What would you score out of 11?

  • good health
  • big (enough for your needs) house
  • job you enjoy
  • family and friends that care about you
  • kids (if you wanted them)
  • hobbies that you have time to enjoy
  • enough money to be comfortable
  • a loving marriage/partnership
  • good self esteem
  • mostly happy/content
  • enough holidays to satisfy

i am fortunate enough to have all of them besides kids, and that’s only because I didn’t want them.

All except the health. Unfortunately the bad health puts pressure on some of the others but overall I’ve been lucky. As others have said, it’s been hard to get here though!

9, but only because I am now single after two horrible marriages-and I adore having my own business, space, time and hobbies, without being put down or demoralised by walking on eggshells.

Very fortunate to have good health, loving partner and wider family, happy and healthy kids, live in a wonderful place, reasonably comfortable.money wise. Holidays pretty low key but we do have them and we love camping!

House isn't great and on the small side with never ending problems but it's not too bad, job OK and colleagues lovely but don't feel I've got far enough in my field and its not well paid, find it hard to do hobbies with 2 small children.. self esteem never been great.

This is quite a good exercise actually. Today for the first time.in my life I had some back pain whilst doing gardening and it's really made me appreciate good health. It's eased off now but will see in the morning!

AngelinaFibres · 24/10/2024 22:23

All of them. But 28 years ago absolutely no one would have swapped places with me. I appreciate my lovely life enormously.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 24/10/2024 22:31

9.5/11

Because I have family that care about me but not any friends.

changedusernameforthis1 · 24/10/2024 22:51

8...this actually made me look at my life in a better light tonight.

How depressing I'm a 2

  1. With holidays being the missing link.

Could day trips count please? Then it would be an 11.

Very fortunate. Came from poverty and heartache. (Have a few ACEs under my belt).

(Very early suddenly death of a parent/violence/poverty/alcoholism in nuclear family)

  1. Happily single and no desire to get to 11! But am in my fifties and would have scored a lot lower for most of my adult life, so am grateful.
GiddyRobin · 24/10/2024 23:20
  1. I'm very fortunate, and it's been a mixture of luck and very hard work to reach this point. I never take anything for granted, as it's definitely not always been this way. I make sure to remind myself how fortunate I am when I'm having a particularly trying day.

Eight and a half (I have family but no real friends)

Thunderpants88 · 25/10/2024 08:13

9 I don’t have hobbies I enjoy just hanging with my family and friends
holidays - I hate them so . . .

Possibly, but not necessarily. I'm waiting for major surgery for a long term health condition at the moment but I still have the other things on your list. Obviously, there's poor health and poor health but I doubt many would swap their health w mine. Luckily my condition waxes and wanes so I do get good periods and I am very much a "glass half full" person which also helps.

Yep I suppose that when you are housebound and with no treatment available, the idea that one can still work, have some hobbies, go on hols and have some of their issues solved by surgery (aka there are some treatments available) looks lush.

Thats to put in contrast with someone saying they’re not in good health because they’re overweight. Oh how would I give to be in that type of poor health!

summer3219 · 25/10/2024 08:35

9 but have no interest in a romantic relationship so just a few more holidays would make things perfect.

mamajong · 25/10/2024 08:49

10 - currently taking a sabbatical but am happy with that. I appreciate what I have because there have been times I'd have had a much lower score

fussychica · 25/10/2024 08:55

10 but only because I can't make 11 as I'm retired and that's not an option given by the OP.

HappiestSleeping · 24/10/2024 18:48

9 didn't count the children as I didn't ever want them. I am very fortunate.

Yeah it’s a bit tricky if there are things on that list you don’t actually want/need. You could reduce the overall score I guess.
