Can't believe what happened... was l in the right?

Went to IKEA today... hardly any trolleys in the trolley bay .. but just manage to get last one.
I put my walking stick in the trolley.
Needed loo.. went to disabled loo..( l have a stoma). left my trolley outside with my walking stick in.. thinking surely no one will take my trolley.
Comes out of loo and trolley is gone.
Asks the security guy and a member of staff I'd they had seen it/ moved it.. they hadn't.
So l start walking... to look for it..
See a woman in the next section pushing my trolley .. with some items she had put in.
I explain she has my trolley with my walking stick in.
She looks at me like I'm mad but doesn't say a word. Takes out my walking stick and hands it to me.
I say.. " can you please take your items out of my trolley and let me have it back please".
She huffs and puffs.. but doesn't speak. Put her items into her friends trolley and pushes my trolley to me so hard it bangs into me.

Who in their right mind just takes a trolley that clearly has someone else's property inside it?? So very odd.

CheerfulBunny · 22/10/2024 23:33

I'm so torn between being horrified that twats are defending someone taking a trolley and walking stick from an innocent woman using a toilet and enjoying the whole genius IKEA Jesus thing.

Livelaughlurgy · 22/10/2024 23:33

Whatever about forgiving her for taking the trolly or not noticing where it was "abandoned" or the walking stick. Surely upon being confronted you'd melt into a puddle of mortification and apologise and not try maim the victim.

CandyRaining · 22/10/2024 23:34

Those people saying it was okay to steal the trolley are genuinely making me fear the state of humanity. And they’re teachers and nurses? Fuck me.

Dead proud of you - well done 👏

The nerve of these chancers !

She thought someone had discarded their walking stick after being magically healed by IKEA Jesus and thought she could maybe take it home with her?

This made me laugh out loud 😂

Yes. Yes he is. Praise be. Pass the holy meatballs.

Have some of you not been to Ikea before? It doesn't work like a normal shop. The cafe and toilets are usually midway round. You can only get trolleys at the beginning. Everyone leaves their trolleys parked up by the cafe/loos. I think it's even labelled "trolley park"? Ideally OP would have stuffed a few random items in there to more clearly bagsy it but no matter, her behaviour was entirely in keeping with Ikea norms and YANBU etc

Circumferences · 22/10/2024 23:43

I always wondered why a drink of water at IKEA cafe got me pissed.

I'm in Ikea all the time, why hasn't Ikea Jesus cured me? Is it because I don't like the holy meatballs?

That was a completely shitty thing for that person to do OP. Trolley theft is bad enough, but taking off with a trolley with a walking stick in it says all you need to know about that person, let alone her pushing it into you after she was called on it. As for some of the replys on thread, unfortunately they show that there are a lot of self entitled wankers out their that think their needs come first no matter what. Sad to see so many of them on here.

OK your coat is also on the back of the chair. Do you think that's acceptable for someone to sit in your seat

Edited

That's more a marker that someone is still there and has just got up, so no, I wouldn't sit there then. Would wonder if someone had forgotten their coat, but wouldn't assume it.

Just leaving food on the table - risky.

ps - you're more trusting than me. I'd not trust that someone wouldn't steal my coat. I'm not getting up till I'm done unless someone is with me to keep an eye on things.

At my IKEA the trolleys are also halfway around. You can just get bags at the top level.

Are you for real?!

Cam29 · 22/10/2024 23:50

Attelina · 22/10/2024 22:43

You left the trolley unattended and a walking stick is not a right to claim it as being yours.

The woman took it believing it had been discarded.

She gave it back to you when you told her what has happened.

Hardly worth creating a big drama out of it.

In future, go to the toilet before collecting a trolley.

Oh come on! A walking stick in a trolly left outside the disabled toilet? You’d have to be pretty stupid to not realise it belonged to someone … or not stupid at all and just ignorant which is exactly what the woman sounded like.

rosyvalentine · 22/10/2024 23:53

My trolley was also robbed in IKEA with stuff in it 🤷‍♀️

BanksysSprayCan · 22/10/2024 23:56

Yep, if there is a trolley with a walking stick in it outside of a disabled loo, any rational person would think that it’s owner had been suddenly in need of said loo, and would re-emerge soon to reclaim their trolley!

Shoppedatwoolworths · 22/10/2024 23:59

Of course you were not in the wrong.

Some people are so fucking selfish it’s unreal. Seems some of those selfish, entitled people in life have already responded to this thread. Very telling.

As if someone just walked off with your walking stick too. Unbelievable.

DinosaurMunch · 22/10/2024 23:59

Next time leave something a bit disgusting in it like half eaten meatball to put off potential trolley thieves

Hog it? Blimey . I do hope you never have to have a stoma one day. You clearly have no idea what this entails .

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 23/10/2024 00:13

I can't help thinking leaving a walking stick in an otherwise empty and unused trolley is the equivalent of leaving a towel on an unused sunbed. Very un-English and annoying. Surely the more reasonable thing to do would be go to the loo with the aid of your walking stick and then seek out a trolley.

HelloYouGuys · 23/10/2024 00:14

In case you didn't know, op might not have known she needed the lav before she took a trolley.
Having a stoma can make toilet needs very different from people without.
To me... the op left her trolley outside a loo, coz as another pp said, it's probably impossible to take it in with you unless it's a larger disabled toilet.
To me it seems blatantly obvious that a trolley outside a convenience, housing a walking stick, screams that it's a "taken" trolley.
OP I'm sorry you were put through this.

Nameinspirationneeded · 23/10/2024 00:14

Yanbu sorry that happened to you OP.
The rest of the thread with Ikea Jesus is just what I needed though.
