What would you score out of 11?

  • good health
  • big (enough for your needs) house
  • job you enjoy
  • family and friends that care about you
  • kids (if you wanted them)
  • hobbies that you have time to enjoy
  • enough money to be comfortable
  • a loving marriage/partnership
  • good self esteem
  • mostly happy/content
  • enough holidays to satisfy

Two- loving family and big enough house.
But house is too big and falling apart and I can't afford to keep it. I'm there BC I've nowhere else to go and am caring for my disabled elderly mum.
I would say virtually nobody would be fortunate enough to score all 11.

Sayoonara · 24/10/2024 20:38

7-8

RomeoRivers · 24/10/2024 20:40

10- I’m a happy SAHM 😊

Catterbat · 24/10/2024 20:41

Why is having a partner listed as a good thing? And where are the cats?

gmgnts · 24/10/2024 20:42

I have all 11. Very fortunate, I know - I do have my troubles, but these 11 things provide a really good buffer.

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/10/2024 20:43

3, I don't mind used to it lol

Bodeganights · 24/10/2024 20:44

10, I'm very lucky but like pps I've been through the mill previously. I do appreciate all the good things and I'm aware they could end at any time.
The only thing I'm missing is good health. And theres not much you can do about that.

Joycedelight · 24/10/2024 20:44

10 , could probably do with more holidays

MakingPlans2025 · 24/10/2024 20:45
  1. Maybe 7 when I start my new job next week.
ComingBackHome · 24/10/2024 20:45

4 at a push.

The reality is that if you dint have your health, you lose

  • a job you love
  • being financially comfortable
  • friends and often family
  • hobbies and hols
  • MH is getting a beating etc….
Inextremis · 24/10/2024 20:46
  • good health - yep, so far (am 65)
  • big (enough for your needs) house - yes, though it's tiny, it's enough, and there's half an acre of wasteland attached!
  • job you enjoy - yes, 'cos I'm retired
  • family and friends that care about you - DH and a few friends, it's enough
  • kids (if you wanted them) - never wanted them, no regrets
  • hobbies that you have time to enjoy - yes, many!
  • enough money to be comfortable - enough not to worry about bills, not a massive amount though
  • a loving marriage/partnership - yes :D
  • good self esteem - yeah, I'm alright, I am :)
  • mostly happy/content - yep
  • enough holidays to satisfy - never go on holiday 'cos we moved to the only place I ever wanted to holiday in.

That's sort of 11, there's no aspect of my life that I'm not happy with, though it's far from luxurious or special in any way.

Courgettesandonions · 24/10/2024 20:46

11, but my needs are very small and I think my level of expectation is fairly low (ie. Live in a small cheap flat but one that is plenty big enough for me). I feel very lucky to have good health and good relationships.

KingOfPeace · 24/10/2024 20:48

11, maybe 10, I've no major health concerns but possibly could be better. Actually I don't enjoy my job either but there's nothing else is target do for similar terms. So maybe 9.

It is subjective though. Big enough house and enough money mean different things to everyone. I know my friends consider my house small and it was years after dc3 that people stopped asking us when we were going to size up.

OldTinHat · 24/10/2024 20:48

Three.

tediber · 24/10/2024 20:50

10 out of 11 I have no time for hobbies at the moment.

GoForARun · 24/10/2024 20:51

No job - I'm a housewife by choice.

I have been blessed in many ways and I don't take it for granted.

I wonder if optimists give higher numbers than pessimists.

I wondered that too. I gave my score as 11 but then doubted myself when someone said else said they didn't have good health because they were overweight. I am too but I suppose I was thinking of "good health" meaning I'm mobile, can do the things I want to do, don't need any medication, feel well etc etc.

I am an optimistic person and also very laid back. I like the simple things e.g. I have time for hobbies but my hobbies are reading, doing crosswords and going for a walk!

Some of these things are definitely luck. I was fortunate to be born into a loving family, to have good health (but I'm aware that could change at any moment) and to have been able to have my DDs.

Some of it is judgement. I married the quiet, geeky, kind boy I met at University who has turned out to be the absolute best husband and life partner and now earns very well so money isn't an issue etc.

A lot of it is mindset. Looking on the bright side and appreciating what you have. But I'm fully aware I say this from a position of being very lucky, and that other people have a harder path.

AllTheOtherCats · 24/10/2024 20:54

I agree with @Catterbat. I don't want a partner and have never wanted children so I already 'lose' two points in that list. But I have my cats and they're what's important to me!!

Possibly, but not necessarily. I'm waiting for major surgery for a long term health condition at the moment but I still have the other things on your list. Obviously, there's poor health and poor health but I doubt many would swap their health w mine. Luckily my condition waxes and wanes so I do get good periods and I am very much a "glass half full" person which also helps.

widelegenes · 24/10/2024 21:01

10
I'm not married or in a relationship, nor do I want to be. So IMO I get top score.
It's good to be reminded that I am in such a good position (by good fortune and my own choices).

SoMentallyDrained · 24/10/2024 21:02

5.5 the half is down to a couple of family members who care about me, but 0 friends. I'm happy though

lljkk · 24/10/2024 21:02

10/11. The one I'm 'missing' I don't miss, I don't mind at all.

GreatTheCat · 24/10/2024 21:02

Id swap my health for any of the others.

Also single, but I want to be.

widelegenes · 24/10/2024 21:03

Mind you, if you'd asked me a few years ago, I would have scored much lower (bad divorce and subsequent poor MH).

Bubblebuttress · 24/10/2024 21:03

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 24/10/2024 18:50

One ish.

Oh no, would you like to share. Sorry to hear this. Hugs
