What's on your coffee table?

I find these types of threads really interesting! A coffee table is, to me, a really "grown up" piece of furniture. Felt like my house was more of a home when I got one. My living room is probably too small for one really, at least one the size I have, but I love it and find it immensely useful for storage. I got it for about £20 at a second hand furniture place.

On mine I have 4 plants, a candle, a bowl with bits of wood, pine cones etc that we have picked up on walks, 4 coasters, an (empty) small vase, an (empty) decorative plant pot in the shape of a bum, TV remote, my glasses case, a hairband, decorative cauldron and pen pot. Some of those things should not be there but I probably won't get round to tidying it yet. I feel like it's a bit cluttered, even without the things that shouldn't be there.

Tell me about your coffee table!

Depends on the time of day here - at various times through the day... empty, TV remotes and glasses of wine, kids school bags (dumped), things I need to sew/mend, cuppa and biscuits/toast, whatever book I'm trying to read, mobile phones and glasses, work laptop, occasionally a naughty spaniel... it's functional, not decorative but ever-evolving!

Glasses case, remote controls, Xbox controller and a gin and tonic.

Remotes, wine glass, coasters, diary, toy phone, candle.

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 28/09/2024 20:49

Currently a tube of Pringles, the paper, a glass of water, a set of coasters and a bowl that has a book and the remotes in.

Usually, the bowl with the book and remotes in and the coasters. The bowl is on a placement as I don't want to scratch either the table or bowl. Occasionally the cat takes up residence on it too.

A pile of coffee tale books.
3 plants (my white orchid because she's flowering, my favourite African violet in a big bowl, and a pretty little miniature white anthurium).
A newspaper
A university prospectus
A pen
A board game
A speeding fine

I really need to tidy up.

Arafon · 28/09/2024 20:58

mitogoshigg · 28/09/2024 21:00

Well I'm not the tidiest of people and nor is dp. Currently a glass of water, 3 remote controls, 2 of my books, one of his, a few magazines from his societies, something on aircraft, a guide book, a leaflet for a new window cleaner, a pen, pad of paper, a funeral order of service, 4 coasters and a heat proof mat - all piled up of course it's a normal sized one

mitogoshigg · 28/09/2024 21:01

Oneblindmouse · 28/09/2024 21:02

RaininSummer · 28/09/2024 21:18

Hmm mine is a table of shame which needs good tidy and polish tomorrow. Current smothered by... A bottle of fancy alcohol which has gone all weird so not for drinking as planned, a glass for the not happening boozy drink, an empty coffee mug, a box of tissues, a dead hand cream with top cut off, a dog brush, dog snacks, pot of crochet hooks, scissors, two remotes, emery board and nail polish, random papers to be thrown, tape measure, box of craft needles and bits, small balls of wool, completed crochet dishcloth, torch, four pairs of glasses, half a pack of crisps and bottle of beer. Four coasters. Oh my. We are untidy.

ObieJoyful · 28/09/2024 21:20

Half a bruised foot; a plant; a smelly candle; a glass of wine; DIL’s laptop, nail scissors, and small emery board; a folded baby blanket, and six (???) remotes!

This thread prompted me to get off my arse and tidy and polish the coffee table. It looks lovely now.

Arafon · 29/09/2024 07:34

Oh dear @ObieJoyful , that looks painful and also a bit swollen, what did you do.

Well, you see that moose-type head on the wall? I dusted it and it fell on my foot.

Don’t dust- it’s a dangerous sport!! 😁

Squidwitch · 03/10/2024 09:24

It's autumnal moving into Halloween, so handmade pumpkin coasters, a dog that I bought while buying some ebay furniture, and a dusty display box

Our coffee table is large and square. On it is a large dark, wooden tray (old stylist trick) and on the tray are: a St Eval candle 'Winter Thyme' in a brass holder bought in Marrakesh, a small lidded brass box holds matches for the candle, a little stack of seasonally appropriate 'pretty' books (yes, I really did just write that), and a beautiful glass paperweight in shadess of gold & amber atop the books.

This is the coffee table's Autumnal configuration, it will change again for Winter.
