Autumn seems to have gone straight into winter. It's cold, wet and windy. In the TalkLair, the hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them). The denizens of the lair are a welcoming bunch though, always eager for general chit-chat on all manner of topics.

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Thanks all. We.knew the op was a big risk, but I think would have felt worse if we'd not tried (and this might all have happened anyway - his heart function was only about 1/3 what it should have been even before surgery).

Not much light at all today, especially by 3.30pm but I wanted to try and capture the colours at work. It's all looking so lovely at the moment and the lack of wind is keeping the leaves on for longer than usual.

Looks beautiful @Vegemiteandhoneyontoast. It did feel unusually dark today. There was fog and mizzle when I was driving home over the Downs tonight, it was very Wuthering Heights.

Both my step sisters live close so they're all looking after each other. And Step PaBint has all the good drugs, so he's comfortable.

Lovely autumn leaves. Most of ours have fallen now, but there's still a small splash of brightness from a couple of the blueberry bushes.

They will keep him comfortable and on the best meds, I saw that sort of thing in motion when I was an inpatient at Guildford. It will be peaceful but I'm so sorry it's all come about so suddenly after the uplift of some hope.

And to lighten the mood (sorry USAians)...

My friends here are all as stunned and disheartened as I am.

I got home at 9:30 last night, which my body clock told me was 2:30am, and went to bed and slept by 10ish. However it's now 3:30am and I'm wide awake because my body thinks it's morning. Jet lag takes me a bit longer to get over going east to west than the other way.

StepPaBint died very quietly this morning. Mum and both his daughters were there.
