't help liking Clinton when he posts something like this:

Does that make me a closet misogynist?

I’ve just seen this in the Times’ section on where you can watch election coverage:

Channel 4 has a colourful lineup of panellists, including the Succession star Brian Cox, the former porn star Stormy Daniels and the former prime minister Boris Johnson. Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Emily Maitlis will anchor the show.

Interesting line-up.

I read that exit polls are embargoed until 5pm ET so 10pm UK time, is that correct?

Would watch, except for Johnson. Nah, will watch CNN instead.

I like Emily Maitlis, but the rest? In any case, my nerves can't standing watching, I like to read what's going on live, or listen to results, or go to sleep and wake up in the morning with the world put to rights overnight!

I see on Twitter there is a lot of pressure on GeorgeW Bush to endorse Kamala and it's turning into huge criticism. I believe all the other living Repub presidents have done so, I wonder why he's silent?

His daughter has been actively campaigning for Kamala and I remember him at the Trump inauguration after his speech saying something like...'that was some weird shit !'

Have you heard the story about George W at a charity dinner in California shortly after Trump's inauguration?

I can't remember the exact details, it was told by one of the guests on TRIP Leading who was talking about GWB having a great sense of humour:

GWB was a last minute stand in at a charity dinner and there were some grumblings amongst those attending, who were predominantly supporters of the Democrats, about him being there. The host introduced him and made mention of GWB's "weird shit" comment, whereby the audience burst into applause and cheers as GWB took the mic. His opening line was "So you like me now you motherf*ckers?!"

CNN are reporting that 4 of the 6 are registered Republican voters - so swing to Harris

Found this on Politico:
"5 a.m. Eastern — The first voting begins
The first polls will open beginning at 5 a.m. in some Vermont towns, even though technically, the first Election Day votes are cast at midnight in the small town of Dixville, New Hampshire — home to six registered voters (four Republicans and two independents). This allows the town to close the polls and report the first votes for Kamala Harris or Donald Trump anywhere in the country."

Eyesopenwideawake · 05/11/2024 10:46

I read that exit polls are embargoed until 5pm ET so 10pm UK time, is that correct?

Again, from Politico:
"There are two voter surveys: the traditional exit poll of in-person interviews with Election Day and early in-person voters, along with supplemental polling of mail voters. That’s conducted by Edison Research for the National Election Pool, which includes ABC News, CBS News, CNN and NBC News. There’s also AP Votecast, a voter survey without an in-person component conducted by The Associated Press, along with Fox News.
Beginning at 5 p.m., those news networks will begin releasing data from the survey, even though interviews will continue for hours. Since people are still voting everywhere, the results won’t characterize the outcome in any way but will include important clues about the race. The surveys may include data on how many voters made their decision in the final week of the race, or what percentage of voters approved of the job Biden is doing as president."

So yes, 10.00pm UK is the time to start watching any of those TV channels (or just looking online) for "clues".

What happens if the electors cast their votes against the popular vote in their state?

My view. Why doesn't everybody else think like this? Grin

Apologies to US MNetters who may not know of Sooty - but this made me lol. And I'm not so sure Sooty would vote for Trump?

(Can you tell I'm not getting anything done today? 😭)

I may have created a spreadsheet to follow the results 😳

Just pondering Arizona, polls seem to suggest that Trump is going to flip the state, but I wonder whether the "Puerto Rico comments" are going to make a difference - the Puerto Rican population in the state in 2019 was about 50,000 but it is now around 75,000. Whilst not all of those will be of voting age that could play a big part in the state going for Harris. Biden won by 11,000 votes in 2020.

SecretWitch · 05/11/2024 11:38

Im off to cast my vote at 7. Had a very tough night with little sleep. My stomach is in knots and probably won't resolve until I know the US has elected the first female president.

Wallaw · 05/11/2024 11:44

Phew. I'm back after my account was suspended for posting an article that apparently triggered the AI filters.

We'll be watching MSNBC (on Hulu via vpn) as I need Nicolle and Rachel and Steve Kornacki and scrolling between the live coverage on The Bulwark and Pod Save America.

Feeling incredibly sick to my stomach and really annoyed by the Joe Rogan endorsement. Not a surprise, and probably won't change any votes, but I'm so sick of these bloody men deciding the fate of women. What gives them the right to consign us and our daughters to America, Handmaid's Tale version?

On the flip side, still feeling guardedly optimistic and determined not to fall prey to believing the lies on polling etc. flooding the zone from the Orange Baboon camp.

Good luck to us all!

Igotjelly · 05/11/2024 11:50

Any optimism I had is fading and I don’t really have any reason for it.

Funny you should say that, it's how I feel, too. I am obviously completely out of step with the Average Joe Voter in the US. That guy I heard talking on Tom Swarbrick yesterday totally threw me so that up is down and down is up. Multiply him by a potential 102,000,000 voters and there you have it. No black female President this time around (or ever, if Trump gets his misogynistic, racist, dictatorial way?).

Oh, great. These fuckwits.

Right-wing groups, which use Telegram to organize real-world actions, are urging followers to watch the polls and stand up for their rights, in a harbinger of potential chaos.
