Have been rewatching The Sandman on Netflix and am again blown away by Tom Sturridge as Dream/Morpheus. He's so incredibly otherworldly and compelling, such a great casting choice for that role.

Anyone fancy sharing their favourite casting decisions? (Or worst! 😁)

Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. He WAS Willy Wonka.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 07/10/2024 15:04

Great casting: the whole cast of Slow Horses.

Appalling casting: the last hole cast of The Dark is Rising film. A particularly dishonourable mention going to Christopher Ecclestone.

I agree on Slow Horses. Genius casting.

My phone won't allow me to edit my post. Whole, not hole, obviously.

FridgeJenga · 07/10/2024 15:09

Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange.

Edited out gratuitous extra word

CeruleanBelt · 07/10/2024 15:11

Jodie Comer as Villanelle.

RachelGreensHair · 07/10/2024 15:11

Having just watched Heartstopper, it must be so hard casting kids that age as they're still growing and developing, but Joe & Kit are amazing.

Worst casting - Harry & Hermoine in the movies :(

KStockHERO · 07/10/2024 15:13

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Nidge in Love/Hate. I grew up around men like Nidge and he absolutely nails that vibe.

Thorinfling · 07/10/2024 15:16

Agree on Slow Horses, amazing cast! And Gene Wilder will always be my Willy Wonka too.
Sam Reid as Lestat in the new Interview with the Vampire series is also incredible

This is upcoming - Jilly Cooper’s Rivals.
Casting a dark haired actor as Rupert Campbell-Black is a crime.
However, me and my lovely mum used to spend hours discussing who should play him and we could never think of anyone!
There is a cockney character called Freddie who is being played by Danny Dyer. Spot on!

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 07/10/2024 15:28

Also whoever cast Brosnan as Ron, the overweight, balding, overbearing Ron in Thursday Murder Club needs a lie down.
Ray Winstone was the man for the job!

stargirl1701 · 07/10/2024 15:29

Lana Parilla as The Evil Queen.

Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley.

Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor.

Lucy Lawless as Xena.

SleepyTraveller · 07/10/2024 15:30

Everyone in the BBC adaptation of The Night Manager. Absolutely spot on.

Onlyonekenobe · 07/10/2024 15:33

My youngest is working their way through the Harry Potter films: all the children were excellently cast, as well as the revered older actors playign Dumbledore, Snape, Prof McGonnagal (sp?) etc. Really amazing. I wonder how the new cast will compare (can't believe it could be any better!).

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 07/10/2024 15:34

Joan Hickson - Miss Marple.

I think she's a brilliant actress, but I can't get past the weird cockney accent, given that she's essentially the Unity Mitford of the wizarding world, and from a wealthy pureblood family in which all the other members speak RP, including her own sister! I mean, is she supposed to have picked it up in Azkaban or something? Not that Azkaban is exactly the type of prison where inmates hang around together in the canteen trading stories or anything...

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 07/10/2024 15:36

Showing my age here - Jim Hacker, Sir Humphrey and Bernard, Yes Minister/Prime Minister.

Maybe some day Ray will surprise us by being cast as Maxim de Winter or something? Grin

Plus I'm now quite amused at the prospect of seeing Remington Steele in a series of too-tight West Ham shirts...

What? Tall, willowy, Etonian-voiced Tom Hiddleston as a former soldier? Nah. I enjoyed it and he’s a great actor but he was never believable.

I'd agree with that.

Also I suggest Maggie Smith, in Downton Abbey

NewName24 · 07/10/2024 15:41

Indeed, Maggie Smith in Lady in the Van

LadyKenya · 07/10/2024 15:42

Whoopi Goldberg as Oda Mae Brown (Ghost)

Christopher Reeve (Superman)

Yul Brynner as Ramses (The Ten Commandments)

Hattie Mcdaniel as Mammy (Gone With The Wind)

Judy Garland as Dorothy (The Wizard of Oz)

Viviennemary · 07/10/2024 15:42

Sam Heugan as Jamie in Outlander. Best ever. Worst ever casting the blonde actress as Agatha Raisin. Agatha Raisin has dark hair. Never watched it because of that.

I've never been able to picture RCB as handsome ever since I found out he's based on Andrew Parker-Bowles... Agreed though, he should 100% be blonde!

Worst casting for me of an otherwise usually great actor- Stephen Graham in the White House Farm tv series based on the Bamber murders. He's supposed to be Welsh but the accent is completely atrocious and all over the place.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 07/10/2024 15:43

Jessica Gunning in Baby Reindeer. If I ever saw her sitting at a bus stop I’d be 👀
