What is the point of an M&S Sparks card?

It’s starting to really get on my tits. The offers are rubbish and there seems no benefit in scanning it. Am I missing something?

I don’t like it either - it was one of those loyalty schemes that was good at the start but has dwindled away to be increasingly less relevant.

I used to get lots of regular freebies and relevant offers. Eg buy fruit - get a fruit offer.

I’m vegetarian and have never purchased meat from M&S. yet suddenly I’m getting offers for 10% off meat which isn’t relevant

I also find that the more I shop at M&S, the less offers I get! If I stop shopping there for a couple of months, the offers start up again!

Tillygan60 · 03/10/2024 16:40

I can't see any benefit to me...they get all my data for nothing. I've stopped using it.

PiggyPokkyFool · 03/10/2024 17:27

I find it really good since we got a M&S really close by. I pop in around 4.30 when I can and browse the yellow sticker stuff and often get an extra 10-20% off the discounted price with my card.
We are four for dinner tonight and will be having Cumberland pie, which everyone loves, with some garden veg which feeds us all for £3.50ish.
Also 10% off the potatoes gives us 1.5KG of perfect potatoes for £2.25 which usually does 7-8 meals for us - maybe with the chicken leek and bacon which means DH and I fed for under £3 on another night.
Could have bought a ton more reduced price stuff there today too.

I’ve got a free loaf of bread a couple of times, but that’s about it!

JulieBP · 03/10/2024 17:47

I had a free bag of Percy Pigs and a wholemeal loaf last month. I agree, they are tight. Not as bad as the TK Maxx/Homesense card, now that’s really rubbish.

Floralnomad · 03/10/2024 17:53

I use mine to use the scan and shop ,I do lots of shopping in there ( food) and generally get rubbish offers , I haven’t had anything free for months .

maxybrown · 03/10/2024 17:59

I don't know what you're all complaining about.

I've just got a birthday treat come up on mine....hold on to your jealousy now!

It is...a pack of grapes! Any colour though.....

HappyMe6 · 03/10/2024 18:03

I’ve had a free loaf of bread and Percy pigs within a few weeks I totally agree

Gave up on the Sparks card years ago. The John Lewis loyalty card used to be good but that's rubbish too now. The only rewards you get are money off spa stuff. We used to get coffee and cake vouchers. I'd meet a friend in the cafe when these were available. Haven't had one for years.

Do you have an online John Lewis account? There is a “rewards” section and last month the offer was free ice cream. This month it’s free soup and roll. I don’t use them but there are still monthly offers for everyone online 🤷‍♀️

Sparks offers are usually a percent off - which are occasionally useful. Never had free percy pigs 😭

I tend to get better offers once I've spent money the previous month, might be a coincidence but always the same! It's not one of the best I don't think, although saved quite a bit on some boots recently!

Biffsboys · 03/10/2024 18:41

I use the 20% off clothing quite often . I won my shopping for free last year which was £58 .. the problem for me is remembering to check and add offers

Mrsmouse71 · 03/10/2024 18:54

I thought the same until I got £30 free shopping because I’d scanned it!

I've just had that treat too. I think I'm allowed mixed grapes. Soooo excited 😂

Grapes? That's hilarious.
I prefer my grapes in their liquid form.

noodlebugz · 03/10/2024 19:06

to use the scan and shop. That’s it really. Saw someone next to me win their shop once.

larklane17 · 02/10/2024 22:07

It's underwhelming for a loyalty card.

I agree. I've had one measly offer of 50p off cleaning stuff in the last 6 months.
Waste of time.

SaltedPotato · 03/10/2024 19:31

Woman in front of me once got a £97 shop for free. Was really bizarre none of the shop staff knew what was going on. It just beeped and then there was no balance to pay. They were just about to scan it into another till and someone must have looked somewhere on the till to problem solve and it was an offer

RavenhairedRachel · 03/10/2024 19:58

The Coop card is the worst absolutely dire. They send offers every Monday like 20p off their already overpriced stuff. Like I'm going to go running to the Coop for 29p off milk.

Gagaandgag · 03/10/2024 20:29

Hahah this made me laugh - every time we are in m & s my 8 year old son says loudly “mummy what is the point of the sparks card?” And I can’t say I disagree with him!

Recently though, seconds after he voiced his usual line we overheard the self checkout announce to the gentleman beside us “congratulations you have received your shopping for free!”

He hasn’t repeated it quite as often since then.

CommonAsMucklowe · 03/10/2024 20:39

Just checked the M&S Sparks page and there are absolutely no offers available. Shouldn't there be at least something all the time? Boots and Nectar seem to be the only ones I find useful.

It’s personalised to you. If you have registered your Sparks card you should receive an email with your latest offers which you need to accept and add to your card. I received a couple today. Notified via email and I checked the app and added them. I could just check the app every few days and accept them there. I never think to do that but the email gets my attention.

BashfulClam · 03/10/2024 20:53

On the advent offers we got free chocolates that cost £6 normally, a free loaf etc and I recently got 20% off clothes so I got myself a new winter coat.

InSpainTheRain · 03/10/2024 21:16

I have tied my Sparks card to my M&S Credit card. I pay it off each month and I've had some big purchases - then it gives money back in M&S vouchers each month. For me, definitely worth it. I'd had quite a big expense recently (paying for something for my parents who don't have a credit card) and got £23 off my food shop last month.

Islandgirl68 · 03/10/2024 21:30

I find it useful, just bought shoes with 20% off and new jeans at 15%. Did not use but also had 20% off Jamie's. Just got new ones today 20% off bedding. So just off to have a look. But bit annoyed they took away free perry pigs when donating old clothes.

FeetLikeFlippers · 03/10/2024 22:05

It’s great if you want 50p off when you spend £300 on food.
