So for tv show:

When the Street Lights Go On.
Really good and equally as sad.

Films …. Maybe Creep 2004, I just rewatched it all these years later. But maybe it’s not as obscure as I think.

Bubba Ho-Tep. "It stars Bruce Campbell as Sebastian Haff, a man residing in a nursing home who claims to be the real Elvis Presley. The film also stars Ossie Davis as Jack, a black man who claims to be John F Kennedy, explaining that he was patched up after the assassination, dyed black, and abandoned." They team up to fight a re-animated mummy that is preying on the nursing home residents. It's funny and wild and sad.

Watt the Devil.

Last time I mentioned Ultraviolet here I was met with absolute silence.

One of the greatest TV series of all time.

I remember that!

Children of a Lesser god

Really?! I don't know anyone who hasn't seen it!

MrsALambert · 17/09/2024 20:11

Crapston Villas. Was on channel four at about midnight. Very odd

The Happy Apple

I saw that on stage, is it the one about the woman who is completely average and is plucked out of the typing pool by an advertising executive to help him pitch his sales?

DH and I were just remembering this this evening! If someone says 'Tuesday' we still say 'Shut up, Vince'...

Tell a lie - that was 'Rex the Runt'... (a spin-off?)

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 17/09/2024 20:16

Brimstone (1998) supernatural thriller crime drama

Moonlight (2007) Vampire drama
Blood Ties (2007) similar

Tru Calling (2003) premonition based drama

Reaper (2007) Ray Wise as the Devil comedy.

Loved Third Watch, not surprised to find many of them (actors) in Grey's Anatomy .. maybe a little surprised to find Bosco (Jason Wiles) in Criminal Minds 🤣

Morgan's Boy - 1980's fictional TV series about a Welsh farmer struggling to keep his farm while his nephew from Manchester - a troubled boy - is sent to stay with him. A young Gary Oldman has a part.

A Month in the Country - 1987 film - Natasha Richardson, Colin Firth and Kenneth Branagh. A WW1 veteran with PTSD finds archaelogical work and becomes attracted to the vicar's wife. The apple scene is particularly good. I have an original DVD still in its wrapper.

Another Earth - 2010 film - Brit Marling. Budget about $30,000. Great storyline about a parallel Earth appearing next to our Earth where we all have another one of us. Great conclusion. No expensive special effects or CGI - just shows how you can create suspense with very little equipment.

The Field - A big story about a small field in Ireland and how land creates rivalries in a small community that crosses generations. Richard Harris, John Hurt, Sean Bean, Frances Tomelty and Tom Berenger as a US businessman who wants to buy the field.

Children of a Lesser god

Wasn't that an Oscar winner for Marlee Matlin?

RuggedHairyTortoise · 17/09/2024 20:18

Oh Brimstone!

I loved that and wanted to call my first born Ezekiel.

I was literally just coming onto the thread to say this

The funniest thing I've seen. The Chris Kamala episode in particular with Ellie White.

Another from me is the Oldest Rookie. US cop series. No one else seems to remember it

That’s right. The tv series starred Lesley Ash.

Needmorelego · 17/09/2024 20:20

@FoxtrotOscarKindaDay Bosco from Third Watch was in a Bon Jovi music video before he was in Third Watch.
In the video he has very very long flowing hair.
I used to think he looked very dreamy with that hair.
Edit : it's the song Always. I just looked at images from it. That hair was terrible. Memory ruined 😭

Toughmonkeys · 17/09/2024 20:21

I loved Moonlight, I have it on dvd. Was so disappointed it was cancelled.

redtrain123 · 17/09/2024 20:21

Apologies, I was wrong about Children if a Lesser God.

Newterm · 17/09/2024 20:21

Party Party. Film in the eighties. Really funny

TeamPolin · 17/09/2024 20:22

@Latenightreader was just coming on to say Goodbye Lenin - such a beautiful film....

Beanie12345 · 17/09/2024 20:23

The last supper 1995 or Mask 1985. Not totally obscure but let see….

GrouchyKiwi · 17/09/2024 20:25

DH and I also loved Moonlight. Sophia Myles is a fabulous actress and should be in many more things.

OMG yes. Loved it

TV The Onedin Line with the wonderful Anne Stallybrass.

Film Silent Running all botanical life on Earth is extinct, but the remnants are preserved in a greenhouse on a space ship, lovingly cared for by a fanatic.

A Month in the Country....the book by J L Carr that the film is based on is a good read.
