If someone said they'd arrive between 9:00 and 9:30 - what time would you expect them?

What time?

OP posts:
CherryKefir · 01/11/2024 11:55

Any time between 9-9.30

CherryKefir · 01/11/2024 11:56

cuupe · 01/11/2024 11:02

This is what I would do

If you didn't want them to arrive at 9 surely you'd say arrive from 9.15

Are you put out they arrived early, late or not at all?

It's a bit of an odd question TBH.

ThatTealViewer · 01/11/2024 11:56

I’d expect them by half 9?

CherryKefir · 01/11/2024 11:58

This is terribly cryptic OP.

Why don't you say you're miffed because they were vey early or very late.

StressedQueen · 01/11/2024 11:58

I'd be aware of them coming by 9 so as to not be late myself. Then I'd probably be expecting them to be there by 9:30 but wouldn't mind if they came at 9:45 to be honest. Anything later without a reason is a little silly because they said they could possibly be coming at 9:05 but instead ended up coming at say 10:05!

CherryKefir · 01/11/2024 11:59

Why is this in Telly Addicts?

Stranger and stranger.....

BarbaraHoward · 01/11/2024 11:59

Yes exactly, OP needs to tell us why she was pissed off and why her guests were late. Too many hypotheticals otherwise.

AlwaysYoshi · 01/11/2024 12:00

Anytime between 9 and 9:45, but would be ready from 8:30 in case they came early…

Blondiie · 01/11/2024 12:00

Depends on the person. Me 9:30. DH 10.00, my mum 8.45, my sister 9:00, my BFF 8:57 a stranger - a bell curve rising at 8:55, peaking at 9:20 and ending at 9:40.

Getonwitit · 01/11/2024 12:01

No earlier than 09:00 and definitely no later than 09:30

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 01/11/2024 12:02

Most people anywhere between 9-9.30
My Grandad about 8.45
My best friend anywhere from 9-11 but with updates as to what was happening.

stormwarrierridesthewaves · 01/11/2024 12:03

Have they arrived yet?

Blondiie · 01/11/2024 12:03

Also depends on where they are coming from. A small village in Normandy to Inverness via car and ferry is different from a next door neighbour. And depends what you are doing - dropping something off or you have theatre tickets or are catching a train together.

jasminocereusbritannicus · 01/11/2024 12:03

Between 9 and 9:30 …anytime between those times but no later than 9:30.

SquigglePigs · 01/11/2024 12:04

For most of my family and friends it would be on the tail end of that window. A lot of them have small children so timing often runs away with them a bit. Anything up to 9.45 wouldn't bother me, later even as long as they'd messaged. I'd hate people arriving before the start of the window - I'm autistic and it always throws me off if people are early.

People travelling further are more susceptible to traffic so might be a bit after it, but they'd generally all message and let us know.

RuthW · 01/11/2024 12:04

Between 9 and 9.30. Is this a trick question?

Wigglywoowho · 01/11/2024 12:05

I'd be there early. I'm always early. Then id hang about until 9 not wanting to intrude by being early.

verityeer · 01/11/2024 12:05

I'd say this if I'd expect to arrive about 9.20, but traffic was variable. But would mean different things depending on who said it 😂

AmberAnt · 01/11/2024 12:07

I’d expect them between 9 and 9.30.

Why, what time did you expect them to arrive at???

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 01/11/2024 12:07

I'd expect about 9.20, if they have given a half hour window they've obviously got a lot of things to organise or know the traffic can vary a lot on the journey.

ApolloandDaphne · 01/11/2024 12:08

It really depends on context. How far are they travelling? What is the occasion? Is there a start time to an event?

PrettyPickle · 01/11/2024 12:09

I always make statements like that when I have no control over traffic or I am being collected or collecting someone who I cannot control etc., in which case it means what it says....I'm aiming for 9 but things outside my control may make it anytime up to 9.30. I personally would then contact you if I could, if it looked worse than I thought when I commenced the journey, and realised I would be even earlier.

MichaelandKirk · 01/11/2024 12:09

Its bloody rude if you say 0900-0930 and turn up when you like. Why state a time when you cannot manage it. Is your time more important than others?

wiesowarum · 01/11/2024 12:09

NuffSaidSam · 01/11/2024 11:04

Depends on the person.

But if you expect them a minute earlier than 9:30am and are disappointed that is entirely on you.

Why?
They said between 9 and 9.30, not after 9.30.

friendlycat · 01/11/2024 12:10

Exactly within that time frame. I would tend to be nearer to 9. I would view 9.30 as being a bit late.
