Sky News is reporting Iran has launched missiles into Israel. It's very scarey. It should never have got to this escalation. Awful.

Look the history of Palestine and Israel and what led to the current conflict.

Give a specific. We all know conflicts have a timeline.

I am so sick of men making decisions and playing Billy BigBalls and turning the world to shit for women, children and animals.

This, 100% agree.

You responded to this:

I doubt the Palestinian people have fely safe since 1948

Go to an internet search browser, type in "Israel Palestine history 1948" and start from there. There are a lot of newspaper articles on the current conflict and its history.

Any other factors? I mean there is, waiting to see if you mention it!

You'll have to be less vague.

Edited

So basically you don’t have a well thought out response to back up your public opinion. Just google it. Okay thanks 👍

I didn't give an opinion. You asked someone what they meant about 1948 so I suggested you look it up. Now you're just arguing in an empty room. All the best with that.

I don't think a complete WW, but definitely it's snowballing a bit isn't it

In some ways I feel the world has moved on so much now that another WW wouldn’t play out in the same way as 1 and 2. There wouldn’t be a definitive start and end. At some point in the future people will look back (if they exist to be able to ) and see that WW3 started long before anyone realised it had. I feel it would be a slow starter, rage on for longer peaking in various areas then moving on and simmering away, that almost makes it more dangerous than the WW people expect. The next will creep up on us.

Well imagine that I don’t and educate me.

Oh know but you won’t, you just want to self indulge on others history and misery without a reason.

Knowing stuff does not equal 'self indulging' on others misery. It means understanding what causes misery. Or joy. Or history.

Israel is taking advantage of Iran supplying so many munitions to Russia, depleting it's own stocks and ability to attack/defend itself.
There will be a second, and possibly third wave of attacks by Iran, but they don't have the capability for a sustained assault.
The only real influence on Israel was the US, but Biden is outgoing, Trump is senile and desperate for attention, and Harris just wants to get over the line in November.
Benjy has, yet again, turned a crisis to his advantage.
He is the most narcissistic world leader currently in power.

Well good for them, surely?

Fordian · 02/10/2024 15:39

A thing I find weirdest about so many people's 'take' on this conflict is the collective amnesia about where this bout started.

Do you recall Oct 7th? Do you know that Hezbollah started firing rockets at Israel that day?

Iran is using foolish puppet proxies like Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis because it doesn't want normalised relationships with Israel across the ME, such as the ones forming with the UAE and Saudi. Iran is perfectly happy for other peoples' kids to die to this aim.

Without Iran, I believe Gaza would now be an independent sovereign state, living tolerantly along side Israel.

And, what should Israel's response to Oct 7th have been? Why didn't the world rise up to condemn Hamas?

But now would be a good time for the Persians to throw out the Arab theocracy; and for Lebanon to cast out Hezbollah. Plenty of Lebanese have good reason to hate them.

I thought it was Israel who were driving them off their land, restricting their lives and now slaughtering them.

Fordian · 02/10/2024 15:45

@SantaPellegrina to be fair, with a couple of exceptions, where Norway have built a sovereign wealth fund with their oil revenue, much of the Middle East have been diamond-encrusting Lamborghinis.... there is real concern in Qatar that they have lost the ability to work!

Fordian · 02/10/2024 16:12

@candlewhickgreen you'd have to be specific about 'driving them off their land'.

Do you mean the Nakba? Or West Bank settlements? Or the Jews who left what is now Gaza?

Anything that has been done to the Palestinians such as taking their farms, building settlements, making life unbearable and of course the Nakba, to razing their country to the ground, bombing camps, hospitals and schools as well as essential infrastructure. Detaining thousands indefinitely without charge, sexual assault, torture, indiscriminate killing including those trying to reach aid trucks, as well as disease and starvation. The genocidal rhetoric hasn't helped obvs.

Has anyone else had last night algorythm go mental on Instagram by the way?
90% of reels were the "hidden" palestinian reels from afternoon. This morning all went back to my normal cats and korean food.

"and of course the Nakba"

The Nakba being the time that the surrounding Arab nations decided to try and genocide the Jews, but lost their war of aggression?

No no, Israel bad because it has the aggressive audacity to exist in the first place.

No, it's the expulsion of hundreds and thousands of Palestinians and their maltreatment. It's been described as ethnic cleansing just as the current slaughter in Palestine is being described as genocide.

Thousands upon thousands of Jewish people were expelled from their homes in Arab countries in1948. They had lived in harmony with their Arab neighbours for centuries under the Ottoman Empire.

FlappingMadly · 02/10/2024 17:40

Deliberately escalated by Netanyahu. It is scary.

ThisOldThang · 02/10/2024 17:41

Sorry, I should have said the 1st time that the surrounding Arab nations attempted to genocide the Jews.

After Israel massacred civilians in Gaza, bombed Lebanon, Syria, Yemen etc. Important not to start with Iran’s response but rather the Israeli actions which have helped lead us to this dangerous point.
