What would your dream house include?

In the absence of staff, an emancipated but diligent house elf, giant leap forwards in robotic technology, mine would be a side entrance into a boot room which massive abouts of spaces for sports shoe & bag storage and underfloor heating so that kit abandoned on the floor magically dries. Importantly, this would be a separate entrance to the front door so that you're not constantly risking breaking your neck or apologising to visitors,
delivery drivers etc for the dump that is your entrance hall. The fact that the gorgeously proportioned entrance hall was one of the selling points and the beautiful tiles extortionate makes this situation particularly galling!

A swimming pool. Indoor. With a sauna and jacuzzi too. Basically my own spa!

Plus a huge fancy laundry room.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 29/09/2024 09:30

Lots of light. Views of the sea. No bloody neighbours whose kids play a musical instrument very badly or have yapping dogs. In fact, no neighbours for at least a kilometre.

menopausalmare · 29/09/2024 09:34

Views onto a beautiful garden and green space beyond. And, boringly, lots of space to dry wet clothes and towels.

cannaethink · 29/09/2024 09:56

Definitely a boot room. It would have a shower in there too so if I came in filthy, muddy or sandy I could get it all off before going in the house.

LissaGa · 29/09/2024 10:03

I live in my dream house on the North Wales coast with a view of the sea from every room.

We downsized when our children all left home but when they were younger, my dream house would have had a separate utility room, a boot room, a basement playroom and a self cleaning kitchen 💖

I’d like a gym and indoor pool. A tennis court.

I’ve loved split level houses since I was a child when two of my schoolfriends lived side by side in split level houses on a hill. I thought it was awesome that you could walk into the house and go upstairs or downstairs from the hall!

ViciousCurrentBun · 29/09/2024 10:11

Indoor swimming pool and with a library with a window seat overlooking a lake with dramatic hills in the distance.

Karmaisac4t · 29/09/2024 10:13

A bath that’s big enough so the water can cover my boobs and my knees at the same time. I’d also like a back garden big enough to keep chickens, duck and Pygmy goats.

sueelleker · 29/09/2024 10:15

Library/study, a utility room, and a huge walk-in pantry.

hazandduck · 29/09/2024 10:15

Definitely indoor swimming pool. Stables, paddock and sand school. And a lovely horse or two to go with it 😍 Oh and a big library with ladders, Beauty and the Beast style!

If I have stables and a pool I’m going to assume I get a decent utility room too!

Frowningprovidence · 29/09/2024 10:21

Yes to big boot room and a laundry room

I also fancy a big orangery that has beautiful planting, underfloor heating and a dining table. Not a conservatory but a proper one like at Kensington Palace.

Ariela · 29/09/2024 10:23

@hazandduck indoor sand school, surely?

AnnaMagnani · 29/09/2024 10:24

A wine train.

I once saw pics of one of those homes for billionaires and it had a massive wine cellar with a little train to take your wine up from the cellar.

Since then, I've felt every house should have one.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 29/09/2024 10:27

An enormous heated and shaded conservatory that is filled with plants. Much bigger than the house. Really only need kitchen, bathroom and bedroom to the side, can be with the plants all day.

hazandduck · 29/09/2024 10:27

Oh @Ariela now you’re talking 😁

NorthWestWise · 29/09/2024 10:31

A huge laundry tool with at least 2 washing machines and a big thing on the ceiling to pull down and hang to washing.

A huge hallway so my teenagers don’t clash in the mornings getting out to go to school.

An indoor pool, 25m, so my teenage boy who is embarrassed about his body can go swimming every day.

Tooty78 · 29/09/2024 10:32

I remember reading the wife of an American t.v. mogul had a gift wrapping room in their mansion.

In that vein I would have a travel packing room, somewhere to keep the suitcases permanently and not have to hoik them out of the loft every time.
A great big worktop for folding and putting the clothes into piles, and some of the folding stools for suitcases that the hotels have.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 29/09/2024 10:50

Level access, overhead tracking throughout, a rise and lower bath in the bathroom and a lightroom with a therapy space for my little boy. Outside I would love a sensory garden and a hard standing for his van so I don't have to fight the bloody gravel driveway like I do now. Wheelchairs and gravel do not mix.

Wigtopia · 29/09/2024 10:51

Backing on to forest, a sauna, a laundry room to shut away all the drying clothes out of sight, big windows on the side on the house that faces the forest 😃

Blarn · 29/09/2024 10:55

At the moment I'd take enough storage and three bedrooms!

But I'd love a laundry room with a sink for soaking and stain removal and space for airers. A larder. A room that is snug with a couple of sofas but no tv. Not a library as I like books in every room but a second living room I suppose. A garden which is dark so we can actually use the telescope I bought dh years ago.

I have a theory that no hallway is large enough for children to not get in the way in the morning!

A mud room, a laundry room and a room you can put all your crap in.

At least one walk in wardrobe with a dressing table for my make up and a full length mirror. Bathrooms with windows. Underfloor heating- such a luxury. A large range style cooker and a big kitchen island. A cosy den/family room with a stove for watching movies.

lljkk · 29/09/2024 11:54

Year round pleasant weather, pleasant neighbours, low maintenance, nice cycle routes to places I want to go.

RubyGuide · 29/09/2024 11:57

Makeup/getting ready room with a big vanity area. Walk in dressing room. High ceilings, view of the ocean and lots of natural light. At home gym with a sauna and swimming pool!

Yes all this!
and a water softener.
And a boot room which I found out about on one of the “what real posh people do” threads on here
a breakfast bar in a huge kitchen but also a dining room
And some sort of Uber catio
garage for bikes
Built in wardrobes
a music room
Gallery walls
a driveway of my very own with space for three cars
And an upstairs!
