What job/career, that other people might aspire to, would you never want to do in a million years?

So I’m talking about jobs some people genuinely might aspire to.

What job would you hate doing?

For me I’m going to say social media “influencer”.

Would absolutely hate the pressure to stay relevant/ think of content and would not be happy to share pictures / details of my family and personal life to thousands of strangers. I don’t think I have a thick enough skin to stand the scrutiny / bullying. Really hoping my DC don’t want to choose this kind of career.

Wouldn't fancy any job like modelling which was so dependent on my looks either.

To be honest I wouldn’t want to be famous in any capacity.

I’ve also done sales jobs in the past and was rubbish at them as I didn’t want to persuade people to buy stuff!

Hairdresser - the pressure of having someone's crowning glory in your hands - especially for weddings - OMG 🙈🙈🙈

Surprised no one's mentioned astronaut. No way am i being shot into space only to live in a tiny space with no fresh air for months on end.

Pilot, Manager, Teacher, Banking, NHS. I don't want to have to wake up early, commute and show up at a workplace looking smart and then act professional all day.

Prime minister! Or any kind of politician actually

Spacecrispsnack · 08/10/2024 19:39

Politician/PM definitely not

Teacher but only because I’d rather have 5 weeks of leave when I like than 12 dictated to me at the worst times of year! I quite fancy moving into adult education but I want the freedom of holidays in term time as soon as DC are old enough to leave behind!

Police officer. Prison officer. Take my hat off to them.

AvaJae · 08/10/2024 19:44

Air steward. Too scary, not the glamorous job I thought it was when my family outing as a child, was to the airport.
The glamour and exotics of the air stewardesses, standing, waving on the top of the aeroplane steps. Navy coat, suit, hat and white gloves. 😍

I'd never flown at that time…🫣

Social worker - horrifically hard job damned if they do damned if they don’t - shit money for huge levels of risk and responsibility

Police officer thankless job and I say that as someone who used to want to be one and actually works for the police

I'm similar to this. Just wondering what you do?

Keeping it vague but I do an environmental role with a mixture of both desk based and outdoor work. I think my dream role would be something like a park ranger though!

Chef! Hot, busy, trying not to crash into each other, all the shouting and noise and pressure AND unsociable hours 😬

Second this, I can't follow recipes, and I'd probably cut my finger off!

princesspadam · 08/10/2024 19:50

Midwife (I'm a nurse but couldn't do midwifery)
Teacher (can't stand other peoples kids)
Fire Fighter (too hot)

Running my own business / being self employed. I like someone else taking all the financial risk and giving me a nice lump sum each month.

idrinkandknowthings · 08/10/2024 20:08

Any job that requires me to give a shit about it as soon as my working day is done. Works for work, homes for home.

Astronaut was my first thought too. It’s also very high risk.
