Sky News is reporting Iran has launched missiles into Israel. It's very scarey. It should never have got to this escalation. Awful.

Leave therm to it, I say. After each exchange, the other side says they're going to retaliate. So rather than supporting one side or the other or both or neither just let them get on with it over there and don't allow protests from either side over here.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not anti-Semitic or even anti-Israel. But I am anti this: www.instagram.com/reel/DAnjLtTIhyq/?igsh=cm5ydzNucTRsZHNq

You're anti crap propaganda?

I was talking about the Nakba in a list of abuses meted out to the Palestinians. The Palestinians are not responsible for the Jewish people displaced by other Arab countries nor is it a competition.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but it can be argued that the Nakba never stopped and this recent invasion is more of the same. It comes across as an opportunity to raze Gaza to the ground.

I never said it was a competition
Bit it is a fact that Palestinians are not welcomed by their fellow Arabs. I wonder why.

What’s your point though?

If you can't see the point there is no hope for you.

Ticktockk · 02/10/2024 21:12

Oh good lord. If you think it’s okay to bomb the crap out of civilians who have no defence and nowhere to go, you do you. There were choices.
Hamas are wrong, Hezbollah are wrong. The October 7th attacks were atrocities. But these normal, innocent people - schoolchildren, doctors, shopkeepers, university students, teachers, mothers, babies, etc etc etc etc etc. They all had to die for the cause? Really? A country that can use heat sensitive cameras to check how many people are in a precise room, and then precisely target that room. A country that can use pagers to specifically target Hezbollah members. Really? They couldn’t avoid killing all those thousands of people? You really continue to believe the number one objective is to get the hostages back? This isn’t some crazy conspiracy. Yesterday I was watching the BBC live news channel when they asked a member of the Israeli government how they could justify the destruction of Gaza. And he replied that you have to have many civilian casualties. He said it was normal to kill 10 civilians to get to one terrorist.
Those normal people with families and homes and jobs. Who took their kids to soft play and checked on their elderly parents. They have left their bombed out homes to live in tents. They can’t get medication they are ill. They eat vegetables out of cans. They have seen unimaginable death and destruction. But please continue to write clever little things on Mumsnet.

And where are the Israeli military headquarters? Under residential buildings in Tel Aviv.

But at least their whereabouts is common knowledge, and have always been there, during peaceful times. They were not positioned there to use their people as human shields. Unlike Hamas.

Dymaxion · 02/10/2024 21:27

but I believe that if things continue to escalate we will experience more and more dangerous and harmful terrorist attacks here in the UK and in Europe. We are part of this. It's naive to think that because it's miles away that we are safe and we won't get hurt.

@worriedhidinginplainsight I think you are probably right. I imagine security will ramp up around the anniversary of the 7th of October attacks. These potential attacks are futile anyway, you want to change how things work ? Don't upset people by indiscriminately killing their loved ones, get people on board, make them laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, make them cry on your behalf, feel empathy for your cause. That goes for all the players in the game.

There has been ample opportunity for Netanyahu to de-escalate this war. It has gone way beyond the self defence premise, with no care whatsoever for the Palestinian civilians population, obliterating hospitals, schools and denying food and medical aid in, along with persistent land grabbing. Totally inhumane what has happened. Now Israel are attacking Lebanon Syria and Yemen. Netanyahu will not back down because his govt will collapse and his political career will be over, opening the door to charges of fraud and corruption along with war crimes. They have not shown any restraint and I fear that this is only the pre cursor to a much wider middle east conflict. Many ordinary Isrealis are also opposed to his leadership. I'm not a supporter of any terrorist organisation but I do think the seeds are behind sown for the next generation of Hamas/Hezbollah fighters..... And on it goes

You're the one confused. I was making the point that as many Jews were displaced at the same time as Palestinians in 1948.An interesting question arises over the numbers of Palestinian refugees. Why do other Arab countries let them live only in refugee camps? Egypt won't let any refugees from Gaza enter the country.

Edited

Egypt won't let any refugees from Gaza enter the country because they're afraid Israel won't let them return when the war is over, as if Israel should have any say in whether the Palestinians are allowed back into their own land, absolutely disgusting

That is not why Egyptians aren't offering sanctuary. They are worried that terrorists from Gaza will use any such offer to cause problems in Egypt itself. Jordan had this issue many years ago when the PLO set up there.

ThisOldThang · 02/10/2024 22:19

The children of refugees automatically gain full citizenship in their host nation - unless they're Palestinians in Arab countries.

Given how long this has been going on, there should be virtually zero Palestinian refugees in neighbouring countries, but those countries deliberately keep the grievance alive by refusing to provide citizenship and forcing people to live in camps.

The suffering of Palestinian refugees in neighbouring countries is an entirely artificial construct of the Arabs.

There are several reasons. First Egypt doesn't want to be seen to be supporting Israeli ethnic cleansing.

Leaked documents from the Israeli government included plans to forcibly move Palestinians into the Sinai Desert. Something

Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir have openly advocated for in order to make way for Israeli settlers in Gaza.

Israel’s minister for agriculture, Avi Dichter, said, “We are now rolling out the Gaza Nakba,” adding, “Gaza Nakba 2023. That’s how it’ll end.”

A conference was then held in January this year attended by Netanyahu and other members of parliament where moving Palestinians to Egypt was discussed.

Yes, Egypt is also concerned about Hamas on its territory and dragging Egypt into military conflict and becoming a threat to their regime. Egypt has only just managed to clamp down on insurgents in North Sinai. Obviously there's also a danger that millions of refugees could be destabilising.

No, because the raging hypocrisy of the West has long denied nuclear capability to the Muslim/Arab world, for fear they'd actually use it to defends themselves from Western aggression, so there is no chance of this escalating because the West and it's allies wouldn't dare attack anyone capable of fighting back on anything approaching even terms.

Edited

Wow, and you think it would be ok for the mad men that rule most of the Middle East to have nuclear weapons? If they think like you, they’ll just use them and to hell with everyone else! You’re deluded to think they’d just have them as a deterrent!

Errr if course this could easily become WW3. Israel will go after Iran. Russia are strategically allied to Iran. The US, Germany and UK are helping Israel.
Putin would adore an excuse to go with his rhetoric that the British caused all the problems faced by Russia and the ME. (Well, that’s sort of true I guess, but it’s not the fault of the British people).
I’m not saying anyone is about to launch ballistic missiles at us, but we will feel the effects of what is beginning this week.

Not to mention increase of terrorist attacks.
And it is a cruel fact that children often survive in tiny pockets of rubble when their entire adult family has died. So Netanyahu isn’t exactly hunting down Hanas - he’s just creating new recruits. Netanyahu will keep it going to avoid answering how it could have happened or to be toppled. The settler encroachment was already aggressive and now the pretence is over. It was our own racism that thought we could treat the Palestinians like that all those years ago.

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Are you fucking kidding? Do you really think that no mad politicians (men) and no "rough men" needing to do violence in anyone's behalf would not be significantly better?

It's always men who seem utterly unable to solve anything without violence. Always men who show complete disregard for life.

Men should be forbidden from holding any position of power.

Yeah.... Please explain how installing pacifist women in positions of power, in Israel and the West, would work out when bloodthirsty Islamist men are running the countries of the Middle East.

OK. So you think Iran is justified in launching missiles into Israel in support of their (banned terrorist) allies, Hezbollah. Does that mean that America is justified in launching missiles into Iran in support of their allies, Israel?

This man bashing gets a bit tedious, They aren't all Putin and Kim Jong un or whatever his name is. Get a grip.
