I need a good crying film

I've just watched A Star Is Born (Bradley Cooper version) and it's made me a bit weepy, I need a good cry to get it out, what shall I watch?

Coincidentally I just found out Kris Kristofferson died a few days ago, which I wasn't expecting to read when googling information about the film I was watching.

Who will love my children!

I second this. Love this film!

Also, if you don't mind subtitles, I recommend life is beautiful and miracle in cell number 7. These both made me cry profusely.

Lorenzos oil had me sobbing as did Shine

Another vote for Shine. That scene where he plays Flight of the Bumblebee in the restaurant.

Dancer in the Dark. I've never cried so hard at a movie in my life. It was literally painful crying.

The Art of Racing in the Rain. I cried my eyes out on a plane watching that.

HappiestSleeping · 01/10/2024 22:03

You don't need a film @Freakydeak just listen to John Denver - Annie's Song. That will do it.

Pudmyboy · 01/10/2024 22:03

Iris: I cried so hard I cried my contact lenses out;
Odd Thomas: the ending, I really didn't see it coming...
Grave of the Fireflies
And: The Snowman
Edited to correct film title

My Sisters Keeper made me bawl my eyes out and I'm not generally emotional over films!

SueSuddio · 01/10/2024 22:07

Bridges of Madison County
Forrest Gump
Shine
For me, any Studio Ghibli film quite frankly

The Iron Giant can write me off for an entire weekend.

Truly Madly Deeply is obviously the best weepy ever made.

pastlives · 01/10/2024 22:13

Titanic gets me every time.

This is extremely left-field, but for any star-trek fans who have lost their father, DS9 ‘The Visitor’ is guaranteed to reduce me to a puddle. Don’t bother if you’re not a trekkie though 😆

Seas164 · 01/10/2024 22:13

Steel Magnolias, never fails to bring forth a sob.
An Affair To Remember with Cary Grant and Debora Kerr
Love Story with Ali McGraw.

Can't fully remember the gist of Watership Down but I do remember it was utterly traumatic, if it's that kid of crying you're after!

Hatchi - it's about a dog. I was an absolute wreck!

About Time

geminiflanagan · 01/10/2024 22:28

About time always gets me, even more so since I became a mother.

And the Notebook! The book more than the film, but the film also does the trick
