What is the point of an M&S Sparks card?

It’s starting to really get on my tits. The offers are rubbish and there seems no benefit in scanning it. Am I missing something?

I have one and find it good - not specifically the offers, they're a bit hit and miss for me and mostly I don't bother with them but I get ££ in vouchers every year because I spend on my card and pay it off every month.

It's the only credit card I use for buying stuff. There might be better ones out there for you and what you like.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 02/10/2024 21:47

I missed a £ there.

Topee · 02/10/2024 21:47

I get quite good offers, have had my shopping paid for once and they donate money to charity too.

But this is the credit card isn't it, not the Sparks loyalty card?

GinForBreakfast · 02/10/2024 21:49

Can't be bothered to look at the offers. They seem to specialise in giving me money off stuff I bought the week before.

Cookerconfusion · 02/10/2024 21:50

I totally agree OP, I stopped bothering with mine ages ago. I can’t be faffed with the - very - occasional offer being emailed to you rather than just building up points you can spend on whatever you like.

mogtheexcellent · 02/10/2024 21:51

but...free Percy Pigs...

MrsMitford3 · 02/10/2024 21:53

I agree re Sparks card-it def seems to give me offers on things I have just recently purchased.
Lost it a while back and haven't bothered to replace.
Seems to be for M&S marketing benefit versus mine.

MoneyAndPercentages · 02/10/2024 21:53

I like it because I often expense bits, and they'll email me my receipt. But I haven't gotten an offer I've wanted to use in ages!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 02/10/2024 22:00

Haven't look at it for years, shite.

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 02/10/2024 22:02

I once won £250 on mine, which came in handy for Christmas.

Lovemycat2023 · 02/10/2024 22:04

It used to be good with discounts off jumpers etc at Xmas, but it is rubbish now

TenThousandSpoons · 02/10/2024 22:05

Don’t carry it any more. Not worth the hassle of getting it out of my purse. Wish M&S did a decent points based loyalty card!

larklane17 · 02/10/2024 22:07

It's underwhelming for a loyalty card.

AngelinaFibres · 02/10/2024 22:09

Gave up on the Sparks card years ago. The John Lewis loyalty card used to be good but that's rubbish too now. The only rewards you get are money off spa stuff. We used to get coffee and cake vouchers. I'd meet a friend in the cafe when these were available. Haven't had one for years.

Angelou79 · 02/10/2024 22:11

I once got a free bunch of daffodils nothing since. Lidl is best regular freebies. Both are available as electronic cards now. More annoyed about co-op card used to get penny for every pound spent now like nectar & Tesco with membership offers. All just ways for tracking your spending!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 02/10/2024 22:12

PinkyBlueMe · 02/10/2024 21:48

I use the two in tandem. You can have a Sparks card without their credit card but you wouldn't get the same deals.

AngelinaFibres · 02/10/2024 22:14

Oh I tell a lie , I was once offered a scented candle of my choice when it was my birthday. Scented candles trigger my asthma so don't have them in the house. Wasn't allowed to have anything else. Presumably, since I'm a biological woman, they thought I'd like a women thing which is obviously a scented candle.Um , no.

foreverbasil · 02/10/2024 22:14

The only point seems to be allowing M&S to track your shopping. I seem to get an email survey later in the day to ask about my shopping experience.
The offers really are rubbish. Free bread or Percy Pigs. Neither of which I like and have never bought.

Same. It is not much of an incentive. Free loaf of bread once in years. Not worth the bandwidth on my phone tbh might delete.

IDontHateRainbows · 02/10/2024 22:14

Sparks is shite. They have stopped doing the only good thing, free bags of Percy pigs and free loaves of bread. For the first time ever, I actually wanted to buy something I coincidentally had a sparks discount on, and saved £3 on a pair of pyjama's big woop

EVHead · 02/10/2024 22:15

It’s rubbish. I have the app one in my Wallet and neither I nor the shop assistants can get the bastard to scan at the tills or the click and collect bit.

AngelinaFibres · 02/10/2024 22:17

Percy pigs...not my bag sadly. If they gave bags of mint crumbles away I'd be more interested .

Aussiegold · 02/10/2024 22:17

I've had free perry pigs and perfume. Had 20% off trousers and jeans the other day so saved 15 quid on my last purchase, so quite pleased with that.

Downsizermaybe · 02/10/2024 22:18

I had 20% off clothing on mine last week but I was too skint to buy anything. I do get the occasional freebie on it. Most recent one was a bag of cookies from the bakery counter. I only buy the occasional thing in M&S so I’m inclined to think they give the freebies on the Sparks card to entice me in to the store to buy something. But I’m shameless, I just go in and get the freebie 😆
