What is the point of an M&S Sparks card?

It’s starting to really get on my tits. The offers are rubbish and there seems no benefit in scanning it. Am I missing something?

I've had one years and I don't remember ever getting anything for having it.

Shoobidowhop · 02/10/2024 22:37

Once got emailed a membership to kidsdaysout or something like that after spending £40 and swiping my sparks card, which then got me a decent discount on a holiday I was booking anyway. However it was very convoluted!

but...free Percy Pigs...

When? How?!

wavyleaf · 02/10/2024 22:40

It’s useless - I’ve never had an offer that is relevant to me.

John Lewis is also the same - there are never any relevant offers for me.

amoreoamicizia · 02/10/2024 22:43

I deleted it as I never had any offers I wanted. Free bread is no use to me,
and I try and avoid sweets so free Percy Pigs weren't the best idea even if they're tasty. If I'm giving you my data at least use it to give me a relevant offer!

PorridgeEater · 02/10/2024 22:44

Agree it's rubbish - you just waste your time giving them information but not likely to get anything in return. Wish M & S would introduce a loyalty card worth using.

ThePoshUns · 02/10/2024 22:45

It's rubbish. I buy loads of clothes there not have never had a free bag of Percy pigs, I'd be thrilled to get that!

No33 · 02/10/2024 22:47

I had some trousers in my basket, then suddenly 25% off.

I took that 😄

StarDolphins · 02/10/2024 22:50

I stopped using mine, it’s absolutely not worth it, just rubbish.

The only ones I use are Tesco & Boots.

Goldenbear · 02/10/2024 22:35

Yes, I agree and the Waitrose reward card - pointless! With Waitrose my DH will always moan about it, "so what has come off of this £50 shop for one night's meal, absolutely nothing!"🙄

My best reward card is Boots, for me it quickly adds up and I can buy something like decent hair conditioner.

I quite like the Boots card but it irritates me that you need enough points to cover the whole purchase rather than being able to use your points and pay any extra required. If you’re ordering online your points even need to cover the postage. Mind you, the entire Boots website is a dinosaur.

EerilyDecorated · 02/10/2024 22:53

I got a few freebies (including the flavoured gin liqueur) in last year's 12 Days of Christmas, 20% off Clinique and L'Occitane recently (used both) so it isn't all bad for me. I keep the card in my apple wallet though and tend to forget to check the offers in the app.

TheRainItRaineth · 02/10/2024 22:53

It is, without a doubt, the worst loyalty card out there. The only reason I use it is if I want to scan things myself for speed.

I currently have the following offers:

£1 off a Gastropub ready meal for one. I have never bought one of these.

£1 off an Eat Well meal. No interest in this, sure I have never bought one.

£1 off a £4 spend on M&S cleaning products. Never bought these. I get mine delivered

£1 off M&S tea and coffee. Do you want to guess? No, never bought any.

And even in the mad event that I suddenly, after years of buying the things I do like in M&S, decide to buy ready meals and cleaning products - I have to add these offers to my card before using them. Honestly, I do not have time in my day to check the website/app for these pointless things that I don't like or want.

If they want to offer me some money off delicious fruit, rose veal, pasta, bread, crisps, wine, cheese, sandwiches, snack food or fruit juice I would be right up for it. Because those are the things I actually buy there.

Obimumkinobi · 02/10/2024 22:54

"It's not just any loyalty scheme - it's a shit and pointless loyalty scheme".

Ryeman · 02/10/2024 22:54

Oh my god, I was going to post exactly this! It’s a load of old twoddle. Why do I have to add the offers, why not just automatically add them all and save all the effing faffing? Never any useful offers anyway.

Me and my husband have one each, we both get offers that last a couple of weeks, this week we had 3 the same but 3 each that were different. If we decide to do a shop there and use the offers we make separate piles in the trolley and do 2 transactions at the checkout. Every little helps - oh that’s Tesco!
I find they do 15% off bras and knickers a couple of times a year, so I stock up on these when I get this discount.
I remember when it was first introduced one of the perks was early access to their sales, but that doesn’t happen now.

The best points card is the Boots Advantage, especially if you sign up to their Recycle at Boots where you get 500 bonus points. I haven’t paid for any of my Liz Earle products in cash for a while now, I just use my points to pay. Current points balance is around £87 - kerching.

I find it rubbish and the same thought ran through my mind just the other day.
it takes room in an already card full purse.
I might just get rid of mine for the use it is.

OfMiceandWomen · 02/10/2024 22:58

I’ve just got a free box of biscuits on my Sparks card. I’m pleased with that.

OneLoyalGreyFish · 02/10/2024 22:58

Oh, and we’ve had a couple of decent freebies at Christmas, last year a light up gin and year before a light up tin with biscuits or something in it.

TheRainItRaineth · 02/10/2024 22:59

I like the Sainsbury's Nectar card and Boots. You can save the points up and spend them on things you actually like. And Sainsbury's does good vouchers like triple points on shopping in store or on fuel (which since it's my cheapest local petrol station is great).

I wish I could give you my offers! Although I don't want yours tbh as I am very unlikely to buy handbags, men’s pyjamas or swimwear in M&S. Pleased to see someone has even worse offers than me!!

NetDesMamans1 · 02/10/2024 23:01

I went to their cafe on Monday and at the checkout they gave me one of my hot drinks free because I had an offer for one on my Sparks card.

Dita73 · 02/10/2024 23:03

Waitrose card is the same. You get a couple of coupons on the app once in a while but you can only use two of them in one transaction. Pathetic

Marshmallowtoastie · 02/10/2024 23:05

It’s not a great card, the offers are often a bit shit and you can’t earn points. However I have had Percy pigs quite a few times, bread, tea bags and a box of biscuits and a small bag of chocolate. I also get free cake if I buy a coffee in the café certain times in the week and discount on some baby clothes which is all useful.
