Acceptable ‘birthday’ cake?

I offered to bake my husband a birthday cake. He asked for no icing and something a bit different. So I went for a pineapple upside down cake.

I’m 50% happy with it and 50% thinking it doesn’t look like a ‘celebration’ cake. I’ll probably pop to the store and grab a decorated one to go with it. We’re off to lunch with family today to celebrate.

Do you think it’s ok? Or wild you keep it for a at home dessert and just get a bigger cake at the store? DH hasn’t seen it yet; he’ll tell me it’s great…anything to avoid having to stop at the shop.

It’s not a huge deal, but some unbiased advice would be appreciated. I completely understand if you don’t feel it says ‘birthday’.

It’s lovely, better than a shop bought icing covered cake.

I would be delighted with your cake as a birthday cake and it absolutely does look like a celebration cake. You’ve piped the cream and everything! Very impressed!

It's got a heart in cherries (?) in it! You'd have to have a heart of stone yourself but to appreciate that birthday cake.

I'd be delighted with that, much better than shop bought. You don't need two cakes, that is more than enough.

It’s supposed to be a pineapple heart filled with cherries for colour. A bit naff, but I thought it was cute. Sadly the pineapple heart isn’t showing as much as I’d like.

You only need another if that one really isn't big enough to serve everyone a reasonable slice

There’s 8 people going to the meal. It’s quite chunky.

No, I think any shop bought cake is going to pale in comparison to that beauty. 😊

Why would it be mean to not buy a shop brought generic iced cake? Can you feed everyone a slice? Id LOVE that as my birthday cake!

I love homemade cakes and can't stand icing in any form so this is right up my street.

I'd be tempted to buy him the cheapest crap cake from the shops and then eat this one by myself tonight, and not offer him even a crumb! 😉😂

Birthday cakes normally have that lovely decoration don’t they. I do love a proper birthday cake.
