There are currently quite a few I have lost respect for, who are yours and why??

OP posts:
Septoctsun · 06/10/2024 14:51

Caitlin Moran, was on here when it was all fields. She reviewed a TV thing I worked on and really put the boot into the woman presenter. It reads even worse 20 years later.
Makes me sad, because she was a bright spark but was playing 'join the posh kids gang'.

Neil Gaiman
Sandi Toksvig - what is it about QI that turns the host into a pompous know it all, but unable to think strategically.

I get that Novak is unlikeable, but I can't fathom why people would dislike him simply because he didn't want a certain vaccine put into his own body. He's an athlete. His body is his livelihood.

Anyway, there are plenty. Yes to all the woman haters already mentioned.

Aside from his anti vaxx views he's also known for associating with various far right Serb nationalists, some of whom have been convicted of war crimes.

What did Marcus Rashford do though?

dayswithaY · 06/10/2024 14:52

Oh yes…Jonathan Ross for that despicable display of bullying towards Andrew Sachs with his bestie Russell Brand.

Now gone very quiet about his former friend.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 06/10/2024 14:53

Oprah Winfrey - loved her show in the late 80’s and 90’s. Really enjoyed her work and admired how far she had come in life. Bought into the whole narrative around her generosity but she lost me a bit when she got obsessed with people Eckhart Tolle.
The H and M interview was a low point - from her point of view, as a journalist it was so poorly researched and executed. So much was inaccurate. She can question when she wants to but it was just a puff piece of PR.
I am not really into conspiracy theories about her.
However promoting Weight Watchers and hiding her Ozempic use - she’s a billionaire it’s not like she needs the money.
(And where is Steadman?!!)

DungareesAndTrombones · 06/10/2024 14:54

Tom Daley. Says a transwoman is a woman but also used a surrogate. Could you buy a baby off a transwoman Tom? No. On the same lines any celebrity who uses surrogacy which I don't think should be legal.

Sandi has bitterly disappointed me.

Davina McCall. Firmly in the Not All Men camp and did a tone fucking deaf tweet about women not getting a taxi home as it puts them at risk, they should simply use their car service.

Dave Grohl for cheating on his wife and announcing it by trying to make out he’s being a supportive father to the baby his OW has had and has clearly only done this because he’s been found out.

I really don't get why anyone was shocked about DG. He cheated on his 1st wife, so where did all the 'nice guy of rock' crap come from anyway?

Lifeomars · 06/10/2024 14:59

I think it is about separating the talent from the person and respecting what a person is capable of in the sphere of their work without assuming that because they are gifted they are also decent human beings. I also think that the world of fame and celebrity must really mess with people's heads, many of them must start to believe that they are exceptional people in every aspect of life and their opinions matter more than those of "ordinary" people. Money and being surrounded by people who never say no must really mess with a person's sense of self. Money and fame also gives many of them access to act on their worst impulses. A lot of them cultivate a persona of being a decent human being (Dave Grohl springs to mind) to enhance their image and further their career.

Marcus rashford

What has Marcus Rashford done? I've had a quick Google and couldn't see anything

MatchingBedding · 06/10/2024 15:01

I don’t know if I respected them but I certainly liked them for their out put…
david Tennant. Just appalling, entitled and ignorant.
Neil Gaiman. Nasty smug and the current allegations that he has yet to address make my skin crawl.
Dave Grohl. He courted the nicest man in Rock image.
Just any one of them that has got on their high horse and talked down to the general public about the choices they make or their life decisions. Just because you are pretty or can read some words on camera and emote does not make your opinion more valid. Especially whilst using the word privilege.

Hunnymonster1 · 06/10/2024 15:01

HeeseChamwich · 06/10/2024 13:05

David Tennant. I've always loved basically anything he's in (apart from Dr Who) and always thought he seemed like a decent bloke. His stance on women's rights put me right off. Twat.

You mean his stance on trans people because his child is trans and fucking nothing to do with women's rights at all . You guys are wrong and stupid he has never said nothing bad about being a woman at all he said some people are trans get over it and yeah he's bloody right and I am a woman to

Hunnymonster1 · 06/10/2024 15:03

Giggorata · 06/10/2024 13:10

Sandi Toksvig and the many other slebs who are oblivious or woke.

Perhaps losing respect isn’t the exact description, more like acquiring massive disrespect.

Maybe we should go back to having racist jokes on the TV because uou hate whatever being woke js but as Cathy Burke sys rather be woke then an arsehole

LiarAtAWitchTrial · 06/10/2024 15:03

Thom Yorke, because he left his wife when she had cancer.

supercalie · 06/10/2024 15:04

Harry Potter
Ron Weasley
Emma Watson

I don't care what their real names are. Those actors are scum.

Bluevelvetsofa · 06/10/2024 15:04

Plenty of those already mentioned I find unpleasant. Most of them I didn’t have any respect for in the first place though. Mostly talentless, fawning, flawed people with little to recommend them.

I shall never understand why those people are paid the vast sums of money they are.

Hunnymonster1 · 06/10/2024 15:04

StressedQueen · 06/10/2024 13:29

What did David Tennant do?

He wore a t shirt that said some people are trans get over it and some of the usual terfs hate him now. Because he dared and stand up for trans kids as he has one that's how sick this argument has got

BunnyLake · 06/10/2024 15:04

I’ve never ‘respected’ these people as such because they’re just celebrities and as you get older you realise they’re just as shitty (if not more so) than ordinary people. But they have disappointed me.

Daniel Radcliffe
Emma Watson
Rupert Grint
Mel Gibson
Prince Harry (big time) I won’t count his wife as she’s just too silly.
Oprah, what a disappointment she turned out to be.
Leo de Caprio’s penchant for girls barely out their teens. He’s entering grandad age now, it’s yuck.

There’s loads more I’m sure.

Covid is a vascular disease, if Novak were to be badly affected by catching it he could be looking at damage to his heart and lungs which would have the potential to end his career. Friend of mine (mid 30's ) has damaged lungs due to catching covid pre-vaccine, she can no longer walk for long distances, exercise or do the dance classes she used to love.

Wow another mumsnet who doesn't like people standing up for trans people rights this isn't anything to do with women's rights as Emma is a woman but you know comes to something the bigotry on here

supercalie · 06/10/2024 15:08

@Hunnymonster1

??

Do you live underground with your head in the sand?

Are you really going to claim that someone can't be a misogynist because they're female??

Have you met anybody or travelled anywhere in the world ever in your life??

SoMauveMonty · 06/10/2024 15:10

GreekBeaver · 06/10/2024 14:30

Eddie Izzard

Yep. Loved his stand up, loved his 'i'll wear what i want' out & proud transvestism. Greatly admired his passion for pushing himself physically, raising squillions for charity in the process.
Then he hitched his wagon to the 'trans' horses that were tearing through women's rights, claimed he'd been 'trans' for decades, donned fake breasts and started literally taking the piss in female only facilities. Nah. He's an autogynephile who knows women can no longer say "no" to men like him without receiving abuse from twats like David Tennant.
And don't get me started on women like Lorraine Kelly who prostrate themselves at his feet. In the words of Magdalen Berns - "you're being ridiculous, get some dignity".

Lifeomars · 06/10/2024 15:10

ToWhitToWhoo · 06/10/2024 14:50

But vaccines are much less likely to affect your body long-term than the diseases. If an athlete gets long Covid, even if they fully recover in the end, it's likely to derail their career. In any case, it's not just about him- if it were, then I suppose it's his choice- but about obeying travel regulations to protect others. Again, I suppose if he accepts that he then can't travel to certain places, it's up to him; but the problem is that, if you're a celebrity, it then gets used by anti-vaccine campaigners. I HAAAATE people who campaign against vaccines (in general) or masks or social distancing (in the case of Covid).

I suppose my other line in the sand is support for Trump or Farage; but people, whom I respect in the first place, are unlikely to turn round and support them.

Agree, there has been some very exciting and positive news about a vaccine to combat ovarian cancer. What a boon this would be but no doubt the anti-vaxxers will be coming out with their usual stuff

Hunnymonster1 · 06/10/2024 15:10

Jk Rowling loved Harry Potter can't stand it now she's ruined all that with her absolute unhinged attacks on the trans community.
Elon musk giving mega money to republican party now which makes no sense when you think he makes tesla cars and they are anti environmental stuff including electric cars
Ricky Gervais I used to like but feel he tried to hard with comedy and it's nit great anymore
Can't think kf anyone else atm

Thom Yorke, because he left his wife when she had cancer.

God did he? That’s terrible. Well he certainly is a Creep isn’t he!

I’ve looked on Wikipedia, it says it was amicable but why on earth would either want or agree to a split a year before she died? Strange.

Naillig222 · 06/10/2024 15:11

Brad Pitt after seeing how rude he was to Martin Brundle when he didn't know who he was.

She's a big feminist and has done stuff for feminism it's her thing . What you don't like is the support for trans people
