Half the country seems to be anti Starmer, anti Rayner, anti Labour, so…

If they’re so bad, who’d genuinely do a better job and why has the honeymoon been so short ?
Most of the Tory leadership candidates are guilty of much worse plus the UK is in an absolute state unless you live in Tunbridge Wells or Guildford so logically they really should not be having another turn.
Farage hasn’t got a clue and most of his plans, although popular, in reality are economically unviable and would bankrupt the country.
Leaves Ed Davey and the Lib Dems who like Labour are on the whole untried and untested but relatively untainted.
Any ideas ? Or is this criticism just a SM thing and most folk are willing to give them a chance ?

If they are it's weird as fuck since the last government fucked everyone apart from the super rich

There's way too much criticism of a government barely in power for 3 months - far more likely to be Tory bots or a Russian troll farm

I'm pretty terrified for our world when people can be swayed so easily by this planting of negative stories

Dawevi · 29/09/2024 12:49

I didn't want labour and don't like Starmer. But I don't think there's anyone worthy of running the country right now. I'm politically homeless.

PigeonLady · 29/09/2024 12:52

I think most people thought they (labour) were supposed to be doing the better job.

So they are looking very Tory in their approach.

I think people actually wanted to see a labour gov.

We still haven’t had the proper budget so let’s see. But yes the U.K. is a shitshow agree.

@Dawevi So who runs it if there’s no one else ? Are you grudgingly going to give them a chance and wait and see what they do ?
Who did you want out of interest ?

I can’t understand how the same posters and media moaning about benefit
scroungers are now up in arms about means testing of WFA for example. Surely that’s what the DM and right wingers would want ? Equally not restoring two child benefit payments. It doesn’t make sense. They can’t win with Lefties and they can’t win with the small state thinkers.

Both my aunts keep posting memes on Facebook about Keir Starmer robbing them of their winter fuel allowance. They are both loaded, travel abroad every winter to their Spanish villas for 3 months. But labour has robbed them.

Dbank · 29/09/2024 12:57

I think the criticism on SM is just a reflection that the majority of people didn't vote Labour.

I fear KS is going to be thrown under the bus, and Momentum will take over, which will be followed by a huge swing to the right at the next GE.

Who knows how it will pan out, but is sure as hell isn't going to plan at the moment...

Lenelovich · 29/09/2024 12:57

People moan about the shopping in TW on here. At least they’ve got shops lol. Do they have beggars at literally every junction and traffic lights. Doubt it.

Sorry but according to some on here KS has kicked out all the lefties and the party is essentially Conservative mark 2. It can’t be both logically ?

The fact that that area has a relatively high proportion of affluent people is of no help or consolation to those there who are in poverty. To make matters worse, they're often the "hidden poor" because lots of people think they don't exist - meaning they're less likely to get the help they need.

A person as yet unknown to us.

and why has the honeymoon been so short ?

They flipped the day after the election. Now we see incompetence, arrogance and narcissism. Three ingredients when mixed together are very dangerous - remember the last short honeymoon duo? Not that long ago.

Love to know what the ultimate aim of the Daily mail and express is. So much froth that you can’t get to the real truth.

I feel that the Flowerpot Men had a more coherent view of life than any of the politicians do these days.

And at least I could grasp what they were saying!

pointythings · 29/09/2024 13:02

I think it's the power of a hostile media - the press in the UK is heavily majority right wing. They aren't prepared to give Labour so much as 5 minutes to sort things out - and their readership is lapping it up.

Meadowfinch · 29/09/2024 13:03

Anti-Starmer yes, anti-Rayner, yes. Anti-Labour, no.

They are not the same thing. The fact that the Labour party has somehow chosen a corrupt and rotten leadership does not mean the majority of Labour is bad.

Because means testing the WFA costs so much money it’s stupid. And it’s pissed people off over £500.

They should have done an opt in declaration type thing. Then people would have claimed or not. Most people wouldn’t have bothered who didn’t need to.

The benefits in this country are out of control. I can’t tell you which parts exactly as it’s completely purposefully obscure. But yes you have people living on about a million different schemes. Working tax credit, legacy benefits, UC, pip, child benefit, this that the next thing.

There are people being rinsed dry and some people living the life of Riley and doing fuck all.

Well that's why we end up with someone shit running it, because we have to choose from what's there.
It's not up to me to give them a chance, they are fucking it up so far though aren't they? Starmer sleaze is alive and well.

I didn't want any of them, I voted tactically for local purposes to keep Labour out here.

Agree and I’m disappointed but equally some of the stories are exaggerated.
Haven’t the folk in power traditionally received favours in the form of holidays etc. It’s not new. And would Farage refuse freebies ?

KS managed to massively hack off all of his left wing MPs, and expell all of the left wing LP members, or massively hack them off if he couldn't expell them. So all that's left in the labour party and it's membership are neo liberal capitalists like Starmer.

But actual voters, the public, don't want yet another Blair/Cameron/Thatcher that's why they voted for Labour hoping (desperately and hopelessly) for something else.

After three months, Starmer admitted he's continuing with Tory Austerity, Tory economics and Tory sleaze, despite his manifesto stating the exact opposite.
(Apart from the sleaze part. That wasn't mentioned in the manifesto..)

It's no wonder he's so unpopular. Despite his huge mandate, he's very quickly turned his back on virtually everyone who voted Labour. He already has enough people close by that he's hacked off.
Well, now he has a lot more.

Do you post this on their facebooks or just keep quiet hoping you’re in their wills? With people like your aunts, you have to confront them each and everytime. Thing with bad peope is that they have good relatives who don’t say anything to hold them to account.

My cat would do a better job, but here we are. We've got a mediocre government to go with our mediocre country. Once you're scraping the bottom of the barrel, there's nowhere else to go, so we've ended up with sausage face. There is no one else. Things are exactly as they're supposed to be in our new Idiocracy.

Well said.

I live in a relatively affluent rural town. We have racing stables and stud farms. We also have a tent city hidden away where it doesn't embarrass the town council.

The rural poor need help just as much as the urban poor. Living somewhere pretty doesn't fill their bellies or keep their DCs warm.
