Bought a litre of navy paint for the front door yesterday, had to get it mixed to match the garage door, £44😮

Lampshades! I'm trying to find a replacement for one that fell apart recently. £25 for the most boring beige bit of wire and paper faux linen. Anything even vaguely interesting starts at about £45. Anything I actually like starts at £70.

You can buy a kit on Amazon and make your own. You'll just need some fabric. The kit instructions are pretty easy to follow.

Neveranynamesleft · 26/09/2024 06:53

@Alicana
I wouldn't take any money for that. I was just pointing out that considering the distance our letters go then I dont mind paying the price of the stamp.
No, I dont work for royal mail 😀

Hotel rooms, even in supposedly 'budget' hotels and despite maintenance and cleaning standards getting worse every year.

Dominoes - £24 for a large pizza these days. Then they always have them half price. Just sell them at the discounted price 🤷‍♀️

Agree with lampshades, I need some to match some table lamps I have and I'm looking at 50 quid. Bloody ridiculous.

You can get the little bottles of vit c, a & d from some children’s centres. Mine sells it for £2 a bottle and it lasts for 2-3 months. Maybe see if you have one near by and if they offer?

£1.80.

Snacks and drinks from vending machines. Vending machines ought to have far lower overheads than shops - a staff member is rarely present and the machines’ square footage is tiny. Customers who use them run the small but significant risk of losing their money. Dozens of customers have been killed by vending machines after trying to rock or tip them, possibly because the bloody machine had just stolen their money.

Yet a chocolate bar from a vending machine costs far more than one from a shop. Why?

Because they are in places like A&E or train stations where people literally have no other options, so because they can basically.

The vending machines at my old school in the 90s was soooo cheap, subsidised I suppose.

Alectoishome · 26/09/2024 08:06

Anyone looked at the price of an organic chicken lately?

Mybusyday · 26/09/2024 08:23

Lush has gone right up. It used to be a payday treat, it's not even that anymore. Also Hotel Chocolat. Didn't it used to be 3 for £10? 🤔

MugPlate · 26/09/2024 09:07

GoldenLegend · 25/09/2024 22:52

TBH, how many of those do you need to buy in a month, though?

The question wasn’t about “in a month.”

But congrats on your doodle 😂

If you have a b&m/home bargains close by, they have a significantly cheaper generic brand. I always pick up a pack when I'm in there as DH always forgets to put in his prescription until he's totally run out. They aren't quite as effective but work in a pinch.

I get mine from b&m or savers, but they are still £3.99 for 7.

EngineEngineNumber9 · 26/09/2024 09:09

Doc Martens - a quarter of the quality for four times the price compared to the 90s 🫠

Ineffable23 · 25/09/2024 22:43

Have you told the doctor you can't afford it?

If you have reflux it will erode the oesophageal cells so you should push them to prescribe and explain you're having to go without it because you can't afford it. I would expect them to prescribe in those circumstances.

I'll mention it next time I have an appointment, but the last time I told them they really weren't bothered.

Comedycook · 26/09/2024 09:16

TeamPolin · 25/09/2024 21:48

Glasses frames. It's just moulded plastic. Factories have found ways of mass producing plastic tut in every conceivable shape and selling it in Poundland for a few quid. But plastic glasses frames have a £100 price tag....

Yes I've always thought this. They probably cost pennies to make...agree..it's moulded plastic with two tiny hinges.

Try a different doctor and if its still a problem ask what their criteria are. For regular problem reflux I know several people who have it prescribed for exactly the reasons PP described - not treating can cause longer term problems. It should also be monitored.
