The airtight sealed, ready to eat chilli fillet type ones?

Forgot about them!

I'm quite lax about use by dates. If it smells ok, it'll be ok. I've never had fish or meat still smell ok2 days after the use by date so I go by them for fish and meat.
Plus I got pretty bad food poisoning when I had some crab pate discounted on the actual use by date. It was a horrific experience which I never want to go through again. Shudder.

countdowntonap · 06/10/2024 22:12

Yes for breakfast or lunch. The use by dates are quite lenient (I.e. the fish won’t expire at 1am). But I do have a newish very high quality fridge that keeps food very well.

opaltimer · 06/10/2024 22:13

Yes do it all the time!

No, not two days over.

titchy · 06/10/2024 22:14

I'd chuck it in the freezer overnight then take out tomorrow. Effectively that would keep it at one day over sell-by which should be fine.

unlikelychump · 06/10/2024 22:28

Id put it in the freezer. I often do that.

Ladyof2024 · 06/10/2024 22:35

Yes. Foods had no use by dates for millions of years till about 25 yrs ago.

usernother · 06/10/2024 22:53

Yes. I never look at use by dates and use my nose and eyes instead.

Newstartplease2024 · 06/10/2024 22:54

I did tonight and so did my kids. Feel fine so far!

felissamy · 06/10/2024 22:57

I do it fairly often and never had a problem. I would freeze it now though.

arthar · 06/10/2024 23:00

No, I would never eat out of date food

snowlady4 · 06/10/2024 23:10

You will know if your salmon isn't right as soon as you open it. I would certainly open it and see.. any doubt, I wouldn't risk it.. but if it looks fine and smells fine, I would eat it!

ODFOx · 06/10/2024 23:19

I wouldn't. If it was raw I'd say sniff and see, but as it's precooked and flavoured you might not be able to tell.

Bellaboot · 06/10/2024 23:19

Yes I eat that kind of salmon up to 3 days after use by date as long as it doesn't have an offensive smell. There is no doubt when fish has gone off. No probs so far.

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 06/10/2024 23:21

Sober23 · 06/10/2024 21:51

I would. It doesn't suddenly go off at midnight. Common sense and your nose are all you need.

At the stroke of midnight, it'll curl up and become rancid.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 06/10/2024 23:23

No I always think fish is borderline even on its use by date, it seems to turn much quicker than other foods , personally I wouldn't risk it.

Birthdaywoops · 06/10/2024 23:23

I'd freeze it now and eat it tomorrow

Copperoliverbear · 06/10/2024 23:24

No

TyneTeas · 06/10/2024 23:24

One day probably, two days no

I would put in freezer overnight and check carefully when defrosted

AhBiscuits · 06/10/2024 23:26

I would and have.

Raveonette · 06/10/2024 23:27

If it looks & smells normal I would

BuzzieLittleBee · 06/10/2024 23:27

I would, yes. As long as your fridge is decent and has kept it at a decent low temp.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 06/10/2024 23:28

If it was a white fish i.e. raw cod I wouldn't, but I think you should be able to tell by your eyes / nose and touch - if it's gone extra slimey it's a no

mm81736 · 06/10/2024 23:41

I have eaten some of that exact thing today, out of date yesterday, so if you never hear from me again.....
I have eaten them 5 daysout of date before with no ill effects.

Snugglemonkey · 07/10/2024 00:13

If it hot smoked and has been stored properly, I would. I would just freeze it tonight, take it out amd put in in the fridge in the morning and cook it tomorrow evening.
