So for tv show:

When the Street Lights Go On.
Really good and equally as sad.

Films …. Maybe Creep 2004, I just rewatched it all these years later. But maybe it’s not as obscure as I think.

@GrouchyKiwi yay! I think he did quite a bit but I only saw him in one episode of Body of Proof.

@peachese no but there’s a film with the same name, that might be it?

Liked Hacks. Wondered why Third Watch was so short lived - now I know!

I never used to have time to watch TV but now those light hearted US ensemble shows are gone. Like the ones I mentioned I mean. Everything is either sinister or edgy comedy now, nothing that’s just innocent fun.

Targets (Peter Bogdanovich - 1968)

Stella Street was hilarious, only one of these that I've heard of.

The Americans was a great TV series that no one I know has ever watched.

Yes, and Yes - I LOVED The Americans, it was a stunning series!

redtrain123 · 17/09/2024 19:58

The Great Outdoors

  • only had a few episodes, and started Ruth Jones, about a group of ramblers. I really liked it.

The Happy Apple

redtrain123 · 17/09/2024 19:59

Children of a Lesser god

The fear of 13, watched it yesterday, had never heard of it before then and I watch a LOT of documentaries

The Lost Room - a miniseries with Peter Krause and Juliana Marguiles.

Blarn · 17/09/2024 20:00

Bojack Horseman. Its excellent and on Netflix, don't be put off by the fat it's a cartoon!

Films, possibly Pi. Saw it on C4 once, absolutely mental.

Latenightreader · 17/09/2024 20:01

I love Saved! (Jena Malone, Macaulay Culkin). Pregnant teenager at a very Christian high school.

Goodbye Lenin - siblings in East Germany need to hide the fall of the Berlin Wall from their ill and very Communist mother. Really funny but also moving in places.

Compash · 17/09/2024 20:01

Gentlemen Broncos is a wonderfully offbeat comedy, if you want to watch something that a lot of people won't like or won't get... but it has Jemaine Clement, Sam Rockwell and Jennifer Coolidge - what's not to like?

Needmorelego · 17/09/2024 20:01

@colouringindoors I don't think it is shown anywhere. I've looked but can never find it. The first 2 seasons you can probably still get the DVDs.

Comedycook · 17/09/2024 20:02

Sitting Pretty....?

It was a BBC sitcom from the early 1990s

Aaron95 · 17/09/2024 20:02

Lost.

Not the show about the people marooned on an island. Before that there was a reality show where people were taken to an unknown place in Europe and then had figure out where they were before making their way back to London with only a tiny amount of money.

Compash · 17/09/2024 20:03

I loved Bojack Horsemen, @Blarn !

Another movie: The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. If you love John Lithgow going over the top, it has all you want...

Bojack - especially once you're halfway through the first season - is stunning writing. And it's so funny!

Needmorelego · 17/09/2024 20:03

@AlwaysFoldingWashing I remember Oliver Beene. I don't remember it having more than about a dozen episodes though 😂

Bojack is amazing. I thought it was quite well known but maybe not, think some people get put off with it being a cartoon about a horse.

Kinvig- no one has ever heard of it. Thought I'd made it up but just googled it and low and behold it did exist. I was way to young to watch that

Creep 2004 was brilliant. I rewatched it a couple of months ago. My film that is obscure is Guinea Pig: Flowers of Flesh and Blood. Gory as fuck Japanese horror. Excellent 👌

Deadringer · 17/09/2024 20:07

Down by law.

Devilsmommy · 17/09/2024 20:07

@Blarn BoJack Horseman was brilliant

@Latenightreader , yes, I've seen Goodbye Lenin, and agree with you.

Grandisson, anyone? Historical film, set in Heidelberg, based on a true story. Fantastic location, swash-buckling, romance, heart-wrenching in places. It's a joint French-German production, filmed in French (which was odd, as it's set in Germany!). A bit niche I suppose, given that it came out in 1979. Would love to see it again.
