There are currently quite a few I have lost respect for, who are yours and why??

OP posts:
Overtheatlantic · 06/10/2024 14:20

George Clooney for being so fake and acting like he matters in the world of politics.

deademptyduck · 06/10/2024 14:22

Michael Bible after how he was seen treating his wife in covid. Really dislike him now.

ToWhitToWhoo · 06/10/2024 14:23

I don't know that I respect people just because they're celebrities, or even just because they have a great talent. I admire their talent, but don't necessarily think they must be admirable human beings.

People who have disappointed me include:

Huw Edwards (surprised no one else has mentioned him as yet)

Neil Gaiman- if any of the allegations turn out to be true

Morrissey- ages ago, for his support for far-right-wingers

Roger Daltrey, for some of his views on Brexit and Covid

Novak Djokovic, for his anti-vaccine antics

TerfTalking · 06/10/2024 14:24

That idiot Kirsty Allsopp.

Actually, I don't think I ever had any respect for the irritating, privileged cow. It was Phil I actually quite liked.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 06/10/2024 14:25

Yet another thread where the op posts some weird question and then fucks off never to be seen again.
seems a plague of them on here recently

Theunamedcat · 06/10/2024 14:25

Ewen mcgregger he seemed OK fair actor I liked the personality he put onscreen with his long way round series he seemed down to earth quite funny etc then he cheats on his wife and just doesn't stop talking bollocks I just turn over now I find him very off putting

I get that Novak is unlikeable, but I can't fathom why people would dislike him simply because he didn't want a certain vaccine put into his own body. He's an athlete. His body is his livelihood.

Anyway, there are plenty. Yes to all the woman haters already mentioned.

And then she posted about hard done to parents who sent their kids to private schools were because of the VAT issue.
She was told to stop buting coffee and avocados, and denied saying it herself!

GreekBeaver · 06/10/2024 14:30

Eddie Izzard

HideousKinky · 06/10/2024 14:30

I have always been a huge admirer of the opera singer Placido Domingo and was very disappointed when multiple allegations of sexual harrassment dating back decades all came out

LeavesOnTrees · 06/10/2024 14:31

Johnny Depp after the trial with Amber Heard. Yes she came off as unhinged and probably made a lot of stuff up, but that doesn't take away the fact he used a televised show trial to destroy her public image.
His text messages to Paul Brittany were horrendous (so lost respect for him too).

He has since started dating a much younger Russian model and so is entering dirty old man territory.

Oh and also how he described Amber as this 'beautiful creature ' when he first met her. Urghhh. I used to really fancy him as well.

Russell brand. For all the many obvious reasons

What an utter horror he has turned out to be

Purplebunnie · 06/10/2024 14:33

Underyourthumb · 06/10/2024 14:04

Thoroughly hate Johnny Depp, even though I adored him growing up

You beat me to it, despicable piece of garbage

AllAboutNiamh · 06/10/2024 14:34

I don’t think I respect any celebs, apart from JK Rowling.

Aliciainwunderland · 06/10/2024 14:34

What did Sandy toksvig do? Did I miss something?

dontcryformeargentina · 06/10/2024 14:35

George Clooney, Jeff Bezos, Huw Edwards

LeavesOnTrees · 06/10/2024 14:35

Rolf Harris. Such a disappointment.
I used to love his art program as a child and saw him at a student union show at uni, then he turned out to be just another TV sex offender.

Dragonfly97 · 06/10/2024 14:14

I agree. Really disappointed in him. I used to love Caitlin Moran but I wish she'd stand up for women more where the trans issue is concerned. She's been strangely silent on it. I think I lost respect for her after her book about how hard blokes have it!

Years and years ago Caitlin Moran nailed her colours to the mast. I remember reading where she said (quite possibly in a piece similar to this thread...) "Germaine Greer is TERRIBLE on trans issues!"

Notaflippinclue · 06/10/2024 14:40

Not lose respect but feel disdain for
The numpties who JKR dragged from obscurity
Jo Brand
Lineker
Khan
Sheen
Welty
And on and on

Michael Sheen. Saying that he finds it very hard to accept people who are not Welsh playing Welsh characters. A Welsh actor who has made his name playing English people, Tony Blair, Prince Andrew, Kenneth Williams, Brian Clough and David Frost to name a few. Hypocrite.

dayswithaY · 06/10/2024 14:49

Beyoncé for taking money from dictators (Gaddafi) when she’s already loaded, plus not speaking out when she knew all about Diddy (I realise she’s not alone in this).

Noel Gallagher for the dynamic pricing thing, then claiming he didn’t know about it.

Oprah (lots of reasons)

Madonna for changing her face rather than embracing her age.

But vaccines are much less likely to affect your body long-term than the diseases. If an athlete gets long Covid, even if they fully recover in the end, it's likely to derail their career. In any case, it's not just about him- if it were, then I suppose it's his choice- but about obeying travel regulations to protect others. Again, I suppose if he accepts that he then can't travel to certain places, it's up to him; but the problem is that, if you're a celebrity, it then gets used by anti-vaccine campaigners. I HAAAATE people who campaign against vaccines (in general) or masks or social distancing (in the case of Covid).

I suppose my other line in the sand is support for Trump or Farage; but people, whom I respect in the first place, are unlikely to turn round and support them.
