What is the point of an M&S Sparks card?

It’s starting to really get on my tits. The offers are rubbish and there seems no benefit in scanning it. Am I missing something?

I shop in M&S daily. Card has never scanned once in three years.

828Pax · 02/10/2024 22:21

The only time I got excited about it was the 12 days of Christmas gifts reveal and I won a bottle of the light up gin...went to collect and none in stock

letthemalldoone · 02/10/2024 22:23

Well if you're missing something, I'm missing it too, because thinking about it, I have got feck all out of mine!

HeidiBlum · 02/10/2024 22:23

Instead of carrying cards I keep them on my phone in Stocard if that helps. I once won a free shop worth £7.80 and had to be fanned down with the shock! Thereafter I was bombarded asking for feedback. Does M &S calculate the cost of your shop before giving it to you for free I cynically wonder.

Barney16 · 02/10/2024 22:27

I have used one offer and have had the card for ages. It's useless, I can't see the point of it. There was a really funny thread on here about people getting a free paper bag but I haven't even had that.

ethelredonagoodday · 02/10/2024 22:28

I scan mine whenever I shop, but don't know why I do, because the rewards are utter crap!

Gloriousgardener11 · 02/10/2024 22:28

Yes, I find it a pointless waste of time, I wish they would change it to actually give you something in return for all the valuable data they collect.

NC001 · 02/10/2024 22:29

I had this very conversation with the check out lady. Yes I do have a card, no I don’t scan it I don’t see the point. I’m letting them know my spending habits ,and I’m getting g nothing in return so no I won’t scan it .

user5883920 · 02/10/2024 22:29

Fcked if I know either. Its shit.

I buy food and house stuff/ sometimes clothing in there weekly. Every time I go to the till the lady says excitedly "shall we check your Sparks card?!" with an air of anticipation and glee. I always say yes and every. damn. time. her face falls and she says "oh sorry, there's nothing on there". Oh sorry thats a lie, one time there was 10% off some overpriced fancy candle that supposedly smelt of grass clippings and pepper or something...... but it was out of stock.

Absolute garbage. At least the Tesco club card takes the total price down.

You are not

I've often asked the same question

Unicorntastic · 02/10/2024 22:30

Same, thought it was just me and I was missing a trick!

I have one and find it good - not specifically the offers, they're a bit hit and miss for me and mostly I don't bother with them but I get ££ in vouchers every year because I spend on my card and pay it off every month.

It's the only credit card I use for buying stuff. There might be better ones out there for you and what you like.

That's the credit card

The 'reward' card is crap

labamba007 · 02/10/2024 22:30

It started off pretty good like the Morrisons more card but now pretty useless!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 02/10/2024 22:31

I quite like mine! I got 20% off clothes a couple of weeks ago which was great. I bought a few things and saved £27 so was pleased.

I loved the recent 5 days of beauty and got 20% off Clinique and L'Ocitaine.

I got ££ off in the food hall too and bought some great goodies. I must admit I haven't had any free things for a while but have enjoyed hand cream, Percy pigs, bread and a chocolate chip muffin before.

Downsizermaybe · 02/10/2024 22:32

I get an email telling me I have new Sparks rewards. Then I go to the Sparks app and add them. You have to accept and add them to your card/app if you want them .

PrincessFluffyPants · 02/10/2024 22:32

In light of this thread, I thought I would check my Sparks offers on the M&S app. According to M&S I have used all my offers and there is nothing there. Nada. Zilch.

I've not once used an offer as I (like many online users I suspect) either forget or find them irrelevant to whatever I've decided I want to buy.

Not sure what is going on but I'm definitely unimpressed now.

Mumwithbaggage · 02/10/2024 22:33

Only benefit for me is when returning items - don't need a receipt.

A friend of mine got his shop free a few months ago when he had spent over £200 on fizz and nibbles for people coming over for his birthday, he was well chuffed!

I find the offers hit and miss but definitely make some decent savings throughout the course of the year, just this week I got 20% off clothing and beauty so stocked up on thermals for winter which I had already planned to buy and saved £20.

Goldenbear · 02/10/2024 22:35

Yes, I agree and the Waitrose reward card - pointless! With Waitrose my DH will always moan about it, "so what has come off of this £50 shop for one night's meal, absolutely nothing!"🙄

My best reward card is Boots, for me it quickly adds up and I can buy something like decent hair conditioner.

Elderberrier · 02/10/2024 22:35

OMG yes. I thought it was just me not grasping how to use it. I don’t understand how you even get Percy pigs or bread! I have the card on my apple wallet - but my understanding is I need to check the app before I go shopping and add the offers in, or I don’t get them, is that right? I either don’t remember to do this or the offers are nothing I’d use.

westisbest1982 · 02/10/2024 22:36

There's not much point for consumers (10% off items that are expensive even with the discount applied), but it's more for M&S so they can track our shopping habits (and possibly sell on our data).

I don't know why they don't allow us to add points onto it...oh wait, they do that for their credit card. I guess the Sparks card is the 'gateway' card to the credit card.

Same here, just checked it, 'you don't have any offers at the moment.' There's an example of what an offer for free Percy Pigs would look like just to taunt me but I can't use it 🐷

Strangerthanfictions · 02/10/2024 22:36

I constantly get emailed offers but they are intended for European customers and I can't find them on the UK site. Incredibly annoying because they are good

HeidiBlum · 02/10/2024 22:37

@TheFlis Your friend did well!

😂yes, the anticipation of the customer services person has happened to me.
