What job/career, that other people might aspire to, would you never want to do in a million years?

So I’m talking about jobs some people genuinely might aspire to.

What job would you hate doing?

For me I’m going to say social media “influencer”.

Would absolutely hate the pressure to stay relevant/ think of content and would not be happy to share pictures / details of my family and personal life to thousands of strangers. I don’t think I have a thick enough skin to stand the scrutiny / bullying. Really hoping my DC don’t want to choose this kind of career.

Wouldn't fancy any job like modelling which was so dependent on my looks either.

To be honest I wouldn’t want to be famous in any capacity.

I’ve also done sales jobs in the past and was rubbish at them as I didn’t want to persuade people to buy stuff!

Any kind of care work or being a vet

SquirrelyWirrally · 08/10/2024 18:01

Doctor. Amazing people but incredibly hard job, stressful, long hours and poorly paid for the work that they do, until they reach consultant level.

Teacher!

I am one, but could never, ever, ever, be a Head Teacher.

Chief executive, financial manager, buildings manager, HR, customer services- and occasionally something education related if you're lucky - all in one undervalued job. No thanks.

Now they even have Multi Academy Trusts to answer to, so there isn't even the autonomy to cling on to.

shesamarshmallow · 08/10/2024 18:03

Anything involving bodily fluids

Lorelaigilmore88 · 08/10/2024 18:04

UpUpUpU · 08/10/2024 18:04

A nurse. I am a midwife and am in awe of what nurses do. It’s absolutely not for me at all.

Game0fCrones · 08/10/2024 18:05

Anything where you have to speak in public:

PR
Chief Exec
Spokesperson
Actor
Radio Presenter

<shudder>

Greenerbright · 08/10/2024 18:05

So many. Agree with influencer, or anything that puts me in the public eye. Teacher, doctor, lawyer, anything that gives me too much responsibility. Anything too desk based, or corporate.

workplaceshenanigans · 08/10/2024 18:06

Lawyer. Especially not a defence lawyer, when you know full well that the accused is a guilty as hell, but it is your job to get them acquitted.

Lincoln24 · 08/10/2024 18:07

Journalist, I couldn't be doing with all the pushiness to find a story, and spinning it according to the tastes of whoever the readership is.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 08/10/2024 18:11

So many...

doctor
nurse
midwife <shudders>
dentist
famous actor, singer etc - I don't understand why so many people want to be famous!
CEO of anything
Headteacher (I'm a teacher)
Anything involving being responsible for big budget decisions

I decided to be a teacher when I was 12 (40 years ago). It has its downsides, but I still don't like the idea of most other jobs Grin

Studyartic · 08/10/2024 18:14

Apart from the professions listed above (much respect!). A scientific researcher in a lab or an athlete.

GoForARun · 08/10/2024 18:31

Prime Minister!

Or an MP.

You can't do right for doing wrong
Everyone hates you
Your family life winds up in the media

It just can't be worth it.

Hydrangea58 · 08/10/2024 18:32
