What would you score out of 11?

  • good health
  • big (enough for your needs) house
  • job you enjoy
  • family and friends that care about you
  • kids (if you wanted them)
  • hobbies that you have time to enjoy
  • enough money to be comfortable
  • a loving marriage/partnership
  • good self esteem
  • mostly happy/content
  • enough holidays to satisfy

I score pretty high, but I would temper some of the points. For ex I enjoy my job day to day but it's not a career and I'm embarrassed at how I've not built one up despite having 2 degrees... And although I have kids, they are both ND and the parenting experience I have with them is not what I expected having kids would be like (and the reason I am limited in what I can do work wise).

Giggorata · 24/10/2024 21:06

9 and I am content.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 24/10/2024 21:08

10/11. I am fortunate to live in a house where I have rooms that I can easily close the door to and not need to enter for a good long time! However, I would swap that in a hot minute for not suffering with the back pain I’ve endured for my entire adult life.

Idontthinkilovehimanymore · 24/10/2024 21:10

I feel quite sad about that...I wanted more at this stage in my life

Tana433 · 24/10/2024 21:12

Got the kids and the marriage. Don't have to worry about money, which is a huge plus. Got a job I enjoy, but to be frank I'm a part time band 2, and no where close to my potential. I considered giving myself a half point in friends and family, as I don't really have any of the former (mostly acquaintances), and I'm not especially close to anyone from the later. But they would all care if I was sick, injured or in trouble, so I think it counts.

Not in the best health. Or shape/weight to be brutally honest. We are certainly not in a big enough house for our needs, but hopefully this time 2 years from now (staying put for catchment reasons, but hoping we'll find a larger house within catchment), we will be. Time for hobbies? LOL. I have two small children. My life revolves around their hobbies. Been sitting at zero self esteem for most of my life. I've failed at everything I've ever tried, so not undeserved. I am sometimes happy and content, but certainly not mostly. Enough holidays? Too stressful to even contemplate right now. Once a year is usually enough, but we didn't go on one this year, and there's nothing planned for next year so...

Preppingpenguin · 24/10/2024 21:14

My health isn't great but it's manageable.
We don't go on holiday due to a number of factors but I hope to make it possible soon

getdesr · 24/10/2024 21:17

I have 8. No job as I'm a sahm and happy with that. No time for hobbies as I choose not to while my youngest is ao young (but I'll have time when she starts ft nursery next year). I have family who care about me, but no friends, and I've made my peace with that.

Feellikeafailurenow · 24/10/2024 21:19

i’ve been a sahm (a choice i made giving up my career) for 14 years. Looking to get back to part time work now my kids are older.

holidays we don’t get enough of due to one wage but lucky enough to still be able to get away and have family time while on the one wage even if some of them are weeks in a caravan.

so i don’t see either of those 2 as “missing” from the list because it’s a choice and working full time would come with other sacarafices.

main one is i have no family (bar husband and kids) as parents & grandparents dead. No in lawss either & don’t get on with my sister.

on the whole though i’m lucky / happy enough with my lot.

10.5, I am very fortunate in all respects but I would have loved children as much as I love my child....

Bellyblueboy · 24/10/2024 21:34

Eight. And that’s brilliant.

Nine if I’m allowed to say I didn’t want kids 😊

NotMeNoNo · 24/10/2024 21:37

10 i think. I'm really lucky but still somehow feel I've failed at life by being fat. (despite Herculean effort). I agree with PP I should count my blessings more.

Beezknees · 24/10/2024 21:38

I am a low earner so I wouldn't say I'm in a "comfortable" financial situation - day to day I don't struggle, I can pay the bills but I have no assets (I rent, not a homeowner) and not much pension.

I also don't have a partner, but I don't actually want one so that's not something I'm aspiring to and wouldn't have it on my list.

Everything else I have.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 24/10/2024 21:48

11, although has been a 5 at various times in the past.

KarmaKat · 24/10/2024 21:49

10, sometimes 9.5 if my chronic illness plays up

Very grateful to be able to say 10

AlwaysGinPlease · 24/10/2024 22:00

Very happy and grateful to say, at the moment, 10, but there have been times when it's less.

Borris · 24/10/2024 22:02

AllTheChaos · 24/10/2024 22:03

Pre Parkinson’s it was 5, now 2.
