What's on your coffee table?

I find these types of threads really interesting! A coffee table is, to me, a really "grown up" piece of furniture. Felt like my house was more of a home when I got one. My living room is probably too small for one really, at least one the size I have, but I love it and find it immensely useful for storage. I got it for about £20 at a second hand furniture place.

On mine I have 4 plants, a candle, a bowl with bits of wood, pine cones etc that we have picked up on walks, 4 coasters, an (empty) small vase, an (empty) decorative plant pot in the shape of a bum, TV remote, my glasses case, a hairband, decorative cauldron and pen pot. Some of those things should not be there but I probably won't get round to tidying it yet. I feel like it's a bit cluttered, even without the things that shouldn't be there.

Tell me about your coffee table!

Mine is quite large, dark wood with three drawers.
On it is a fairly small family photo in a steel frame, an Alessi lily incense burner (love it) and several Andalucian tiles as coasters.
Another one with cat envy!

bananamum13 · 28/09/2024 16:06

Coasters, a candle & box of tissues!

CalmConfident · 28/09/2024 16:06

Autumn patterned table runner, 2 hurricane vases with mustardy colour fat candles, half drunk bottle oh water, glasses cleaning cloth, random wire / connector (aux cable? )

And a bowl of apples 🍎

chisanunian · 28/09/2024 16:10

A fruit bowl + fruit
Two coasters
A reed diffuser in its box that doesn't belong there
It usually has some DH random crap, pens etc on there, but not at the moment

rockingbird · 28/09/2024 16:30

I chance be online shopping for things to jazz up my coffee table. 😆

@Justonedayatatime11 that is a very gorgeous cat, what a magnificent beastie! I have cat envy!

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 28/09/2024 16:40

This is an enjoyable thread. I especially like the magnificat and the peeping puppy. (has he started chewing the table legs yet?)

Mine has a glass plate wot I made (cut, fused, slumped) myself, a copy of the Swiss review that has been on there for ages waiting for me to flip through it, and a sodastream gas cartridge, wrapped in cardboard and duct tape waiting for me to arrange an InPost locker to send it back. Also, the skirting board could do with being wiped with a damp cloth.

I don't have a coffee table anymore, I apparently now have an alter onto which my family leave random offerings to invoke some sort of servitude & remind me of their dependency on me to organize their lives

avocadotofu · 28/09/2024 17:04

My son's school reading books and his piano lesson things.

YoureRockingTheBoat · 28/09/2024 17:21

Mine is huge. It is mentally divided into six sections. Four have piles of coffee table books, one has a dish printed with a map of a local town in it, and one is kept clear so I can put a tray down.

JustToBeMe · 28/09/2024 17:31

I have always thought that coffee tables are something that sit in the middle of the lounge, for people on various arm chairs/sofas, settees to put coffee cups etc on?

So nothing, because I don't have one 😆
I have "tables" at the end of my sofas which have lamps on, and to put cups/mugs and so on instead.

The cat! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Wow, is she/he a junior Leopard! Beautiful.

I have a candle holder teen DD made, very talented girl! Then plant pot that did have a plant in but now has garden shears as the back door is in the lounge and I was using them in the backyard on some shrubbery, magnetic darts and weirdly I tiny wooden elf with a bell that was part of a Christmas decoration last year 😬. A tile that my MIL brought back from Italy for us, just decorative.

SylvesterandTweetyPie · 28/09/2024 17:35

@stealthsquirrelnutkin Table legs are untouched. Same cannot be said for my slippers.

Not Garden shears😂 Secateurs!

I have never had a coffee table. It would just get in the way, and collect piles of junk. And dust.

Ginmonkeyagain · 28/09/2024 17:42

On top - four coasters, two scented tea lifhra in glass holders, the TV remotes, and a large art deco style chrome fruit basket full of apples and satsumas.

Undernath - two library books, a paperback copy of Slow Horsers, a souvenir Chelsea Football Club book, a leaflet from a art show in Peckham, a Garmin charger and a hard back notebook Mr Monkey likes to keep to hand to fill with notes, lists, magazine cuttings and receipts as the mood takes him.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 28/09/2024 17:59

Fruit bowl full of fruit and assorted pieces of junk, pile of financial stuff I need to file, random bottle of olive oil, headphones, old magazines on their way to the bin, glasses, another pair of headphones, bowl of cast silver and bits that need cleaning... it's a mess

notnorman · 28/09/2024 18:10

Nothing

TrickyD · 28/09/2024 18:21

Some magazines, pills, DH’s glasses, Kindle, Cuba Libra.
Table £6 from auction 20 years ago.

What's on your coffee table?
IBegYourBiggestPardon · 28/09/2024 18:32

A TV the sky hub box and 3-4 candles

AutumnLeeeeves · 28/09/2024 18:51

Coffee table one - an iPad, a belt, a light up spinny toy thing from the circus, a bill from nursery and lots of "pictures" painted by DD brought home from nursery.

Coffee table two - a wooden fruit bowl from Sri Lanka, two books and a bible, a succulent, an air plant and a tiny brass pig ornament.

Coffee table two represents who I aspire to be...coffee table one is more reflective of reality Blush

Sortalike · 28/09/2024 19:05

Usually a wicker tray with a candle and a flower arrangement, then the remote controls.

At the moment a load of junk which will be sorted tomorrow. Too knackered to do it this evening.

The cat! 🤦🏻‍♀️

That is the most beautiful cat I've ever seen, and he or she clearly knows it 😻

P.S. whoever's butt is photo bombing the front of the picture is, of course, beautiful too.
