Speed camera detectors

Can anyone recommend a good one?

I’ve been looking online and I can’t really find one with good reviews! All seem a bit mediocre.

In the nicest possible way, I am not looking for people to say not to speed! I am fully in agreement about this. This is for DH who has now got 6 points on his licence and I don’t want him to get anymore!

Thanks in advance!

Waze always tells you if there's a speed camera ahead, or police about!

Orchidflower1 · 21/10/2024 05:37

Yes, you may not like it but the easiest way for your DH to not get more points is———
DONT Speed!! Clearly he needs to change his driving style. If he doesn’t then he deserves the points. I know that’s not what you’re looking for but it’s the truth.

HelplessSoul · 21/10/2024 05:44

"This is for DH who has now got 6 points on his licence and I don’t want him to get anymore!"

Clearly, he hasnt learnt his lesson.

The roads will be safer when he is banned. Him and other speedsters included.

These are not as prevalent as they used to be as the technology of the speed traps has changed. Most people get done in average speed zones which are signed so you know they are there and a detector wouldn't help. The mobile ones are lasers now and the detector would only pick up that there's a speed trap after you've been done.

As PP have said, there is a better way of not getting done for speeding......

It's not just speed cameras that clobber you for speeding, the traffic police will too and if they are in unmarked cars, all the harder to spot.

He just needs to slow down.

SinnerBoy · 21/10/2024 06:33

There's the tried and tested Mark 1 Eyeball.

How to use: Observe roadside speed limit signs. Observe the speedometer periodically and adjust speed downwards, if necessary. Observe the road in general and be sure to spot camera signs and cameras.

Anyway, satnavs have them, as well as on screen speed limit displays & warning pings, for if you go over the limit.

Ridiculous comment. I have six points. I was caught twice on the same road within 3 days. I was doing 34 both times. Until the week before the road had been a 40 and it was changed without me realising (the 40 sign was taken down rather than a 39 sign going up). Am I to be done for attempted murder too?

100% this.

Is this post for real?!😂😂😂😂

isodontknow · 21/10/2024 06:40

@user8754387 No, I think that's different. You didn't go out of your way to try to find a device that would warn you of speed cameras. OP is saying her DH is planning to speed before he even gets in the car.

wiesowarum · 21/10/2024 06:40

Bottom line, whether you want to hear it or not, DH needs to stop speeding. If he already has 6 points and is looking for more ways to still speed without being caught, then he doesn't belong on the road or deserve a license. You must see that.

muddyford · 21/10/2024 06:40

I thought these were illegal, but I could be wrong.

It's up to drivers to 'realise' that a speed limit has been changed. There would have been signs.

Im not saying I wasn’t in the wrong. I’m asking whether I should be charged with attempted murder as per the ridiculous comment.

Well, are you now driving around with a device to allow you only to stick to the speed limit where there a camera ?

isodontknow · 21/10/2024 06:54

I don't see why its so ridiculous, it's pre-meditated breaking of the law which could have fatal consequences. You accept those consequences when you plan to speed.

I'm assuming you didn't say to yourself before getting in the car "well, its ridiculous they've changed the speed there, I'm going to do 40 there anyway." From what you've said it was more of an "oh shit this bit isn't 40 any more" which to me is different as you weren't intending to speed before you got there.

I now have a dash cam which has the speed limits up on the screen yes

Edited

It wasn’t even vaguely pre meditated. Neither was it pre meditated intention to kill

I don't have a dash cam so don't know, is it the same thing as a speed camera detector?

Maybe I was giving the OP too much credit by assuming that the obvious solutions of sat navs or map apps with speed limits onviously weren't enough for a man who can't link the number of the speed limit with the number of mph displayed on the dashboard

Coconutter24 · 21/10/2024 07:04

This is for DH who has now got 6 points on his licence and I don’t want him to get anymore!

So what is the intention? To carry on speeding then slow down when there is a camera?

In the nicest possible way, I am not looking for people to say not to speed!

Well that is the most obvious thing to avoid any more points isn’t it! He needs to change his driving habits. You’re looking at buying something to detect cameras, so he clearly drives with no care of his speed

isodontknow · 21/10/2024 07:05

@user8754387 That's what I mean, that's why OP's DH is different. He is planning to speed and is looking for ways he won't get caught. He is wilfully deciding to break the law, knowing he could kill someone if he causes an accident. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that in Germany you can be charged with murder if you cause an accident whilst racing (excessive speeding).

Daschund · 21/10/2024 07:05

Most modern cars tell you where the fixed ones are now now. Waze and the like can tell you of the mobile ones but only once they've been updated. No way would I put a device on my car to detect them.
A local businessman was caught, he lost his driving licence and was savaged not only financially but the police/courts released the story just after an awful fatal crash involving children. It's years ago now and I clearly remember his name; all because he thought the law didn't apply to him.

Was there no temporary speed signs? Seems odd they wouldn’t put temporary speed sign up as they usually do

spuddy4 · 21/10/2024 07:16

So many perfect drivers on MN. I got caught doing 46 on a duel carriageway, the speed limit on one side is 50mph but on the other side 40mph, it's caught loads of people out in my area.
