What job/career, that other people might aspire to, would you never want to do in a million years?

So I’m talking about jobs some people genuinely might aspire to.

What job would you hate doing?

For me I’m going to say social media “influencer”.

Would absolutely hate the pressure to stay relevant/ think of content and would not be happy to share pictures / details of my family and personal life to thousands of strangers. I don’t think I have a thick enough skin to stand the scrutiny / bullying. Really hoping my DC don’t want to choose this kind of career.

Wouldn't fancy any job like modelling which was so dependent on my looks either.

To be honest I wouldn’t want to be famous in any capacity.

I’ve also done sales jobs in the past and was rubbish at them as I didn’t want to persuade people to buy stuff!

Professional sportsperson. There's no sport I enjoy enough to endure the regime of professional training.

So many. Agree with influencer, or anything that puts me in the public eye. Teacher, doctor, lawyer, anything that gives me too much responsibility. Anything too desk based, or corporate.

I'm similar to this. Just wondering what you do?

stickybear · 08/10/2024 18:53

Radio presenter, the thought of having to talk non stop to millions of people and keep them engaged for hours on end brings me out in a cold sweat

Slaughterhouse person.

I was struggling to think of anything I would hate. But this, this is it. So much sadness.

Somanypiessolittletime · 08/10/2024 19:00

Chef! Hot, busy, trying not to crash into each other, all the shouting and noise and pressure AND unsociable hours 😬

Well yeah but not many people would be liley to "aspire" to that job

RunnerDown · 08/10/2024 19:03

Secondary school teachers. Could cope being with teenagers all day long.

Social worker . Incredibly stressful. There’s never enough bodies on the ground. You’re dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t. When things go wrong you get as much flak as the actual perpetrators of the problem

henlake7 · 08/10/2024 19:04

Probably a vet.....as a nurse I can cope with people in pain but I couldnt with animals!

and TBF most jobs!!
My job means I get to work just 2 nights a week and have done for most of my working life so any job thats mon-fri, 9-5 sounds like a nightmare!

Changingplace · 08/10/2024 19:04

Anything super corporate, worked at a ‘Big 4’ for a while and absolutely hated it.

Any role in the military.

Thevelvelletes · 08/10/2024 19:06

Mummadeze · 08/10/2024 17:59

Teacher!

With you on that , imagine Monday having to face a bunch of unappreciative wee bastards...no thanks.

LoveSandbanks · 08/10/2024 19:08

Dentist. I know it’s good money but, eugh, teeth! Nope

MrsHamster123 · 08/10/2024 19:09

Forensics - don't want to see gruesome deaths/dead people.
Zoo keeper - too much shit.
Vet too upsetting
Anything high powered that takes over and away from family
Sales, influencing

Feckedupbundle · 08/10/2024 19:12

Vet or vet nurse. Bring a farmer, you get to realise pretty fast that being a vet isn't all saving fluffy kittens in a warm surgery. Same with vet nursing. When we left school,my cousin and I were both offered vet nurse jobs at the local vets. We both turned them down as we knew the reality. ( The vets knew us and probably thought 'farm girls, not afraid of hard work and not squeamish').It was years later that I discovered that it's a sought after job.

Anything that involves not being self employed. I've been my own boss for 25 years and dong think I can ever be an employee again.

Arran2024 · 08/10/2024 19:14

Pharmacist. The idea of doing a degree just to work in a tiny pharmacy in a parade of shops, counting out pills all day and printing out stickers is beyond me. Yes I know you can get more exciting positions - in a hospital maybe or a large Boots - and you need to understand the drugs. But the day job itself.....

Mumofteenandtween · 08/10/2024 19:14

I do not fancy fame.

babyproblems · 08/10/2024 19:15

For me - army, teaching or police. I am very thankful they exist but I do not understand why anyone on earth would want to do any of those jobs. Even if you can handle the ‘risks’ - the pay is diabolical and when you add that and the ridiculous level of personal risk involved - I just do not get it.

SimonAnthony · 08/10/2024 19:16

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 08/10/2024 18:34

Slaughterhouse person.

I have never met anyone who aspires to be a slaughterhouse worker.

Endllllessslyendingggs · 08/10/2024 19:17

Child protection social worker
Police Officer
Anything that results in fame of any sort

babyproblems · 08/10/2024 19:18

Oh and totally agree working in a slaughterhouse - surely that goes without saying!!! There was a horribly sad and terrifying article in the Guardian about staff at abattoirs years ago and I’ve never forgotten it. The article was saying that if you work in an abattoir you are much much more likely to commit suicide. It was grim reading for all involved and the rates of depression were huge. Reading that article has never left me!

SirChenjins · 08/10/2024 19:20

Doctor or lawyer

LaPalmaLlama · 08/10/2024 19:21

Doctor (although being a pathologist would be ok as no need for bedside manner or sense of emergency as cant really get much worse for the patient).

Anything that involves asking for money, like fundraising or sales. I just can't do it. Too awkward.

ButterAsADip · 08/10/2024 19:26

Anything in the NHS. Or, anything in healthcare. You get families full of doctors etc - I really couldn’t do it, am not clever enough and certainly don’t have enough sympathy for people!

Vet

OnlyFans

Those are the only ones I can think of 😄

ETA Oh, banker or athlete too.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 08/10/2024 19:28

It's harder to think of jobs I do want to do to be honest!
I'd not like to be:
A doctor or nurse or vet - too squeamish
Anything where you get famous or rely on looks- nightmare
A business person - boring and difficult to be ethical
HR or any type of people manager - have to sack people/ be involved in disputes
Sales - I'm awful at this and don't see why someone should have to buy something if they don't want or need it

I do want to be a teacher, a gardener, a conservationist. And I am a teacher.

Hedgerow2 · 08/10/2024 19:30
