There's only one floating pile of garbage in this story and it lives in Mar a Lago.

To Kamala Harris and all the other Democratic candidates on the ballot - May your courage, determination and hard work bring you the success you deserve. ❤️
To Donald (Jessica) Trump - May you get everything you deserve... and then some.

Bezos had multiple affairs and was on those flights.
It still amazes me that the contents of the little black book have not been leaked
as who flew with who and how old each set of girls were
could end several careers

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/11/2024 16:49

Just not Trump's, apparently. He never wakes up with fleas.

Trump is speaking just now in North Carolina - "all of the swing states are polling for us and it's ours to lose"😩

All the polling companies are being paid by the Republicans to do polls in the swing states. Whatever the results it’s ours to lose.

Surely the orange can’t win!

I genuinely think Melania is a deep cover Russian mole. If she is, that poor woman deserves the Order of Lenin, millions in compensation and a hell of a lot of therapy.

HunsandRoses · 04/11/2024 17:56

Also the only reason she is now supporting him is its looking very shaking financially for Trump if he loses and the DJT stock tanks before he can sell.

She is literally doing it for Barron's inheritance, which I believe she is constantly renegotiating.

Bet Christmas round their house is fun 😂

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/11/2024 18:00

That might explain Melania's openly expressed contempt for Christmas.

I'm already getting that feeling that I get when I'm very nervous/anxious about something and start to have an inability to function. I'll have to get lots done this evening because I won't be fit for much tomorrow; zombie mode is my default on these occasions.

TomPinch · 04/11/2024 18:22

Evangelical Christians have been mentioned in this thread. They were the mainstay of George W Bush's support and I would argue that he was an even more disastrous president than Trump. Bush stopped meaningful action to combat climate change when it could have made a difference, and he invaded Iraq and Afghanistan.

I can't remember where I read this but apparently evangelical Christianity is in decline, and the typical Trump supporter might regard himself as Christian but not actually go to church. It's purely a cultural thing with all the genuine stuff hollowed out. It makes sense: this is the person whose 'Trump Bible' would be regarded as blasphemous by a standard Evangelical Christian of twenty years ago.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/11/2024 18:26

I think the trouble is the feeling of helplessness, which is that much worse if (like me) you don't even live where you might make a difference however tiny.

But so long as you have voted if you live in the States, or intend to vote asap, you are in the same boat as I am: there is nothing left that you can do to alter the outcome. It's hell, but managing to do other things for an hour at a time rather than watch/listen to the whole thing is less shredding for the nerves. (There are heaps of books on Project Gutenberg that are more than seventy years old but still worth reading, free: some are very obscure and now is a good time to browse the site and choose one at random. As a for instance. Last time, I got one about early settlement in the US which was so fascinating that I got quite caught up in it and ended up finishing it after I no longer needed to.)

Can anyone recall at what point in the 2020 election Georgia went blue? It was such a heartwarming shock, and it wasn't predicted. This kind of thing gives me hope so I'm desperate to find it in a timeline, but Google isn't helping.

Wikipedia suggests Friday.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_United_States_presidential_election_in_Georgia

"Like in other states, Trump had an early lead on election night due to the state counting in-person votes first on that day, before counting mail-in ballots over the following days. Biden subsequently cut into Trump's margin over the course of the week and eventually overtook Trump on Friday morning. "

I think it's very important for us all to remember that this is not all going to be over on Wednesday, nor on Thursday, nor maybe this month or even next. Thinking "Oh well I can relax on (x day)" is likely to make things worse for us.

BruceAndNosh · 04/11/2024 19:35

There were legal challenges to Georgia result which required a hand recount and it was finally definitively called 16 days after the election

Thanks@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime ! Bbc reported the bulk of early votes were republican, so it's a great reminder that we have to sit this one out. I'm afraid I've not got enough wine for this.

BruceAndNosh · 04/11/2024 19:40

I think the pattern of voting is going to be quite different this time. Many more Republicans appear to have opted for early or mail in ballots this time. In 2020, Trump wanted everyone to vote on the day (to maximise the risk of covid....).
So I don't think we're going to see the early red wave with late blue surge seen last time.

CaveMum · 04/11/2024 19:41

For the last election, I found a website where the votes were noted as soon as they were dumped, I could see the totals totting up and they matched the mainstream media. Has anyone found something like this, for this election?

tobee · 04/11/2024 19:52

I've put of going on my diet for a week to cope with the stress 😬.

One year I kept to my no drinking diet on a U.K. General Election night. Wtf was I thinking? 🤨

DuncinToffee · 04/11/2024 20:02

Farage is at the Reading, Pennsylvania, rally, plenty of seats to choose from.

RafaistheKingofClay · 04/11/2024 20:09

Has he considered just moving Clacton to the US.

Also, wasn’t people associated with UK political parties going to the US to support a candidate a terrible thing the other week?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/11/2024 20:11

Only if the candidate was not Trump.
