Maybe a character you liked originally or were indifferent to? I'm rewatching Dexter and, omfg, Debra is so damn annoying and pathetic, not to mention bad at her job!

Surely the other 2 male characters are worse. Ross is kinda victim like

The whole of Friends comes across as pretty dodgy these days. Lots of homophobia and misogyny.

Sex and the city for me.

Loved it when I was younger but saw a couple of episodes a couple of years ago and just thought Carrie was fucking awful!

They’re all fucking awful! I used to love it - loved all the fashion and thought they were this bunch of self-assured, glamorous women living life on their own terms.

On second viewing they’re a bunch of whiny, rich arseholes, oblivious in their bubble of consumption and self-absorption. And far from being a portrait of female friendship there’s virtually not a single scene in the entirety of the show that would pass the Bechdel Test.

Even if you try to view it as a bit of period froth and fun, some of the casually racist and poverty-shaming comments are jaw-dropping from today’s POV. It’s loathsome.

Manchesterbythesea · 21/10/2024 08:13

Re-watching Lost and I despise Ana-Lucia. Now after last nights episode in season 2 I hate her even more. Won’t say anymore incase of spoiling it for anyone.
Also Ross in Friends. He’s pathetic.

Oh and everyone in Grease is awful. Every. Single. One.

The whole premise is awful!
Loved that film so much growing up 💖

Telepathickitty · 21/10/2024 08:20

Currently re-watching Frasier.

When I watched it before as a teen I thought Daphne was kooky and free spirited but on watching it again her character seems really poorly developed (only on season 4 so maybe it will improve). She's just a prop for the other characters and most of the time extremely vacuous and dumb. Then occasionally, when it suits the story, they give her a bit of wisdom. It's all just a bit contrived and she's an uncomfortable character to watch.

Gosh, I go do a few hours work and BOOM! 😂 Quite a few mentioned Riley from Buffy. Now I can't decide if to rewatch it or if to protect and cherish the memory. Maybe some things are not meant to be rewatched.

Rewatch it. Savour the sex scene with riley and buffy’s big brown boots.

FancyRedRobin · 21/10/2024 08:24

The Durrells, all of them without exception.
All the chaps in the Big Bang theory, toxic men. Link which makes it really clear.
Frasier and Niles.

Xander from Buffy, especially seasons 1-3 - he is so awful! I used to think he was funny as a teen but on a rewatch he is so bitter that Buffy didn’t feel the same way! Special mention also to Angel (why would he find a 16 year old attractive) and Riley (a walking red flag!)

Agreed. Xander always gave Buffy a hard time and was such a dick to her.

youcandomagic · 21/10/2024 08:31

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 20/10/2024 21:22

Totally.

There's a point where you realise "Shit! He was evil from episode 1"

So agree!!!

Carrie in SATC is hideous years later

Absolutely this I used to think it would be cool to be the Carrie of the group, now I am the same age as the I can see Samantha was right all along!

Buffypaws · 21/10/2024 08:32

I agree with Xander and Angel on rewatch. Pair of dicks. Spike improves. He is a twat but he is there for a Buffy in a way Angel never is. Riley was awful first time round. Everyone always hated him. Possibly because he was a poor substitute for Angel. Possibly because he was boring af and a bit of a cunt.

See, I liked Spike in season 2 but grew to dislike him over the rest of the series. Unpopular opinion but I don't like the Spike and Buffy relationship.

JD in Scrubs. He is a whiny, ridiculous man child. If I was Dr Cox I would have snapped and strangled him after 8 years of the puppy dog eyes and constant need for validation.

I watched an episode a few years ago where he is speaking to the woman at the hospital shop. He asks if she is new, and she says she has been working there for ages. Then Carla (nurse) says that he doesn't notice any women with a wedding ring. Suddenly all the women take off their wedding rings and there are loads of them. Its framed like he is a good guy becuase he has boundaries but... just yuk...

the Brendan Fraser episode killed me though.

Yes.

Lorelei Gilmore!

She's not the cool mom

She's TERRIBLE

I've rewatched it enough to sympathise with Emily

YES!!!!! Luke too

Also Xander from Buffy the vampire slayer, thought he was funny back in the day but rewatching is as an adult he is just awful!

Meredith from Grey's anatomy- whiny and annoying

honeylulu · 21/10/2024 09:02

Film rather than TV series but ... Mary Poppins. Watched and loved the film as a primary school child, thought she was a bit bossy but didn't think on it further. Watched several years later, maybe late teens and thought OMG she's a monster. Totally conceited and gaslights the poor kids making out they are lying when they delightedly tell their parents about the tea party on the ceiling when it is she who is the liar. They look so utterly crushed and crestfallen. Nasty bitch. (I feel very strongly about this one! )

I agree about Walter White as he seems so ordinary at the beginning and I bought into rooting for him. He is totally psychopathic and dislikeable by the end but that built up gradually and by then I was committed to the journey as it were. I haven't rewatched but I have a feeling I'd feel differently about the early seasons now.

This Life. When I saw it first time round I really disliked Anna, she seemed so selfish and annoying. Watched again subsequently and found her much more complex and worthy of empathy.

Thischangeseverything · 21/10/2024 09:06

Phoebe from Friends. She's actually really bitchy a lot.

I also forgot until I watched it again how short a time Rachel and Ross were actually together. Ross was so annoying.

wonderings2 · 21/10/2024 09:10

Has a stint of watching C4 during mat leave/lockdown...

Everyone loves Raymond - Marie is awful and Raymond just as bad
Frasier - Still love it tbh but he's an awful pedantic snob.

I watched the first couple of series of Dawsons Creek as a teen and my sister convinced me to watcht he rest, I though it was be cringy but I enjoyed it far more than I expected

Leopardprintlover101 · 21/10/2024 09:17

Both Tom and Lynette in Desperate Housewives. I thought he was trying his best and she was hard on him. Looking back now I think he is useless and a drip, and she is a total moan - stop complaining that your life is hard with those many children that you decided to have and keep on having! She takes no responsibility for herself and it’s infuriating.

Not a character but Vicky Pattison. I liked her best on Geordie Shore - I thought she was bright and didn’t take any shit. Looking back at it now she was the ultimate “pick me” girl and totally infuriating. Her behaviour was genuinely disgusting (she actually spat at people!!) and I still don’t think she’s outgrown the “pick me” behaviour with all these male “best friends” and a string of failed engagements.

We really disliked Deb from the very beginning.

cwcanfo · 21/10/2024 09:23

Like lots of other people on here, various characters from Greys.
I thought George was lovely first time round. Second time I see him as a manipulative creep and a cheat.
I thought Derek was gorgeous and lovely but the second watching reveals him as a nasty piece of work.
On the other hand I've warmed to Alex and Sloan more.

Ross from friends is another one. When I first watched it I was all Team Ross wanting him to get the girl but actually he was just awful and the sort of man I avoid at all costs these days.

Shangrilalala · 21/10/2024 09:23

Joining the Meredith/McDreamy queue. Back in the day, I wanted to view my partnership with (now) DH, like them. I guess I was swayed by his good hair. The madness of youth… Now, grown up me is entranced with the delicious Mark Sloan and Addison, brilliant characters both.

Also Julia from Motherland. I thought she was kick ass and empathised with her eternal failure to sit at the Big Table. Now I realise she was just disorganised, mean spirited and a user.

ladygindiva · 21/10/2024 09:24

Yup. Carrie from sex and the city. . On the flip side I like Miranda more the older I get ( not in ajlt though)

HornyHornersPinger · 21/10/2024 09:26

You know Dexter is married to Deb in real life, right? So he puts up with her literally ALL the time... No wonder he kills people 🤣
