So for tv show:

When the Street Lights Go On.
Really good and equally as sad.

Films …. Maybe Creep 2004, I just rewatched it all these years later. But maybe it’s not as obscure as I think.

Hotel Babylon.

winewolfhowls · 21/09/2024 21:36

Les revenants, people come back from the dead mysteriously. Very atmospheric and sinister.

Kingdom, or kingdom hospital. Based on a Stephen King story I think. Supernatural shenegans in a hospital, a giant sloth I think, and a headless body running around to where's your head at by basement jaxx. NOONE has seen this one.

"Strange" about 20 years ago. Series about a demon hunting ex-priest. There should have been more series but it was cancelled. The banshee episode has stayed in my memory ever since.

I think I remember this!

I have. I have it on dvd. With Mary and Antibus cos she couldn’t say Anubis

winewolfhowls · 21/09/2024 21:45

Ooh I thought of a few more

The Sculptress I think, about a murderer and Pauline Quirk was amazing in it.

And another one that was a dramatisation of a real murderer who dissolved the bodies in acid starring Martin Clunes. Also excellent.

The Sculptress was superb. Really well acted. Worth watching.

Without Prejudice with Lisa Tarbuck.

Loved it and no one else seems to have heard if it

Yup! I make sure I have all my favourites on dvd cos you can’t always get them on streaming

RogerRabbit37 · 21/09/2024 22:56

Born Kicking.

herecomesautumn · 21/09/2024 22:58

Thought of another that no one I know has heard of

Cold Case. A breathtakingly beautiful detective called Lily Rush and at the end of each episode you would see the dead person walking away at peace as their murder was solved

I loved it

Needmorelego · 21/09/2024 23:05

@herecomesautumn I loved Cold Case.
It still pops up every so often on various Freeview channels.

I must try and find it again

Amelanchier · 21/09/2024 23:36

I liked Hotel Babylon.

My suggestion is The New Shmoo. It was a cartoon I only dimly remember. I don't think I made it up.

I remember watching that!

Can you remember what channel it was on?

Needmorelego · 22/09/2024 10:21

@diddl I think Cold Case was Sky One originally but now it seems to hop around various Freeview channels randomly.
It apparently has issues with copyright over some of the music which is why you can't get it on DVD in the UK.

Hotel Babylon.

Is that the one with Dexter Fletcher, a sort BBC 8pm drama? I enjoyed that, I think it was only one for a short while

DreamW3aver · 22/09/2024 13:13

I've been reminded of one by a user name I say on another thread, does anyone. remember Malice Aforethought?

Yes, with Hywel Bennett in. Very good.

diddl · 22/09/2024 16:28

Hywel Bennett!

I (vaguely) remember a film he was in called "The Family Way" with Hayley Mills.

A "kitchen sink" drama!

Soubriquet · 22/09/2024 16:34

Still haven’t seen anyone mention Hex.. it’s this one if people are confused

Hotel Babylon.

Thus was huge - must-see tv at the time

AlecTrevelyan006 · 24/09/2024 08:43

The Monocled Mutineer - 1986 drama loosely based on the true story of a British army mutiny during WWI. Written by Alan Bleasdale and starring Paul McGann, the BBC got into a lot of hot water with the media and government because of its anti establishment story line. As a result its very rarely shown on tv, in fact I think it’s only been repeated once about 10 years ago.

here’s the BBC trailer
