Good point.

I don't think they want to arrest him just yet, there is some kind of protest next week and it may have inflamed things and played into the two tier rubbish, I guess they are waiting for a little while.

Someone on my local Next Door site tried to publicise that. I reported it and it was removed.

Saucery · 22/10/2024 08:09

The NEU are organising a counter protest and laying on bus transport for members who want to attend. I think that's unwise - Tommeh's Twat Army love a ruck.

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2024 08:48

SYL having to wait to be arrested is a good way of dealing with him. He needs the oxygen of outrage.
I am always amazed that any channel gives Oakeshott a platform - she admitted the Cameron pig shagging story was nonsense and she sat on evidence of Russian funding for Brexit backers whilst there was an electorial commission investigation. She has at best a flexible attitude to the truth.

Very pleased to see that David Gauke will be leading a review of sentencing policy.

PandoraSox · 22/10/2024 08:54

Yes, let SYL have his day in the sun at the weekend and then slap the cuffs on him.

I think he was hoping to get arrested as soon as he set foot in the UK. Maximum publicity and donations to his " legal fund".

I missed this from Angela Rayner yesterday

We are repealing the strikes minimum service levels act... the law has failed & has no reason to stay on the statute books... we're also repealing nearly every part of the flawed trade union act of 2016

Thousands more children from England’s poorest households are eating a free school meal because of a new trial scheme.

The pilot project, run by the Fix Our Food research programme and involving dozens of councils, is identifying previously unregistered eligible children and automatically enrolling them.

Whoo, that will put some backs up on MN!

What happened to the other 25 Tories? Have they given up?

That’s depressing.

BIWI · 22/10/2024 09:55

Interesting that neither Badenoch nor Jenrick voted at all.

(That website is quite an eye-opener all around; shows just how few - even Labour - actually did vote)

Angela Rayner: "For the first time ever, we have instructed the low pay commission to take account of the cost of living when setting the minimum wage..."

There’s this from yesterday too.

The absolute refusal to accept/believe that Labour has done anything positive is grating.

On the "irritated about budget coverage" thread I posted about Labour ditching the Tory's PIP plans and I got a very patronising "Have they? What has Labour said that makes you think that?"

So I pointed them to the statement Timms made in a PQ about it. Honestly. I think some of them are absolutely rooting for a budget that says all the disabled and elderly will be only allowed bread and water and will have to live in barns.

It’s predictable. They really want this government to fail although how they think it could have any failure that compares with its predecessor is beyond me.

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/10/2024 11:01

It’s bit like all the handwringing over the 1st 100 days even though in Starmer’s 1st week they hit the ground running and repealed a load of stuff.

If they could hurry up and undo Cleverley’s bizarre attempt to cut down on people immigrating for health & social care work that would be good.

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2024 12:36

Bit inconvenient for certain posters...

NEW: Some really interesting research here by IPPR and @SteveAkehurst at Persuasion UK. Voters say they’d rather have higher debt and higher taxes - even if it means labour breaking manifesto pledges - than public services continuing as they are.

x.com/kiranstacey/status/1848657098072048050?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Firstly, what is it voters will punish and reward this Govt for most?

We set up an experiment showing voters a range of outcomes & trade-offs that might form the basis of the government's first-term in 2029.

We can then see what impact each has on government’s approvals.

Results - TL;DR: public services is the thing swing voters will judge Govt on most closely.

Progress here is rewarded even if it comes with unpopular downsides (higher debt, taxes). Stasis is punished even if it comes with popular upsides.

Reverse dynamic to 2010-2015!

Oh when I raised this yesterday on another thread I ended up being wilfully misinterpreted. Since this was by a poster I no longer wish to engage with I told her to interpret it as she pleased - I don't care. 🙄
The narrative of freezing pensioners huddled over one little gas fire and living on basic food is getting tedious.

DuncinToffee · 22/10/2024 13:12

But PS vat and now IHT Confused

Labour are so mean, stamps feet Wink

I think I know exactly the poster you mean and I no longer engage with them either. I have...standards when it comes to who I debate with🙂
