Thread 14 - TalkLair: “What The Hell Are We Supposed To Use, Man? Harsh Language?”

1000 replies

Kucinghitam · 09/07/2024 18:27

(Previous thread 13).

Summer should be well under way, but the chilly wind, grey clouds and pouring rain beg to differ. Looks like 2024 continues to be a washout - on the bright side, the Tories got washed out too! In the TalkLair, we remain hunkered down keeping cosy and warm. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Thank you, Kuc!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 09/07/2024 19:06

I only have 1 day of work left!

DeanElderberry · 09/07/2024 19:53

Spend it being idle and obstructive, but also utterly charming and pleasant to people, so that you leave them thoroughly confused.

TheyMostlyComeOutAtNightMostly · 09/07/2024 20:04

I'm not a regular, but just popping by to congratulate you on your excellent thread naming.

DeanElderberry · 09/07/2024 20:09

You are welcome to become a regular, we're (a bit) discriminating as to whose gnawed bones end up in the corners.

Kucinghitam · 09/07/2024 20:39

Do feel free to join us! There's no thread theme, just a long meandering ongoing conversation about random stuff. Cats, dogs and recipes particularly welcome.

I like this plan.

Although I'm not sure it's all that different from my usual.working pattern.

For those who've not seen it on the other thread, there is bad Mouse news. She's in surgery tonight.

weaseleyes · 10/07/2024 10:54

Congrats to bint on her new life of ambiguous idleness

Britinme · 10/07/2024 12:59

Any further news on Mouse? She's on my mind.

duc748 · 10/07/2024 13:16

I highly recommend ambiguous idleness.

SinnerBoy · 10/07/2024 13:29

Poor Mouse, I hope she's going to be OK.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 10/07/2024 14:40

Mouse got through the surgery, and is in ITU. Will probably know more this afternoon.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 10/07/2024 17:27

Mouse is awake. I suspect she'll be in ITU for a while after that sort of op, but definitely heading in the right direction.

I'm hoping that while they were in there doing repairs they were also able to take out the bits that needed removing at the same time.

Kucinghitam · 10/07/2024 18:28

That's good news Bint, thanks so much for keeping us updated!

Credit goes to Snoop and Imps - I'm just a small relay in the chain.

Britinme · 10/07/2024 18:41

Thanks Bint - good to know she came through it OK. Fingers crossed that it will help her a lot. Imps = Impedimenta from the old place? She isn't here is she?

SqueakyDinosaur · 10/07/2024 20:13

I don't think so, but several of us are still in touch, and I post in both places as do a couple of others.

SinnerBoy · 11/07/2024 06:40

I'm glad to hear that Mouse had a successful operation and wish her a speedy recovery.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 11/07/2024 07:46

Thanks for the new thread (14, gosh!) and for Mouse News.

I went to the The Killers concert at the O2 last night - it was a really good concert, with a fantastic light/video show.

And, as the Euros semi final went into injury time, they stopped singing and showed the match. 50,000 people all willing the whistle to blow while we were 2-1 up... When it did blow, they blew out red blue and white confetti at the concert and streamers, and went straight into Mr Brighside. And the drummer put on an England t shirt.

Just read the news on lovely Mouse, she so desperately needs a break. I hope they’re taking good care of her and she starts feeling better very soon.

Excellent thread name, Kuc.

Somehow it took me until last month to watch Alien (😻), Aliens (😊) and Alien 3 (🧐) for the first time and I did an ooooooh when the line from the previous thread title came up. I absolutely loved them (apart from 3, wtf) and I now consider the original Alien one of my favourite films ever.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 11/07/2024 16:41

I enjoyed 1 and 2 but wasn't keen after that. The tension and suspense was done incredibly well and the dark grottiness of the ship was an excellent idea. No shiny Star Trek stuff.

VictorianBigot · 11/07/2024 16:49

3 was very odd, and somehow appeared low budget, tv movie style, despite having a bigger budget than the first two.

I watched Prometheus after that which is supposed to be a prequel but I didn’t think that was very good either. I’ve heard that Alien Resurrection is dreadful but I might watch it for the laughs anyway.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 11/07/2024 16:58

I saw 1 and 2 at the cinema when they first came out and the sound was done really well. One of the best bits was in Alien 2, when Ripley's in the loader and says 'Get away from her, you bitch!' to the alien. The whole audience broke into loud cheers. I loved Ripley, she was so good at being angry.
