Just cloud here- Sth East. Where are you OP?

Windy1234 · 10/10/2024 20:06

Sorry if this is daft but those of you who can't see anything, are you looking through your phone lenses? I didn't realise at first that this is not how they look to the naked eye

TheDandyLion · 10/10/2024 20:14

Can't quite see them but did catch a shooting star. It's the orionids tonight. Thanks for the reminder op.

TokyoSushi · 10/10/2024 20:15

Ooh, a tiny pinkish, greenish hue in Warrington, nowhere near the same as 'that day' but a teeny bit of something!

Cherrysoup · 10/10/2024 20:17

Slight pink tinge in Herts but the fucking neighbour just put on his ‘Escaped prisoners’ searchlight which bathes everyone’s garden for 100ft in all directions. Wankers.

igivein · 10/10/2024 20:18

County Durham
Thanks so much for the heads up - I’ve been trying to see this for years!

I have one of those neighbours too, @Cherrysoup
I hate to think what their electricity bill is like.

Monvelo · 10/10/2024 20:19

Yes use your phone camera, use night mode with up to 10 second exposure and put the iso up if you have the option.

Seems to cloudy here in Gloucestershire unfortunately.

Me neither. I wish someone could explain it to me like I was a 10 year old. Why can my phone camera see it but I can’t.

Speccytwit · 10/10/2024 20:19

Too cloudy here in West Yorkshire

Fuck knows, I can't leave the bathroom door open or it shines in the bedroom.

Visible here in Nottingham! Peak is apparently at 4am, just as I leave for work so I'm very excited!

Humans don't see as well as cameras in the dark, basically

As far south as Carmarthen...

They do look like that to the naked eye in some places e.g. Iceland, Norway etc. Absolutely breath-taking, and watching them move and change colour and shape is mesmerising, despite the near-frostbite!
