There's only one floating pile of garbage in this story and it lives in Mar a Lago.

To Kamala Harris and all the other Democratic candidates on the ballot - May your courage, determination and hard work bring you the success you deserve. ❤️
To Donald (Jessica) Trump - May you get everything you deserve... and then some.

I sometimes asked myself 'don't they read/view the news'?

but these days with social media algorythms that counts for nothing. if I don't actively search for information or have teens that mess up my youtube I see what mr musk/bezos/zuckerberg tell me I want to see.

First result in from Dixville Notch, NH.

Harris 3
Trump 3

Too close to call.

I know it’s only 6 people so hardly indicative but didn’t Biden win them all in 2020?

Yes. This was the only on-line article I could find about it. It seems very strange to me, and hopefully not a microcosm of how the whole country is thinking.

Also just read this. I'm with Tim Walz.

"Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said he’s disappointed the race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is so closely contested.
In an interview on CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” taped in Bucks County, Pennsylvania last Thursday, Walz laid out the contrast between the two candidates to show that the difference is “stark.”
He said of the election being so closely contested: “It disappoints me, I think, because I think that the choice is so stark, but it’s not surprising.”
“The country’s really divided. There’s been a group of people out there who figured that out, and I think they’ve done a wonderful job of making people think it doesn’t matter, everybody’s the same,” Walz said.
Walz then laid out how he saw the differences between Harris and Trump, particularly noting insults directed toward Puerto Rico made by a speaker at a Trump rally in October.
“In this case, you’ve got the Constitution versus not the Constitution. You’ve got reproductive rights versus I don’t care if you like it or not. I’ll tell you what to do, from Donald Trump in closing with insulting people. I know we’re sitting in Pennsylvania, there’s — there’s 500,000 Puerto Ricans here, and Puerto Ricans, as all Americans, are very proud of where they come from,” he said.
In the past, Walz has expressed some disbelief at the competitiveness of the presidential election. He has regularly mused at private fundraisers and campaign stops that “I’ll go to my grave not understanding” how the election is so close."

538 has swung back to Harris
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2024-election-forecast/

The electoral college prediction is Harris 270 Trump 268.

Nevada is a dead heat and Harris is ahead by a whisker in Pennsylvania.

Question: if the candidates are notionally even in the electoral college (on the basis of seats allocated to states) what happens if a faithless elector breaks the deadlock?

Who Is Favored To Win The 2024 Presidential Election?

538’s 2024 presidential election forecast model showing Democrat Kamala Harris’s and Republican Donald Trump’s chances of winning.

I thought I'd be excited, but actually I feel quite sick, argh!

The electoral college prediction is Harris 270 Trump 268

And if that turns out to be the result, we all know what’ll happen next😑

Last night’s Americast said that the Trump team are playing up their chances in New Hampshire. They said if NH goes his way then it’s going to be a very tight contest.

They did also point out that considering the Trump team also keep saying they’ve locked up North Carolina, Trump spent an awful lot of time there this last week which is not a sign of confidence - you campaign harder in the states you need to make up ground in.

Just remember, with so many polls in the margin of error, we could still see a Harris Landslide!

Igotjelly · 05/11/2024 07:57

Joe Rogan has officially endorsed Trump. Not surprising but he has a lot of influence.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 05/11/2024 08:08

What effect do you think Puerto Ricans voting for Harris will have in Florida, for example? Is their vote powerful enough to change the state to Blue or is that just a hopeless cause?
I've just seen this thread. Whether it means anything or not is the question.

I saw this posted yesterday evening so it's going to be crazy today with declarations of who's ahead and who's not. (But of course the results from Dixville Notch, NH of 3 votes each is the news that my brain keeps going back to! 😩)

Just in case anyone has failed to notice that Harris is a woman of colour, Trump riffs for a couple of minutes about how white he is...

Trump has firmly pivoted back to his perceived base - racist, sexist, etc - and a lot of people (particularly women) are saying “too much”.

I take it America does not have our tradition of shutting down all public political debate while the polls are open? I always quite like the sense of peace followed by frenzy when they can release the exit polls.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 05/11/2024 08:40

Yesterday I caught a bit of an interview on Tom Swarbrick's programme on LBC, from a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. A fanatic white male who had been to hundreds of pro-Trump rallies was wearing a cap saying: “Jesus is my saviour. Trump is my President.” He said he believes that Donald Trump was sent by God to preserve Abraham Lincoln’s promise that a government by the people, for the people and of the people will not perish from the earth. He also said that America is sick, America is going down and Trump is the only one that can save America, and in doing so, he saves the world. I thought it was a joke at first, but apparently not. You can’t argue with such delusion. Sanity is screwed.

Vance on point for his followers, but I think (hope) he may have lost some women's votes right there.

Here are the earliest times that polls close today:

  • Indiana - Polls close at 6 p.m. ET in most of the state
  • Kentucky - Polls close at 6 p.m. ET in most of the state
  • Florida - Polls close at 7 p.m. ET in most of the state
  • Vermont - Polls close at 7 p.m. ET
  • Virginia - Polls close at 7 p.m. ET
  • South Carolina - Polls close at 7 p.m. ET
  • Georgia - Polls close at 7 p.m. ET

Kentucky and Vermont both called within minutes of closing in 2020 so probably likely to be the same this time too, so around about 11pm-midnight UK time.

Some states have laws binding electors to vote for the winner of the election, others do not.

This is the point at which the Trumpists are planning to interfere in the election, if I remember correctly these threads passim.

They targetted this part of the process last time, just didn't get it all in place in time. But IIRC it's part of the reason for the attack on the Capitol – they were desperate to delay the counting of the electors' votes, and were planning to send in false electoral votes.
