Do people use teapots in real life?

DYIDIY · 29/10/2024 16:48

I see them all the time on insta reels and in cafes obv but haven’t seen people using them in real life for ages. I’d love a nice one for myself but I think it migjt just be a waste of money and will never get used. Do you have one and use it? Any recommended ones in terms of practicality but also beauty? I quite like the clear glass ones or the black japanese looking style, not sure what they are called.

No where I drink tea uses a tea pot. I need to get new friends 😂

I keep contemplating getting one, but remembering all the dripping ones over the years puts me off.

i don't want a boring one, but I feel that ups the chances of a dripper!!

@ButtSurgery

i love yours. Any idea where it was from??

It's an enamel one - I think I bought it in a shop, but this looks like the exact same one!

Nooooooo - it mustn't go into the dishwasher EVER or the patina will get destroyed. Mine is a cheap white pot but it only gets cleaned from the outside and very carefully around the rim. For the inside, nothing more than rinsing.

Teapot crime of the century😱

DYIDIY · 29/10/2024 20:18

WOW. I am amazed to read so many of you use them regularly, you are really making me want to buy one now!
Sorry if I sound a bit silly but I don’t fully understand what it is that makes the flavour so different? Is it because in a teapot you let the tea brew much longer than in the mug but it is also more “diluted”?
And for those who have it with loose tea, do you use teapots with strainers inside?

I am not a patina fan, I'm afraid my pots look as new as the day I got them!

DYIDIY · 29/10/2024 20:19

And does a tea cosy really make a difference?

DaftyLass · 29/10/2024 20:20

I have tea balls, and strainer pots, for my loose teas, and a few I like come in bags so I use those sometimes too.
I even have a special dish, that was my grandmother's, that sits beside the pot ready to receive the used bags/tea ball/ tea basket

Iwontlethtesungodownonme · 29/10/2024 20:21

I have a teapot and cosy. Use them regularly.

housemaus · 29/10/2024 20:26

I've got a stainless steel one I inherited from DH's grandma I use when I'm working from home in winter and want multiple brews without having to venture into the cold kitchen to make them, but I don't use it otherwise (like if my mum comes round for a cup of tea or whatever).

DYIDIY · 29/10/2024 17:25

To those saying it tastes better, can I ask why? And how do yoh prepare it? Is it the water/teabag ratio?

Put in three teabags for around one mug and two or three top ups. Add boiling water. Leave to brew for a few minutes.

Tea tastes much better from a teapot. We are all tea jennies and love extra cups when having a leisurely breakfast. We also have a teapot in our campervan. Couldn’t just dunk a teabag in a mug.

Exactly. Just so common...

I use a teapot every day and have done for many years. The tea tastes fresher out of a pot. I also use loose tea and prefer the flavour over teabags.

Anyone remember Snapes tea and coffee shop in Wolverhampton? It was that shop that got me started on tea back in the 1980s.

I very much remember Snapes, my mum used to go there and so did I as a teen.

Sadly missed.

The normal teapot, if I use loose leaf I use with a tea strainer, but I also have a glass large pot from the Tea Brew Company with an inbuilt strainer.

I think the tea tastes better from a teapot, even teabags is it has much more room in the water/pot so can infuse into the water properly rather than the smaller area of a cup or mug.

Yes to a tea cosy, all the time, we also keep it on the top of the aga with the tea cosy on - never like cold or luke warm tea!

Stretchedresources · 29/10/2024 21:39

Yes. Me and DS have tea in the morning. It was from a charity shop, floral with gold accents.
I don't wash it every day. It just needs a good rinse and to air dry. Goes in the dishwasher once or twice a month.

DYIDIY · 29/10/2024 21:49

And do you guys use an electric or hob kettle?

OP posts:
Caswallonthefox · 29/10/2024 21:55

I have 4 teapots. One 2 cup teapot, one 750ml and two 1 litre. I use the 750ml one the most. I rarely use the 2 cup because its not big enough.
One of the big ones is glass and metal, I don't use that because the lid gets too hot and the other big one I inherited from my dad when he died.
I cup of tea is never enough.

DYIDIY · 29/10/2024 22:31

For those using loose tea, do you have a teapot with filter or do you have a separate tea strainer you put in?

OP posts:
Growlybear83 · 29/10/2024 22:32

If I'm using loose tea, then I use a tea strainer.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 29/10/2024 22:57

We use ours daily with loose leaf tea. Booths have good selection of different teas.

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 29/10/2024 23:05

I have about 5 in different sizes.

There’s a particular one that I use every morning for my tea. It has a metal insert for the loose tea and is a doddle to clean. It normally goes through the dishwasher about once a week.

The tea I use is M&S Extra Strong loose tea. It’s a fabulous start to the day.

suburburban · 29/10/2024 23:11

Yes always at home.

suburburban · 29/10/2024 23:13

And use a tea cosy

Love making tea in a pot

DramaAlpaca · 29/10/2024 23:38

I always make tea in a pot at home, mainly because when I have a mug of tea I always want seconds.

I have three identical stainless steel teapots in different sizes, one for just me, one for two people which allows for refills, and a fine big one for when the whole family is home.

I found the holy grail of a non-drip teapot, which is why I have three the same style. I have half a dozen decorative ones too, but they drip which is why they are only decorative.

I always use a tea cosy and never wash my teapots, just rinse them out. The patina is important to the taste. I prefer loose tea, but use tea bags most of the time.

MoonWoman69 · 30/10/2024 00:10

This is like mine and I love it! Especially with Yorkshire loose leaf tea! I don't see the point of teapots if you're going to use teabags! I have a little strainer for my leaves!
