The airtight sealed, ready to eat chilli fillet type ones?

Forgot about them!

Yes, if it smells ok

Roundaboot · 06/10/2024 21:47

No. I mostly ignore best before dates and take use by dates with a pinch of salt but not with fish. I wouldn't risk it.

twoastars · 06/10/2024 21:47

Yes

RoundAgain · 06/10/2024 21:47

No, I did this once and got hilarious diarrhoea. In a hotel. On a business trip. Really wouldn't advise it.

DevilsIvyy · 06/10/2024 21:49

No.

TheDoorsOpen · 06/10/2024 21:50

Bollocks :(

Yes open the packet, you will be able to tell by the smell and the colour of the fish. If it smells bad bin it. If it looks grey rather than pink bin it.

Sober23 · 06/10/2024 21:51

I would. It doesn't suddenly go off at midnight. Common sense and your nose are all you need.

waltzingparrot · 06/10/2024 21:54

Yes if it still smelt good. Often have done.

maverickfox · 06/10/2024 21:57

Smell it. It might be fine.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 06/10/2024 21:58

No.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 06/10/2024 21:59

Definitely provided it didn’t have a strong smell and looked a healthy pink colour

DontBiteTheCat · 06/10/2024 21:59

I’m not one to take much notice of use by dates, but would never risk it with fish or chicken.

PussGirl · 06/10/2024 21:59

Cooked and ready to eat in a sealed packet yes. Raw no.

User1253S367484 · 06/10/2024 22:00

Yes.

stripeymonster · 06/10/2024 22:01

Yes - in fact have eaten those same salmon fillets with no ill effects.

Catandsquirrel · 06/10/2024 22:02

If it smells alright would it work heated through and made into a pasta sauce so as not to waste? Just a suggestion, I don't eat fish so don't know what I'd do myself!

Sober23 · 06/10/2024 21:51

I would. It doesn't suddenly go off at midnight. Common sense and your nose are all you need.

I think it would be two days over though. Use by date is Saturday, and would be eating it Monday.

Icanttakethisanymore · 06/10/2024 22:02

How long was the date to start off with? For things which have quite a long date (like bacon, for example) i would push it a few days. If it’s only ever 3 days from purchasing then I wouldn’t.

Neveranynamesleft · 06/10/2024 22:02

You need to open it to check the smell and proper colour. However, 2 days is verging on dodgy with fish.....

clareth · 06/10/2024 22:02

It sounds like it’s the hot smoked type. Yes I would, as long as it’s been in a fridge for the whole time

Berlinlover · 06/10/2024 22:07

I wouldn’t but my partner would and then he wonders why the kitchen stinks.
